Chapter 388 Confession

Louis felt a bit awkward. He hadn't expected Eloise to see right through his conflicted feelings.

His face blushed instantly. "Eloise..."

Eloise took his hand. "Louis, I don't know how deep your feelings for Elizabeth go. But I do know you're a good person. Maybe Elizabeth met Michael too early, and that's why she can't love anyone else."

She paused, then continued, "Louis, why don't you give me a chance? I really like you. Would you consider being with me?"

Eloise's sudden confession startled Louis. He stammered, "Eloise, when did you start liking me? You don't really know me, you don't know what kind of person I am."

Eloise shook her head. "I've always trusted my instincts. I like Michael, Clio, Elizabeth, Pearl, and Nolan. They're all good people. I like you too, so you must be a good person."

"I don't know when I started liking you. Maybe it's because out of everyone, you're the only one who truly respects me. Or maybe you've always been a great person, and I naturally grew fond of you."

Louis couldn't help but laugh at her logic. "So you like me just because I'm a good person?"

Eloise shook her head again. "No, Louis, my feelings for you are different from my feelings for them. Would you treat me like a woman, Louis? I like you the way a woman likes a man."

"I know you still have feelings for Elizabeth, so I'm not asking for anything in return right now. Just let me like you."

Louis was moved. "Eloise..."

He saw a reflection of his younger self, the young man who silently loved Elizabeth back in Valoria.

Why hadn't he had this kind of courage back then? At least he could have let her know how he felt.

But it seemed like he would never get that chance again.

He took the thermos in one hand and held Eloise's hand with the other. "Let's not talk about this now. Come on, let's go see Elizabeth."

They headed straight to the neonatal intensive care unit. Sure enough, Elizabeth and Michael were there.

Just as Michael had predicted, Elizabeth had returned to the hospital right after a nap.

At that moment, she saw Louis and Eloise together, and a few thoughts crossed her mind. Lately, Eloise and Louis seemed to be getting closer.

Elizabeth thought to herself, 'Louis is a bit of a loner and doesn't have many friends back home. Eloise, with her unique condition, has grown up without many close friends either. They actually make a good pair.'

Michael noticed Louis holding Eloise's hand and frowned, his eyes fixed on Louis's hand.

"Eloise, why aren't you resting at home? Why did you come here again?"

He walked over and naturally took Eloise's hand, leaving Louis behind.

This time, however, Eloise didn't let him hold her hand. She casually pulled her hand away and took the thermos from Louis.

"Elizabeth, Louis and I made some soup for you. Try it."

Elizabeth was surprised that Eloise had learned to make soup. She took it and thanked her sincerely. "Thank you, Eloise. You're getting better and better."

Eloise smiled. "That's what Louis said too."

She naturally pulled Louis over to look at the monitor.

"Elizabeth, Michael, how's Francis doing?"

Elizabeth frowned. "We're waiting for a blood donor. Michael has already posted online, hoping someone will see it and come to donate. There's nothing we can do but wait."

Seeing her worried expression, Louis felt a knot in his stomach.

He tugged Eloise's hand. "Eloise, let's go. We'll check other hospitals to see if they have the right blood type."

Eloise left with him.

Louis knew very well that none of the hospitals in Aurora Bay had the right blood type.

When Francis's doctor first mentioned the need for a blood transfusion, he had already called all the blood banks and received negative responses.

He just didn't want to stay there and see Elizabeth and Michael together any longer.

Louis gripped the steering wheel tightly, deep in thought.

Eloise, sitting in the passenger seat, turned to look at him. "Louis, I want to donate blood to Francis."

Her eyes were resolute.

Louis refused without hesitation. "No."

Eloise grabbed his arm. "Why not? I'm Rh-negative O-type. I asked the doctor, and my blood can be given to anyone! I can donate to Francis."

Louis reminded her, "Eloise, I'm driving."

He knew she was right, but his rational mind wouldn't allow it.

If he agreed to let Eloise donate blood to Francis, Michael would probably kill him.

Moreover, if Eloise donated blood to Francis, Michael might hold it against Elizabeth.

And besides, Eloise had undergone surgery. Her body might not have fully recovered yet.

Eloise let go but remained firm. "Louis, you know I'm not joking. I genuinely want to donate blood to Francis."

Louis frowned. "Eloise, donating blood isn't as simple as you think. Francis needs at least a pint of fresh blood. You've had two surgeries in the past year. Your body still needs to recover. You can't donate blood."

Eloise suddenly changed the subject. "Louis, would you marry me?"

The car abruptly swerved to the side of the road with a screeching halt.

Eloise's body lurched forward, and Louis quickly pulled her back.

"Eloise, what are you saying? You can't just say things like that."

"Louis, I'm serious. I really want to marry you."

"Eloise, calm down, okay? Weren't we just talking about Francis?"

Eloise insisted. "Let's put Francis's situation aside for now. Louis, will you marry me? Forget about Elizabeth! If you keep liking her, you'll only be in pain."

Louis rested his head on the steering wheel, troubled. He couldn't help Elizabeth, and he couldn't help Eloise.

Eloise suddenly smiled. "Louis, I've never really had a chance to eat your cooking. Let's go back to your place, and you can cook for me, okay?"

That wasn't too difficult. Louis lifted his head and nodded. "Sure."

He restarted the car and drove towards his apartment.

Back at his place, Louis changed his shoes and headed straight to the kitchen.

"Eloise, you've been here so many times. Make yourself comfortable. I'll cook."

Eloise sat on the couch and gave him a sweet smile. "Okay."

Louis finished cooking quickly.

Eloise took a bottle of red wine from her bag and handed it to him. "Louis, I don't think I've ever seen you drink. Want to try some?"

Louis shook his head with a wry smile. "Sorry, Eloise, I'm a lightweight. One glass and I'm out."

Eloise looked down, appearing very disappointed. "Alright then."

Seeing her so downcast, Louis couldn't help but wonder what she was thinking.

But he had already turned down her requests several times today. Steeling himself, he took the bottle of wine from her hand.
