Chapter 80 The Bold Mr. Thomas
Michael tossed his phone on the table.
The screen was facing the ceiling.
Alaric, sounding all jittery, asked, "Ms. Jones, when are we getting our research funding? Our plan's all set, just waiting on the cash. Have you and Mr. Taylor signed the contract yet? When's it happening?"
Michael picked up the phone and said into the mic, "There's no contract. There won't be any deal with Zenith Investments."
Alaric, clearly freaked out by the sudden deep voice, stammered, "I-Isn't t-this Ms. Jones's phone? Who are you?"
Michael, taking his sweet time, replied, "Ms. Jones is in the bath. As for me," he pointed the camera at his face and said slowly, "Don't you recognize me?"
Alaric's eyes went wide, "Michael? Are you Mr. Thomas from STellar Enterprises?"
Michael nodded, "Yep, that's me."
Then, without missing a beat, he hung up and tossed the phone onto the bed before heading out to grab some water.
Alaric was left in shock.
At first, he was bummed out about the no-go with Zenith Investments. But then he remembered, Elizabeth had STellar Enterprises backing her up.
Everyone in Aurora Bay knew Michael was loaded. Just a flick of his wrist and he could solve the Jones Group's money problems.
Elizabeth was really on top of things. First, Zenith Investments' Samuel was eager to invest, and now Michael from STellar Enterprises was making moves for her.
Even though Elizabeth seemed calm on the surface, she had already taken care of everything behind the scenes.
Alaric felt a wave of relief and quickly shared the good news in the Jones Group management chat, which Elizabeth wasn't part of.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth, still soaking in the tub, had no clue about any of this.
Nancy got home as it was getting dark.
She headed to the kitchen to cook and called out to Elizabeth from her bedroom door, "Elizabeth, dinner's ready."
Elizabeth had pretty much slept the whole day.
She was already tired, and in the afternoon, Michael had worn her out with their little escapade.
After her bath, she was even more exhausted and took another nap.
When she woke up, it was already dark.
Michael was gone. His big suitcase was gone too.
He might have seen that she was truly exhausted and sleeping so soundly, so he didn't bid her farewell. The room felt empty, making her feel quite lost.
Meanwhile, in a dimly lit coffee shop, piano music softly played in the background.
Samuel and Margaret sat together, sipping their coffee.
Margaret elegantly stirred her coffee with a spoon. "Samuel, you didn't just ask me out for coffee for no reason. What's going on?"
Samuel gently rubbed the rim of his coffee cup with his thumb. "Margaret, has Michael been in touch with you lately?"
"Samuel, are you kidding me? Do you think I'd believe you if you said you didn't know where Michael is? Isn't everything he does under your watch?" Margaret took a light sip of her coffee.
Samuel also took a sip, trying to hide his embarrassment. "Margaret, it's not like that. I really want to check on you."
"Samuel, if you really care about me, then pull your investment from Elizabeth's company and stop helping her. Show me some real action to prove you're sincere as my brother," Margaret huffed.
"Pulling the investment is out of the question. I've already made up my mind, and that's not changing. Margaret, are you free at the end of this month?" Samuel asked.
Margaret casually stirred the foam on her coffee with a spoon, "I'm free every day. Michael doesn't let me get involved in STellar Enterprises' affairs much, so I've got plenty of time. Why?"
"At the end of this month, Zenith Investments and the Jones Group are organizing a team-building event. If you want to come, I'll send you the details," Samuel said.
Margaret's eyes lit up with excitement. She glared with reddened eyes and hissed, "Team-building? Zenith Investments and the Jones Group together? Samuel, is this your idea of sincerity?"
Samuel glanced at her, "Why are you so worked up? I haven't finished. You can invite Michael. Just tell him it's a team-building event for Zenith Investments and the Jones Group. Then just wait."
Margaret sneered and slammed her coffee cup back on the tray. "Samuel, do you think I'm stupid? If you and the Jones Group are having a team-building event, Elizabeth will definitely be there! Even if Michael shows up, it'll be to see her! Are you promoting them or helping me?"
Samuel took another sip of coffee, "Don't worry, I'll find a way to keep Elizabeth busy so they won't have a chance to meet."
Margaret looked at him suspiciously, "What's your plan?"
Samuel smiled, "I'll make sure Michael is yours forever, Margaret."
Margaret looked into his eyes, feeling a mix of strangeness and fear.
"Samuel, what are you playing at? You better not be planning to hurt Michael! I'm warning you, don't harm him! Otherwise, I'll never forgive you! I like Michael, but I want him to be safe! Even if I can never be with him!" Margaret emphasized.
Samuel ignored her warning and finished his coffee, "That's up to you."
He stood up, walked over to Margaret, gently patted her shoulder, and left the coffee shop.
Margaret sat there, lost in thought.
At that moment, Michael, who was already lying on the second floor of the Thomas Villa recovering, suddenly sneezed.
Mary, sitting on the sofa next to him, blabbered, "Michael! Look at you! Your pneumonia isn't healed, and your leg's still messed up. How can you be running around like this? You were out all day, how much energy did you burn? Didn't the doctor tell you to rest and not overdo it?"
Michael, leaning against the headboard with his eyes half-closed, sighed, "Mom, I know. Call the doctor to change my dressing. It's getting late, I'll have the driver take you back to the old mansion. You should get some rest."
Mary was speechless.
She stormed downstairs and called the doctor to come up and change Michael's dressing.
Then she left the main villa and got into the car.
The driver asked, "Shall we head out now, Mrs. Thomas?"
Mrs. Thomas, with a cold tone, demanded, "Take me to where Michael went today."
