Chapter 455 Sneak Attack

Elizabeth went to the lab to pick up the blood samples of Michael and Jesse, carefully labeling each one.

Back at Whispering Pines Estates, she opened the lower compartment of the fridge and took out a bag.

Inside was a blood donation bag from Eloise, with a small amount of blood remaining.

At that time, Francis was still in the hospital, and his symptoms improved significantly after the blood transfusion. Michael had yelled at her then, telling her that it was Eloise who had donated blood for Francis.

Elizabeth had kept the blood bag, telling the nurse she wanted to keep a sample of the donor's blood as a memento. The nurse agreed.

Later, she brought the blood bag home.

She had planned to tell Francis, once he was older, that during his critical moments as a child, Eloise had sacrificed her own life to give him a chance at survival.

Now, the blood bag had another purpose.

Elizabeth used a syringe to draw a bit of blood from the bag.

She now had three labeled blood samples.

She sent them to the lab for a DNA test.

Recently, a troubling thought had been haunting her. So, she decided to confirm her suspicions.

Were Michael and Eloise actually siblings?

Jesse and Michael looked so alike—did they share a blood relation?

If Jesse was indeed Michael's biological father, was Quinn the real youngest son of the Thomas family?

Were Quinn and Eloise the true twin siblings?

If these relationships were confirmed, should she tell Michael?

He was now in a prominent position, not entirely dependent on the Thomas family, but the initial funding for his STellar Enterprises had come from them.

What would people think of him? Would they believe he had stolen the Thomas family's wealth?

After all, who would care whether STellar Enterprises was his hard-earned creation or originally belonged to the Thomas family?

Elizabeth felt a headache coming on and decided to stop thinking about it. She would wait for the results.

In the president's office at Zenith Investments.

Matthew sat on the couch opposite Margaret.

"Margaret, you know why I'm here."

"Matthew, long time no see."

"Margaret, I'm not here for a reunion. I'm here to end your life."

Margaret smiled faintly and then regained her composure. "Did Michael send you? No one else could command you."

Matthew's face was all business. "You're right. Michael sent me. Margaret, you and your brother have done so many wrong things. Michael had already let you go. Why did you keep making mistakes?"

Margaret looked innocent. "Matthew, I'm confused. What did I do?"

Matthew's face showed no trace of his former affection. "At this point, I can't save you. Michael said you should end it yourself."

Margaret removed her mask and sneered. "He's as heartless as ever, not a bit of pity for me."

Matthew found her unreasonable. "You planted a bomb near him, and you expect him to consider you? Margaret, what are you thinking?"

Margaret held her head in her hands. "Matthew, I really don't know what I'm thinking. I live like a corpse every day, without emotions, thoughts, or a soul. I have no family, no friends. The only person I can trust and talk to is you, Matthew. What should I do? I have to take a lot of medication just to eat and sleep."

She opened a drawer, grabbed a bunch of bottles and boxes, and threw them on the desk.

"Look, these are the meds my psychiatrist prescribed."

Matthew glanced at the pile. The packages were all opened, showing Margaret was indeed taking them.

He walked over and picked up a box.

The instructions indicated it was for severe depression.

Matthew's heart sank. He looked at Margaret.

Her eyes were lifeless. She was no longer the vibrant, flamboyant woman she once was.

Matthew felt a pang of compassion but remembered his purpose. "Michael told me you must die this time."

He placed a syringe filled with medication in front of her. "This will let you go painlessly. It's the last thing I can do for you. I begged him to give you a dignified way out."

Margaret walked over, took the syringe, and placed it on the table.

"Matthew, since I'm about to die, can you hold me?"

Faced with this Margaret, Matthew softened again. He turned his head, allowing Margaret to hug him without resistance.

He faced the glass and suddenly saw Margaret's reflection.

She picked up a glass ashtray and smashed it against the back of his neck.

He fell heavily to the ground before he could react.

Margaret put down the ashtray, dusted off her hands, and lightly kicked Matthew.

"Matthew, do you know why you can only work for Michael? Because you're too stupid! You keep falling for my tricks and never learn!"

At the Jones Group.

The receptionist called Elizabeth.

"Ms. Jones, there are two people here to see you. They say they're from Felin Jewelry Store."

Elizabeth remembered Felin Jewelry Store. Michael had mentioned that he had given them the design for their wedding rings.

She told the receptionist, "Send them up."

She hadn't expected Michael to have the jewelry store deliver the rings directly to the office.

Was he afraid people wouldn't know they were getting married?

Elizabeth waited for a while before the jewelry store representatives arrived.

One of them carried a small safe. Once inside the office, one of them asked Elizabeth, "Ms. Jones, may we show you your rings now?"

Elizabeth nodded and gestured for them to proceed. "Go ahead."

One of them pressed a fingerprint, and the safe clicked open.

Elizabeth had wondered why it took two people to deliver two rings.

It turned out the jewelry store's safe required two people to open it.

They put on gloves and placed a black velvet tray on Elizabeth's desk.

Each took out a ring and placed it on the tray, then gestured to Elizabeth.

"Ms. Jones, please take a look and try them on."

Elizabeth picked up the smaller ring with a large pink diamond on the base and slipped it onto her ring finger.

The size was perfect.

The diamond ring Michael had slipped on her finger while she slept had been removed and tossed into a drawer when he left her to attend his wedding with Margaret. She had never worn it again.
