Chapter 556 Brotherhood
The woman who had first entered the room turned and left after receiving Cordelia's instructions.
She quickly returned with another woman, both carrying food containers. They placed the containers on the table and immediately left the room.
Cordelia smiled, "Ms. Jones, there's no need to be so hostile. I'm just here to check on you. I heard you have surgery tomorrow. You need to keep up your strength and nutrition today to be in good shape for tomorrow, right?"
Elizabeth didn't want anything from her. "Thanks for visiting, but please take your stuff with you. I don't need it."
Cordelia ignored her response. "Aren't you curious how I knew you were here? I can tell you. You and Michael are surrounded by Murphy family spies. We know your every move."
"Ms. Jones, you put yourself within my father's reach. Wouldn't it be better to stay in Aurora Bay? Why cling to this place? Your presence here distracts Michael."
"And as long as you stay, my father won't hand over the core business of the Murphy family to Michael. You love him, don't you? If you truly love him, wouldn't you want him to have a better, smoother life?"
Elizabeth turned her head. "I'll leave as soon as I'm discharged. I won't stay a day longer."
Cordelia smiled seductively. "That's good."
Her gaze lingered on Elizabeth's belly.
"Ms. Jones, I won't disturb you any longer. Goodbye."
She left the room with her maids.
Elizabeth's good mood, filled with memories, vanished instantly with Cordelia's sudden visit.
Rufus opened the food containers and exclaimed, "Ms. Jones, it's all delicious! Do you want some? Sea cucumber, abalone, all good stuff!"
Elizabeth lay down, pulled the blanket over her head, and muttered, "I don't want any! You eat it!"
Cordelia left Elizabeth's room and immediately contacted Glenn.
"Dr. Cole, I'm at the hospital. When is the surgery?"
"Elizabeth's surgery is scheduled for the first thing tomorrow morning. I'll perform her brain surgery first, then do the embryo transfer for you. Just be ready on time."
Cordelia's face lit up. "Got it."
Glenn sounded a bit uneasy. "Ms. Murphy, once the child is transferred to you, will you treat him well?"
Cordelia quickly replied, "Of course, I'll treat him well. After all, he'll be born from my womb."
Glenn pressed further, "And if one day the child learns about his true origins, will you let him choose his own family? If he wants to return to his biological mother, will you stop him?"
"No, I won't. I'm not that domineering. I'm not my father."
Cordelia thought to herself that Glenn must be feeling guilty and worried about Elizabeth. She needed to say what he wanted to hear to keep him on her side until the embryo transfer was done. The future could be dealt with later.
Glenn, reassured by Cordelia's answers, breathed a sigh of relief. This child wasn't meant to be born. If he stayed in Elizabeth's womb, he would only be aborted.
Now, transferred to Cordelia, he could grow up well and might even inherit the Murphy family fortune. Glenn thought he hadn't done anything wrong.
He backed up the recording of his conversation with Cordelia and set it to be sent to Elizabeth's email in eighteen years as well.
In Gerald's hospital room, his godson Zander Murphy was with him.
Michael and Zander didn't get along; they couldn't stand each other.
Zander had liked Cordelia since they were kids and wanted to marry her, but Michael had swooped in and taken her away. Zander wished every day for Michael's demise.
Michael left the hospital building and called Juan.
"Juan, get Kirk and Alfonso. I need to discuss something with you all."
On the other end, Juan was surprised. "Didn't you lose your memory? How do you still remember our brotherhood?"
"I only forgot things related to Elizabeth. Everything else, I remember."
Juan chuckled. "You sound like you have PTSD."
Michael continued, "Juan, you still keep in touch with Kirk and Alfonso, right?"
"Of course, they live nearby. We see each other often."
"It's a shame Jake Sherman and Efrain Hubbard are gone. Otherwise, we could all have a drink together."
"Just the few of us can still have a good time. Michael, come over to my place. I'll call them over. They miss you too."
When Michael arrived at the Stewart Manor, everyone was already there.
Kirk Gutierrez and Alfonso Carr greeted him warmly as soon as he walked in. "Michael! You're here! It's been so long!"
Michael called out to them, "Kirk! Alfonso! Long time no see!"
Everyone took their seats. Juan dismissed the servants and served them himself.
Kirk asked, "Michael, was Victor really poisoned by his butler? Did you have a hand in it?"
Michael took the coffee cup Juan handed him. "Kirk, Victor deserved to die long ago. He got off easy."
Alfonso agreed, "Exactly. He killed Jake and Efrain. We didn't even get to settle the score with him! We should have captured and tortured him, made him suffer. He got off too easy!"
Michael sipped his coffee. "Alfonso, how did Jake and Efrain die? Was it really because of Victor?"
Juan handed out coffee cups to Kirk and Alfonso. "Victor alone couldn't have done it. It was your dear father-in-law."
Michael frowned. "Gerald? He set it up?"
Kirk nodded. "Jake and Efrain never took Victor seriously, but they trusted Gerald completely. Otherwise, they wouldn't have fallen into the trap set by him and his son."
Juan looked at Michael. "Now that you're with the Murphy family, you must realize that Gerald isn't the same man he used to be."
Michael replied, "Juan, how do you know the Gerald we knew back then wasn't hiding something from us?"
Alfonso added, "Right! We formed our brotherhood to build something great. Gerald was a master of disguise. I always thought he was kind-hearted! He took over Jake and Efrain's businesses and didn't leave anything for their kids!"
Michael looked at them slowly. "Kirk, Juan, Alfonso, do you want to be the next Jake and Efrain, or do you want to strike first with me?"
