Chapter 534 Miscarriage
The woman's eyes narrowed, watching Sherry closely.
Sherry finished her milk, set the bottle aside, and let out a satisfied burp. "Thanks, it was tangy and sweet, really good."
The woman gave a cryptic smile and walked towards the door. "I've bothered you long enough. I should be going."
Sherry escorted her to the elevator. "There's still hope for you. We never planned on getting married."
As soon as the elevator doors opened, the woman dashed inside as if fleeing.
Sherry shook her head with a smile and returned to her apartment.
The moment she stepped inside, a sharp pain twisted in her abdomen. She clutched her stomach and collapsed onto the couch.
The housekeeper approached her. "Ms. Reed, you don't look well. Would you like to lie down and rest?"
Sherry nodded, curling up on the couch, holding her stomach.
It felt like a lead ball was dragging her lower abdomen down, tearing at her insides. The pain was sudden and intense, leaving her cold and drenched in sweat.
Sherry's teeth chattered, and the pain in her abdomen rendered her speechless.
She raised a trembling hand, signaling the housekeeper to call Matthew.
The housekeeper, alarmed by Sherry's pale face, quickly dialed Matthew's number.
"Mr. Anderson, please come home quickly! Ms. Reed is in severe pain!"
Matthew responded immediately. "I'm on my way."
He drove back to the apartment as fast as he could.
As soon as he opened the door, he saw Sherry curled up on the couch. Her usually rosy cheeks were now a chilling pale.
Matthew hesitated to touch her, whispering, "Sherry, what's wrong?"
Sherry struggled to look at him. "I think we're losing the baby."
Matthew's eyes widened, and he knelt beside her, worried. "What about you? Are you okay?"
He took off his suit jacket, draped it over her, and lifted her into his arms. "I'm taking you to the hospital. I should have called an ambulance first."
Sherry, weak and curled up, lay in his arms.
Matthew realized how light she was, despite her tall frame.
Suddenly, he felt something wet on his hand. He looked down quickly.
Before he could see, the housekeeper gasped. "Mr. Anderson, it's blood! Ms. Reed is bleeding a lot! Oh my God! Poor baby! God help us!"
Matthew's heart sank.
He carried Sherry and rushed to the car.
At the hospital's emergency room, the doctor arranged for an ultrasound.
The doctor regretfully informed them, "I'm sorry, but the baby is gone."
Sherry's face remained expressionless.
Matthew felt a deep discomfort.
Initially, he had despised the baby growing inside Sherry. But after learning it was his, he had resisted, then gradually accepted the baby's presence.
He had even prepared a nursery in the apartment, anticipating the baby's arrival.
Seeing Sherry's lifeless expression, he whispered, "Sherry, don't be sad. You're still young. There will be other children."
Sherry closed her eyes, tears silently falling.
The doctor gave them instructions, emphasizing no intercourse for a month, and prescribed some oral medication before sending them home.
The car ride back was filled with a heavy silence.
Matthew broke the silence first. "Sherry, don't be sad. Focus on getting better first."
Sherry, leaning weakly against the back seat, spoke softly. "Matthew, stop pretending. You wanted this baby gone. Otherwise, you wouldn't have let a stranger into your apartment to give me something to drink. You didn't need to go through all this trouble."
Matthew was shocked and immediately denied it. "Sherry, I admit I wasn't ready to be a father at first. But recently, I was really looking forward to the baby."
Sherry looked out the window. "Matthew, I'm not going back to your apartment. Please take me to Whispering Pines Estates."
Matthew grew more anxious. "Sherry, it doesn't have to be this way. Even though we lost the baby, I won't kick you out now. You can still stay at my place."
Sherry, exhausted, replied, "I'll have to leave eventually. Might as well do it now. Please pack my things and have them sent over."
At a red light, Matthew checked the home surveillance footage.
He spoke softly. "Sherry, I saw the footage. That woman was a former neighbor of my parents. Her parents are close to mine. But she must have caused this. I won't let her get away with it. I'll make sure she pays."
Sherry closed her eyes. "No need. You should thank her. She solved your big problem. With the baby gone, you won't have to worry about your parents pressuring you to marry me."
Matthew's heart sank further.
He couldn't understand why, despite having no real feelings for Sherry, her words felt like a stab to his heart.
Matthew dropped Sherry off at Whispering Pines Estates.
Nolan was just about to leave and was surprised to see her. "Aunt Sherry, what are you doing here?"
Before Sherry could respond, Matthew said, "Sherry had a miscarriage. She needs to recover. She didn't want to stay at my place, so she came back here."
Nolan gave Matthew a cold look. "She was only at your place for a few days, and she miscarried already? You didn't want this baby, did you? Why did you bother taking her in the first place?"
Matthew was speechless and lowered his head.
Sherry tugged on Nolan's sleeve, signaling him to go inside.
They returned to the living room, leaving Matthew outside. He drove away, feeling dejected.
Susan saw Sherry and was shocked. "Sherry, you look terrible. Are you sick?"
Nolan answered for her. "Susan, Aunt Sherry had a miscarriage. Could you make her something to eat? I'll take her to her room to rest."
Susan nodded and went to the kitchen.
Nolan and Sherry went to her old room.
Sherry kicked off her shoes and collapsed onto the bed, her voice breaking. "This bed is more comfortable."
Nolan sat beside her. "Did Matthew hurt you?"
Sherry shook her head. "No, he was good to me. I was tricked. It's my fault for being too trusting."
At the Central Hospital in Majestic City.
The bodyguard walked beside Elizabeth as they left the hospital. "Ms. Jones, it's not safe here. We should head back to Aurora Bay."
Elizabeth pulled out her phone and opened her contacts. "I still want to try. I don't believe Michael has forgotten me."
Before the call connected, three black SUVs pulled up, and several burly men got out, surrounding them.
The bodyguard stepped in front of Elizabeth, shielding her. "Who are you?"
