Chapter 166 For Her, Are You Going to Sacrifice Your Happiness?
Michael responded indifferently, "I'm not jealous. The guy in the photo is just an assistant in Ms. Johnson's lab."
Matthew raised an eyebrow. "Wait, you know him? I thought he was Elizabeth's new boyfriend."
Michael shot him a cold glare.
Matthew pressed on. "Don't give me that look. You messed things up with Elizabeth. You never appreciated her. Are you regretting it now?"
Michael replied firmly, "I don't regret it."
If Elizabeth was happier without him, he was okay with that.
Matthew shook his head. "You're just being stubborn! You've been with Calla for a while now. How's that going? Do you love her? Is it working out?"
Michael looked puzzled. "Does being together mean we have to be in love?"
Matthew slapped his forehead, not understanding Michael's thoughts. "Michael, what are you thinking? If you don't like Calla, why not break up with her? Why force yourself? You're not happy with her anyway."
Michael stayed expressionless. "Calla's the only one who can perform surgery on Eloise and handle her follow-up treatment. I don't have another option."
Matthew sighed. "Michael, happiness isn't something that just happens. You have to work for it. If you don't have feelings for Calla, why stay with her? Just for Eloise? You're willing to sacrifice your happiness for her?"
He continued, "You must really love Eloise, even giving up your love and marriage for her. But have you thought about finding another doctor? Medical technology is always advancing. If you look hard enough, there's got to be someone else who can treat Eloise. Isn't Calla a student of Ms. Johnson? Why can't Elizabeth do the surgery? Have you asked her? Elizabeth and Calla are about the same age and she is also a member of Ms. Johnson's lab. Their skills should be similar, right?"
Michael's face darkened. "Calla's been working as a neurosurgeon abroad. Elizabeth is different. She joined Ms. Johnson's lab but also co-founded Innovatech Solutions. Medicine is just a hobby for her. Business is her main goal."
Matthew's expression turned serious.
He muttered, "Got it."
At the Jones Group, Elizabeth said to Dean, "I just brought Louis over, but you weren't here."
Dean replied, "I was out checking some hotel banquet halls. Did he stop by?"
Elizabeth nodded, "Yeah, he visited our company but didn't see you."
Dean said, "Your birthday is coming up. You'll see each other then. Have you decided where to host the party?"
Elizabeth shrugged, "Why have a party? We can just stay home, have a nice meal with the family, cut a cake, sing a birthday song. Isn't that enough?"
Dean shook his head. "This is your first birthday since coming back. As the new leader of the Jones Group, you haven't made a public appearance yet! The business community in Aurora Bay is buzzing about you with all sorts of rumors. Are you sure you don't want to make an official appearance?"
Elizabeth looked at Dean skeptically. "Do we really need to do this?"
Dean nodded seriously, not agree with him. "Yeah, I think it's necessary. I might be more of a tech guy, not big on business socializing, but I know the power of a good PR move. Throwing a birthday party isn't just about celebrating; it can also enhance the company's reputation."
Elizabeth sighed. "It's just a birthday. Why make it so complicated? If it's all about business, why does it have to be on my birthday? Can't we just pick any random day?"
Dean explained patiently, "You need a reason to throw a party! Your birthday is the perfect excuse."
Elizabeth raised her eyebrow to look at him. "I've got a lot on my plate right now. Tons of work waiting for me at the company. If you're so keen on this party, why don't you handle everything? You find the venue, plan the menu, make the guest list, handle it all. I'll just show up. Deal?"
Dean grinned. "Deal! You said it! The guest list is all mine."
Elizabeth nodded affirmatively. "Yep, it's all yours. I'll just be there, playing my part."
Meanwhile, at Stellar Enterprises, Michael's phone rang. He glanced at the screen.
It was Calla.
He frowned slightly but answered the call.
Calla's soft voice came through, "Michael, are you busy?"
Michael replied in a low voice, "Yeah, a bit."
Calla continued, "Eloise's condition has been stable lately. I've been stuck at the villa with nothing to do. No work, no experiments. I'm getting bored."
She paused. "Michael, can you come shopping with me? It's almost autumn, and I didn't bring enough clothes."
Michael thought for a moment. "Pack up and have the driver take you to the entrance of Cedar Street to wait."
Calla hung up, her face lighting up with joy.
From Michael's words, it seemed he was going to join her for shopping.
She thought, 'Great. Maybe he's not as cold as I thought.'
Calla happily walked into the dressing room to get ready.
Michael then called Matthew. "Are you free? I have a task for you."
Matthew waited with a puzzled expression for him to continue.
"Yeah, to keep you from wandering around aimlessly. Have the company driver take you to the entrance of Cedar Street. Calla wants to go shopping. I don't have time to go with her. You do it!" Michael said and hung up.
Matthew sat in the finance office, staring at his phone in disbelief.
He shouted at his phone, "Hey! What the hell! Calla is your girlfriend, why should I take her shopping? What is this? If she wants to buy expensive stuff, do I pay or not?"
As he fumed, his phone buzzed with a message.
Michael: [Just go shopping with her, don't say anything else. Whatever she likes, use my card to pay.]
