Chapter 177 Who Kissed Her Lips
Eloise, like a curious kid, leaned over the bed and grabbed Elizabeth's hand.
But Elizabeth didn't budge, still snoozing away.
Michael whispered, "Eloise, don't wake her up. She needs her rest."
Eloise looked up at Michael with wide eyes. "Michael, I saw you touching Elizabeth. Why can you do it, but I can't?"
Michael fumbled for words. "I was just... her hair was in her face, and I didn't want it to block her breathing, so I moved it. That's all."
Michael nodded as he spoke, trying to convince her.
Eloise always trusted Michael without question.
So, she reached out and gently brushed Elizabeth's hair away from her forehead.
Michael was taken aback by her actions.
To Eloise, Elizabeth was a stranger.
They hadn't even said hello before.
Even if they had met, they wouldn't know each other well.
From what he knew about Eloise, she was usually wary of strangers and avoided them.
Even with Calla, who had operated on her, Eloise was always distant.
Though Calla showed her a lot of care in front of Michael, Eloise still kept her at arm's length.
Why was Eloise so friendly to Elizabeth?
Not only was she interested in Elizabeth, but she even held her hand.
What did this mean?
Either Eloise's surgery was a huge success, and she no longer avoided physical contact with strangers.
Or, Eloise trusted Elizabeth. She knew Elizabeth.
Michael couldn't help but ask, "Eloise, do you like Elizabeth?"
Eloise looked up and nodded. "Yeah, I do. Michael, don't you like her?"
Michael hesitated. "It's not that I don't like her; it's that I can't like her."
Eloise found this odd. "She's so nice, why can't you like her?"
Michael caught onto her words. "Eloise, you think she's nice?"
Eloise felt puzzled. "Don't you think Elizabeth is nice?"
Michael found Eloise a bit strange today, always dodging his questions and throwing them back at him. "Yeah, she's nice."
Eloise said, "Since you think she's nice, why can't you be with her? She's so beautiful. I want you to be with her. I want to see Elizabeth every day."
Michael found this super strange. "Eloise, you're confusing me. Why do you think Elizabeth is nice? What has she done for you? I can't be with her because I'm already with Calla. A man should only be with one woman at a time; otherwise, it's wrong."
Eloise tilted her head. "Michael, then why don't you let Calla leave?"
Michael opened his mouth, trying to figure out how to answer.
Tonight, Eloise's questions were really tough.
He couldn't tell her he was with Calla because she could operate on her.
He was scared that if Calla left, he wouldn't find someone else to do the surgery, delaying her recovery.
Seeing Eloise yawn, Michael said to her, "Let's get you back to your room. It's late, you need to sleep."
Eloise got up, walked to the door, and glanced back at the still-sleeping Elizabeth on the bed, not wanting to leave.
Sure, she thought Elizabeth was great, but when Michael asked her why, she couldn't spill the beans.
If Michael found out, he'd dig into why she left Global Horizons International School.
That would drag Nolan into it.
She knew Michael didn't like Nolan, and Nolan wasn't a fan of Michael either.
Eloise felt stuck.
She liked both Michael and Nolan. She wished they could get along. But every time they met, it was always a clash.
Eloise took one last look at Elizabeth, then headed to her room. She wondered when Elizabeth would wake up. When she did, would she still talk to her gently, hold her hand softly, and tell her not to be scared, just like before?
Elizabeth's voice had this magical calming effect.
Eloise missed how Elizabeth took care of her.
With Calla, she never felt that way, only wanting to get away.
She could tell that when Elizabeth cared for her, it was genuine, but with Calla, it seemed like she was just putting on a show for Michael.
Michael watched Eloise's eyes. He knew that something had definitely happened between Eloise and Elizabeth that he wasn't aware of.
But every time he asked Eloise, she couldn't explain it clearly.
Michael took Eloise back to her room. He watched her lie down and fall asleep.
When Eloise's eyes closed and her breathing steadied, Michael stood up, tucked her in, turned off the light, closed the door, and left the room.
In the master bedroom, Elizabeth was still fast asleep. Just now, in a daze, she heard a man and a woman talking. Their voices were low, like they didn't want to wake her; they only said a few words and then left.
Elizabeth continued to drift into a sweet dream. Her sleep position was anything but graceful. In no time, she had taken over Michael's entire bed. The blanket was rolled up and draped over her waist.
Elizabeth felt like she had a long dream.
At first, she dreamed she was falling into an endless abyss. She struggled in the darkness for a long time, always unable to find a way out.
She was anxious, wanting to seek help, wanting to shout, but couldn't make a sound.
It was like she was bound by some invisible force, unable to break free.
Then, someone broke through the chaos around her and called her name.
She wanted to respond but couldn't open her mouth.
She wanted to open her eyes but didn't even have the strength to do so.
Then, someone picked her up.
She nestled into that person's arms, feeling incredibly secure.
In that person's arms, she fell into a deep sleep.
Later, she heard someone talking by her ear.
It seemed they mentioned her name.
They were all saying they liked her.
Elizabeth wanted to open her mouth and thank them for liking her.
She wanted to open her eyes and see who they were.
But they left.
She fell back into the chaotic darkness.
But this time, she no longer felt lonely and afraid.
Soon, someone gently took her hand, interlacing their fingers with hers.
Warm breaths brushed against her ear.
Someone's trembling lips touched her forehead, her nose, her face, her lips.
