Chapter 336 Help Her Cool Down

Dean rubbed his forehead. "Who wouldn't know? Elizabeth meeting you must mean there's a new patient needing a treatment plan. That jerk, what's he even suspicious about?"

Louis pulled out his phone. "I'll call him."

The call connected.

"Michael, what's your deal?"

Michael, hearing Louis's voice, finally found an outlet for his pent-up frustration. "Louis! You have the nerve to call me! Do you even know that Elizabeth is carrying my child?"

Louis was equally agitated. "Michael, you know she's pregnant with your child, yet you still upset her? Don't you know that a pregnant woman's mood swings can affect the baby?"

Michael's voice was hoarse with anger. "So because of the baby, I'm supposed to just put up with you two sneaking around and making a fool out of me? Where does that leave me?"

Louis spoke firmly. "Michael, you need to wait until Elizabeth wakes up and apologize to her sincerely!"

"First, Elizabeth has never betrayed you. Second, Elizabeth is not your wife, nor your property. She is an independent person with the freedom to have friends."

"Lastly, we were in the office working on a treatment plan for a patient. She was worried about her stamina during late pregnancy surgery and sought my advice. I'll be assisting her during the surgery, just in case."

Michael was stunned. He hadn't expected the truth to be like this.

Why couldn't she just tell him clearly?

Oh right, she was afraid he'd get angry and blame her for not considering the baby.

Because she knew he would stop her.

Louis spoke earnestly. "Michael, as the mother of your child, Elizabeth has the right to choose her own life. She's a businesswoman and a doctor. She can't just stand by and do nothing when she can help a patient."

Michael thought back. Was it out of compassion that she operated on Carter back then?

Not because she liked Carter?

And what about Eloise?

Did she refuse to treat Eloise just because she disliked him?

"Louis, you say she has a doctor's compassion, but what about Eloise? Did her compassion disappear then?"

Louis was momentarily speechless. After a pause, he said, "Michael, that's a personal matter between you and Elizabeth. I believe she'll tell you everything one day. But it can't come from me."

"Just know that she cares deeply about your child. Otherwise, she wouldn't have told me not to give her any medication without her consent. If she didn't care about you, why would she do that? I think once you calm down and think it over, you'll understand her reasons."

Louis handed Dean a box of cooling patches and told him to take Elizabeth home. Maybe some rest would help her recovery.

Dean took Elizabeth back to Whispering Pines Estates. At the entrance, he saw Michael's Cullinan.

Dean carried Elizabeth out of the car and saw Michael standing at the door. He shook his head. "I don't know what you two are fighting about."

Michael took Elizabeth from Dean and carried her upstairs.

Her skin was burning hot, her temperature alarmingly high.

He laid her on the bed, feeling deeply guilty. If he hadn't confronted her, she wouldn't have run out into the rain and gotten sick.

Dean handed him the cooling patches. "Louis said no medication, so use these to bring her fever down. Or do you have another way?"

Michael's voice was hoarse. "Leave it to me. You go take care of the kids."

Dean closed the door behind him as he left.

Nolan stood at the door. "Dean, what's wrong with Mom? Why is that jerk here?"

Dean cleared his throat. "Nolan, your mom has a fever. Michael's here to take care of her."

Nolan frowned. "Mom doesn't need his care! We can take care of her!"

Dean hugged him and led him downstairs. "Michael's making amends. Let him. Otherwise, he won't stop."

Nolan glanced back, still worried.

Dean reassured him. "Don't worry, Nolan. Michael will take good care of her."

Nolan reluctantly followed him down the stairs.

In the bedroom, Michael touched Elizabeth's forehead, feeling the intense heat.

He thought for a moment, then undressed her and put her in a light nightgown, covering her with a blanket. Then he stripped off his own clothes.

He walked naked into the shower and turned on the cold water.

The icy water made him shiver. Once he was thoroughly chilled, he dried off quickly and lay down next to Elizabeth, holding her close.

Elizabeth, feeling like she was burning up, instinctively moved towards the coolness, even letting out a few contented sighs.

Michael held her until he felt his body warming up, then he got up, showered in cold water again, dried off, and returned to her side.

He repeated this cycle over and over. Eventually, Elizabeth's fever broke.

Michael, exhausted, fell asleep holding her.

Elizabeth, feeling parched from the fever, murmured, "I want some water."

Michael woke up instantly, quickly dressed, and fetched her a glass of water.

Without opening her eyes, Elizabeth drank the entire glass from his hand.

She fell back asleep immediately after.

Michael, now wide awake, glanced at the brightening sky and headed to the kitchen.

In the morning, Elizabeth woke up and lifted the covers to look at herself. She was puzzled, not knowing when she had changed into this nightgown she hadn't worn in a long time.

Feeling hungry, she went downstairs. Dean saw her and was surprised. "Elizabeth, why aren't you resting more?"

Elizabeth felt a bit dizzy. "I'm hungry."

Dean hurried to the kitchen and returned with a bowl of oatmeal. "Here, have some oatmeal."

Elizabeth took the bowl and quickly finished it.

Dean asked, "How does it taste?"

Elizabeth was curious. "Who made this? It's really good."

Dean replied, "Michael. He said you'd be hungry after the fever broke, so he made oatmeal early this morning and kept it warm for you."

Elizabeth was stunned. "Michael? When did he get here?"
