Chapter 420 Taking Back Everything That Belongs to Her
Margaret's eyes were steely. "I want the whole Taylor family. I'm done depending on anyone. I want to control my own life. I don't want to end up like my mom, always leaning on men. When my dad stopped loving her, she turned to Samuel. That fool thought Samuel actually cared about her, and she even abandoned me, her own daughter."
"She never thought about who was responsible for Samuel's mother's death. How could he possibly accept the murderer of his mother? Samuel's always been after the Taylor family. Everyone else is just a pawn to him."
Michael stood up. "Margaret, let's work together for our mutual benefit."
Margaret stood up too. "Deal. I won't let you down."
Samuel bought trending topics, spreading the news of Michael and Margaret's upcoming wedding everywhere.
Both the financial and entertainment sections were buzzing with details about the wedding, showcasing the extravagance of the wealthy. These were all Samuel's demands for Michael.
"You need to show how much you value this wedding and respect Margaret. Otherwise, what's the point?"
To all of Samuel's demands, Michael just said, "Okay."
Samuel even had Michael transfer $2 billion to him, claiming it was compensation for the hardship of raising Margaret.
Although Michael found this ridiculous, since he hadn't raised Margaret, he still transferred the money as Samuel requested.
Samuel was feeling triumphant. He thought to himself, 'Michael, haven't you always been untouchable? Now, you're at my mercy, doing whatever I tell you to do.'
Due to his burns not fully healing, Samuel had been staying in his room, not going out. A family doctor visited daily to change his dressings and prevent infection.
Jennifer, who was abroad, saw the news and guessed Samuel's involvement. She was furious and called him.
"Samuel, it was you, wasn't it?"
Samuel played dumb. "What are you talking about? I don't get it."
Jennifer didn't hide her anger. "Samuel, cut the crap. You have the box, don't you? You set up the car accident and took the box! You ruined my plans and now Michael's after me!"
Samuel laughed triumphantly. "Jennifer, you're just too dumb. How can you blame me? Your stupidity has nothing to do with me, right?"
Jennifer was frustrated. "I underestimated you. You're a master of disguise! I thought you were seriously injured. I was careless!"
"No worries, you figured it out just in time. Since you're my defeated opponent, how about I invite you to Margaret's wedding? It's going to be the wedding of the century, and you can't get in without an invitation. How about I give you this honor?"
Jennifer was unimpressed. "I'm not like you. I don't have your guts. I'm afraid of being hunted. If I go, I'd be walking into a trap. I'd rather stay hidden for now. Don't get too cocky. If Michael gets that leverage back, see how he deals with you."
Samuel dismissed the warning with a laugh. "Haha, Jennifer, you're still too naive! Do you think I'd be dumb enough to keep something that important with me? I'm not fully recovered; I can't protect it."
He continued, "Since you helped me before, I'll give you a hint: I hid it somewhere no one would ever think of. If anything happens to me, she'll expose Michael's secret. So, Michael won't dare touch me."
Jennifer sneered. "Michael wants me dead, so I don't care if he suffers. I hope you can keep him in check."
There was a knock on the door.
Samuel hung up and sat up. "Who is it?"
Margaret's voice came through. "It's me."
Samuel got up to open the door. "What are you doing here?"
Margaret looked down. "I don't want to take off my veil at the wedding. Samuel, I hope you can cancel the part where the groom lifts the bride's veil. I don't want to expose my face to the public."
Samuel sneered. "My dear sister, how can that be? If your face isn't exposed, how can I humiliate Michael? He's always been better than me, always in the spotlight. You have no idea how long I've waited for this moment. Now that I can finally vent my frustration, do you think I'd let this chance slip by?"
Margaret looked up, pleading. "Samuel, I'm your sister! Didn't you always dote on me? Would you really bear to see me upset?"
A flicker of hesitation crossed Samuel's eyes, but he quickly pushed Margaret aside. "Don't you get it? My kindness to you was just an act. Now that I'm about to inherit the entire Taylor family, you only have one last use to me."
He lifted Margaret's chin, his eyes filled with disdain. "My dear Margaret, do you think I'd agree to your request?"
Tears streamed down Margaret's face. "Samuel, I've already become like this. I pose no threat to your position. Please, let me go. I'm begging you!"
Samuel, impatient, shoved her away. "Get out! Don't let me see you! You disgust me!"
He slammed the door shut.
In the hallway, Margaret slowly got up from the floor. She wiped her tears away forcefully, her eyes filled with cold hatred. The pitiful look from moments ago was gone.
She stood up, a cold smile forming on her lips.
She glanced at Samuel's closed door, her scarred face showing a steely resolve.
She silently walked away.
In her heart, she said, 'Fine, Samuel, you've shattered my last illusion about you. Don't blame me for being ruthless. Since we've torn off the masks, I won't hold back.'
She used to long for family warmth and had no interest in fighting for the inheritance.
But now, things were different. If she didn't fight, she'd be a fool.
With Byron gone, she had no protection left. Samuel wouldn't spare her and her mother.
So, it was time to take back everything that rightfully belonged to her.
With newfound determination, Margaret walked away confidently.
In Valoria.
Elizabeth had adjusted her mindset and was focused on researching Quinn's treatment plan.
Francis was mostly cared for by Susan. Nolan and Pearl were well-behaved and didn't disturb her.
Dean, arriving from Celestria, felt relieved seeing her. Having something to do to divert her attention made it less likely for bad moods to affect her.
