Chapter 587 Quarrel

Sarah stood in the parking lot, watching David's car shrink into the distance.

He didn't stop, didn't call her.

She stood there, head slightly tilted back, staring intently in the direction David had driven off.

Finally, the car disappeared from sight.

She wiped the corner of her eye, no longer hesitating. She pulled out her keys and drove off in the opposite direction.

After driving for a while, David calmed down. He turned the car around and headed back to the parking lot.

But there was no sign of Sarah anywhere.

He immediately took out his phone and called her.

"Where'd you go? Aren't you coming home? You gonna go drink more?"

Sarah's voice was calm, devoid of any emotion. "Since you didn't plan to wait for me, why do you care where I go?"

"I was just mad because of you..."

"I'm staying at my parents' for a few days. We both need to cool off."

"Fine, do whatever you want." David heard his own cold response. He hung up and slammed his fist on the steering wheel.

At the Martinez Villa, Sarah put down her bag, changed her clothes, and went straight to the bedroom.

Wren and Verity Martinez were sitting on the couch watching TV.

"Another fight?" Verity frowned.

Wren sighed, "Sarah told me this afternoon that David wants her to cut back on social events."

"Who does he think he is?" Verity slammed the table, "When he begged to remarry, he didn't say that!"

"Keep your voice down," Wren lowered her voice, "Sarah must be feeling really upset right now."

Verity sighed, "It's always either about the company or the baby."

Wren nodded, "I've thought about it. I respect Sarah's decision. If she feels unhappy at the Franklin Villa, she can stay here, and I'll take care of her. If she still cares about David, she can visit him often. As for the baby, let's not pressure her too much."

Verity leaned closer and whispered, "You say you don't want to pressure her, but didn't you secretly contact your old friend, the OB-GYN specialist? And had Susan subtly suggest it to her? You think I don't know?"

Wren gently tapped him, "I was afraid if I told her directly, she wouldn't go."

Verity nodded, "Looks like she went. I heard from David that she's been taking medicine regularly."

Wren glanced towards Sarah's bedroom, tears in her eyes, "Sarah's been through so much. She used to be such a bright and cheerful girl. It's such a pity."

Verity gently hugged her, patting her shoulder, "Alright, it's all in the past. Let's not bring it up and make her sad."

Wren sniffled and nodded slightly, "I know, I just can't help but think how happy Sarah would be if that hadn't happened."

Verity sighed, "Nothing in this world is perfect. At least Sarah is still with us, right? No couple can maintain the passion of their honeymoon forever. There will always be ups and downs. It's up to them to decide how to handle it."

In the bedroom, Sarah lay on the bed and dialed Elizabeth's number.

"Elizabeth, I miss you so much. Why aren't you here?"

On the other end, Elizabeth was in the changing room, putting on her isolation gown, "Sarah, what's wrong? Have you been crying? Did you fight with David?"

Sarah felt wronged. "He always says I don't care about the family and complains when I come home late. Lately, he's been criticizing me all the time. Does he hate me now?"

"Sarah, David used to see you as soon as he got home. Now, with you working late, he comes home to an empty house. Maybe he's feeling lost and looking for comfort?"

Sarah pouted. "Elizabeth, you don't know how awful he was tonight! He insulted my mom too! It's too much! I can tolerate him yelling at me, but I can't stand him disrespecting my parents! I want a divorce!"

She was furious.

Elizabeth finished changing and picked up her phone. "From what I know, David isn't like that. Are you sure you didn't mishear?"

"I..." Sarah hesitated. "I was really angry at the time, so I don't remember exactly what he said."

"Sarah, you told me that after you and David remarried, you would cherish your relationship. I'm not defending David, I'm just worried you'll regret it later. Don't act impulsively. Find a time to calmly talk to him."

Sarah was reluctant. "Alright, I'll try."

Elizabeth suddenly asked, "Aren't you guys trying for a baby? How can you have sex when you're fighting all the time?"

Sarah blushed at her bluntness.

She quickly changed the subject. "Elizabeth, I heard you went to Majestic City again? Do you miss Michael that much? You two just separated a few days ago!"

Elizabeth stood at the changing room door with her phone. "He got seriously injured. I couldn't stop worrying, so I came to check on him."

Sarah was shocked and sat up. "What? Michael got hurt again? He really has a tough life!"

Elizabeth looked around and whispered, "That's why this time, I'm taking him with me. It's too dangerous here."

After hanging up, Sarah lay quietly on the bed, staring out the window.

Moonlight streamed through the glass, casting a glow on her.

On the other side of the city, David stared at the same moon, lost in thought, unable to sleep.

Early the next morning, David was awakened by the sound of the door opening.

He had struggled to sleep all night and had only dozed off in the early hours.

He sat up, rubbed his aching temples, and tried to open his eyes.

Jolin was already standing by his bed. "You and Sarah fought again?"

David sighed. "Mom, am I not an adult? Can't I have some privacy?"

He closed his eyes again, sighed, and lay back down, pulling the covers over his head in frustration.

It was early in the morning, and Jolin and Gareth had stormed in, probably tipped off by the housekeeper.

Sarah not coming home was a big deal, and the housekeeper wouldn't dare hide it from Jolin.

David thought, 'This housekeeper can't stay any longer.'

Gareth walked in and sat on the couch with Jolin. He crossed his legs and spoke in a calm tone. "So, what's your plan?"

David's voice came from under the covers. "Dad, Mom, can you not make such a big deal out of this? Sarah and I have fought before."

"What was it about this time?" Jolin pressed.

"It doesn't matter what it was about! It's our business! We're not kids!" David was irritated. "I want to go back to sleep. You guys should leave."

Jolin stood up. "Since you won't talk, we'll go to the Martinez Villa and ask Sarah."
