Elizabeth nodded seriously. "Yeah, Nolan. I understand that you might not be able to accept him right away, and that's not on you. He messed up as a dad at first."
"But he's promised to change and be there for you as you grow up. Just watch what he does from now on. Whether you accept him as your dad is totally up to you. I won't interfere."
Nolan looked down. "Mom, if you lived with him, would you be happier?"
Elizabeth was taken aback for a moment, then nodded. "Maybe. But I'm really happy being with you and Pearl. If I had to rank my happiness, you and Pearl would always come first."
Nolan looked at her intently. "Mom, your happiness is the most important. Pearl and I will grow up and leave one day. Will you feel lonely then? Maybe you do need a partner."
Elizabeth gazed at her son. Nolan often showed a maturity beyond his years. She wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not. All she wanted was for Nolan to grow up healthy and happy.

Dean looked at him intently. "Do you really think that? Do you truly want me to move in with you?"
