Chapter 112 He Still Doesn't Love Her

Susan stepped up and gave a respectful smile. "Ms. Taylor, it's been a while. Mr. Thomas has been waiting for you."

Margaret's face beamed with pride. After four long years, she was finally back at the Thomas Villa.

Even though she'd been abroad, Margaret always kept tabs on Michael. She'd heard he was on the lookout for one of Emily's students. So, she pulled every string she could to figure out who Michael was after. That was how she found Calla Griffin.

Calla was Emily's star pupil. She was a brain surgery whiz.

Margaret spent ages tracking down Calla and bringing her to Michael, hoping she could help him out.

Early this morning, Margaret had called Michael to let him know Calla was back in town and could meet him.

Michael jumped at the chance and agreed right away.

From the moment he hung up, he waited in the living room, even forgetting about his appointment with Elizabeth.

Calla walked in, barely glancing at the fancy decor. She looked indifferent, like she didn't care about anything.

Margaret spotted Michael on the sofa and tried to keep her excitement in check.

Michael quickly walked over to Calla and extended his hand. "Hello, Ms. Griffin. I'm Michael. It's great to meet you. Sorry for the sudden invite, but I really need your help."

Calla shook his hand politely. "Mr. Thomas, you're too kind. I heard you have a patient who needs my help, so I came. A doctor's duty is to save lives, and wherever there's a patient in need, I'll be there."

Michael was clearly thrilled. He'd finally found the person he'd been searching for.

And Calla didn't seem like someone who was in it for the money.

Eloise Thomas, Michael's twin sister, could be saved.

From birth, her brain had been different. Doctors said her intelligence was like that of a three-year-old. She couldn't communicate normally.

Their father, Knox Thomas, was ashamed of having an disabled daughter. He hid all information about her and never admitted she was his daughter. So, no one knew Eloise existed.

Whenever he came home, he would beat and abuse Eloise. Michael saw this and always tried to protect her. So Knox would beat him too.

Michael's teenage years were filled with Eloise's cries and Knox's abuse.

Eloise was the most important person to him. They came into this world together. Her intellectual disability made him feel as if all the wisdom had been bestowed upon him by the heavens, which had resulted in Eloise's condition. He wouldn't let anyone bully her, not even their father. Because of this, Michael had severe childhood trauma.

He developed depression early on and had been on medication for it.

He never got any love from Knox. He didn't know what fatherly love was, or how to show it. So, he was extremely against having kids.

Because of his awful father, Knox, Michael didn't want to be a dad himself. He was scared that if he became a father, he'd lose it and turn into a monster like Knox. But he'd never tell Elizabeth any of this.

If he did, it would either freak her out or make her pity him, which Michael would hate to see.

Michael knew that Emily's lab had done a ton of research on Eloise's condition.

She and her students had worked really hard on it. Especially her top student, whose surgical skills were just as good as Emily's. This was a big chance to save Eloise, and Michael couldn't let it slip by.

He said to Calla, "Ms. Griffin, you must be exhausted from the trip. I've arranged a place for you to stay, and someone will take you there soon. There are servants to help you out. Once you're rested, you can contact me anytime. I'll take you to see the patient. She really needs you."

Calla nodded. "Thank you, Mr. Thomas. I do need a good rest to be at my best for the patient. Otherwise, it wouldn't be fair to them or their family."

Michael called the driver to take Calla to another Thomas Family property.

Now, it was just Michael and Margaret in the living room.

Margaret looked at Michael, her eyes red and full of emotion. "Michael, it's been so long."

Michael responded coolly, "Margaret, it's been a while. Thanks for finding Ms. Griffin. As I promised, I'll give you a financial reward for your help." He pulled out his checkbook.

Margaret stepped forward and pressed his hand down.

Michael shot her a cold look.

Margaret quickly pulled her hand back. "Michael, don't treat me like this. You know I don't need your money."

Michael replied icily, "Besides money, I don't know what else I can give you. Don't forget what you promised me four years ago."

Margaret said anxiously, "Michael, I don't want money. I just want to be by your side again. I don't expect you to feel the same. Just let me return to the Public Relations Department at Stellar Enterprises. I like it there. I can be useful and help you better."

Michael wanted to refuse. But without Margaret, he wouldn't have found Calla so quickly.

Thinking of this, he nodded. "Okay. You can report to HR and start in the Public Relations Department tomorrow. But you'll have to start from the bottom. The PR manager position you had is already taken." His tone was still cold.

Hearing Michael agree, Margaret was so happy she almost jumped. "It's okay, Michael. I believe in my abilities. I'll get the PR manager position back."

Michael's tone stayed cold. "Alright. Just do your job well and focus on your duties. Don't think about anything else. And don't go to the CEO's office on the top floor anymore."

Margaret's heart sank. How could she get close to him like this?

After all these years, she still loved him deeply. Her love hadn't faded; it had only grown stronger.

Yes, he still didn't love her.
