Chapter 548 Suicide

Michael thought to himself, it would be fine if Gerald couldn't find anything, but if he started investigating Nolan, he would have to find a way to protect Nolan.

There wasn't much commotion at Victor's place. Gerald must have temporarily sealed off the news.

Michael didn't make a fuss. Since Gerald hadn't announced Victor's death, he naturally couldn't go there and walk into a trap.

He walked into Cordelia's bedroom, which was quiet. Cordelia was sleeping soundly.

Michael quietly exited the room and went downstairs.

The bodyguard was waiting in the living room. Seeing Michael come down, he approached him, "Mr. Thomas."

Michael instructed, "Cordelia's injury is causing her pain, and we don't have any painkillers here. Have the driver go buy some immediately."

The bodyguard nodded and left.

Michael sat on the sofa and lit a cigarette. He needed to know Gerald's current arrangements and whether he had already sealed off the entire castle.

Soon, the bodyguard returned with the driver to the living room.

"Mr. Thomas, Mr. Murphy's bodyguards have closed the castle gates. They said Mr. Murphy ordered that no one is allowed to enter or leave the castle."

Michael extinguished his cigarette and stood up.

"Alright, you all can go rest now. It's almost dawn."

Since Gerald had ordered the castle to be sealed off, it meant he was suspicious about Victor's death.

Fortunately, Nolan was already safely back in Aurora Bay. Otherwise, Michael would be even more worried about him now.

The bodyguard and driver left the living room.

Michael was about to turn and go upstairs when he heard hurried footsteps on the stairs.

The next moment, Cordelia stood in front of him, her face covered in tears.

"Michael! Did you hear? Victor is dead!"

Cordelia grabbed Michael's arm, looking up at him.

Michael frowned slightly and sighed softly. He gently put her hand down and patted her shoulder, "Go upstairs and change your clothes. I'll go with you to see him."

Cordelia stopped crying, "Michael, you don't seem surprised by Victor's death? Did Dad call you too?"

Michael shook his head, "No. I just heard some commotion from Victor's place and guessed something had happened."

Cordelia wiped her tears and whispered, "I see. I didn't hear anything at all. Michael, please wait here for me."

A maid helped her upstairs to change clothes.

Michael stood downstairs waiting for Cordelia and lit another cigarette. He was thinking of a plan.

Michael and Cordelia arrived at Victor's place. Gerald was waiting for them on the sofa in the hall.

In the center of the hall lay a body covered with a white cloth.

Gerald looked like he had aged ten years overnight. He raised his hand towards Cordelia, "Cordelia, go see Victor one last time."

Cordelia let go of Michael's arm and stumbled towards the body, crying out, "Victor!"

She didn't dare to lift the white cloth to see Victor's face.

Cordelia looked up at Gerald, "Dad, how did Victor die? How could it be so sudden?"

Gerald's voice was filled with age and fatigue, "Victor died of acute alcohol poisoning. He couldn't be saved."

Cordelia frowned and cried softly, "Victor, you fool! You know you can't handle alcohol, why did you..."

She glanced at the crowd and continued to sob quietly, "You left Emma and the kid, how lonely they will be!"

Emma's body trembled slightly at these words. She held her daughter tightly and quickly glanced at the butler, Everett, before looking away.

Michael stood in front of Gerald and spoke calmly, "Gerald, with so many people here, would Victor like this?"

Gerald waved his hand, "Everyone, leave."

He looked at Emma, "Emma, take the child back to your room. Don't scare her."

Emma nodded, "Yes, Dad."

Gerald continued, "Everett, you stay."

Everett was about to turn and leave but stopped at Gerald's words, standing still.

Emma paused while carrying her daughter upstairs but didn't look back, quickly heading to her room.

The hall quickly quieted down.

Gerald called out to Everett, "Everett, come here."

Everett's face was calm as he walked forward.

Gerald suddenly stood up and kicked him in the chest.

Everett was kicked far away, lying on the ground, supporting himself with his arms, coughing up blood.

Cordelia gasped, "Dad!"

Michael immediately reached out to hold her, "Cordelia."

Gerald stood with the help of a bodyguard, his face full of anger, "Everett, haven't I and Victor treated you well?"

Everett coughed lightly, struggling to get up, and crawled to Gerald's feet, "Mr. Murphy and Mrs. Murphy have treated me very well."

Gerald kicked his shoulder again, "Is this how you repay me? By killing my only son!"

Everett looked up in fear, "Mr. Gerald Murphy, what are you saying? How could I possibly kill Mr. Victor Murphy?"

Gerald sneered, "That sobering soup was made by Emma herself, right?"

Everett nodded in confusion, "Yes, Mr. Murphy."

"After she made it, who else handled that soup?"

Everett frowned, "Mr. Murphy, I don't know."

Gerald stared at him, his eyes blazing, "Emma personally brought that soup to Victor. During that time, only you entered their private kitchen!"

Everett looked up in disbelief, "Mr. Murphy, how do you know this?"

Gerald gritted his teeth, "Emma told me herself! She didn't trust anyone else, so she made the soup herself. The maid guarded the door. During that time, only you entered the kitchen! I asked the doctor, Victor's death seemed like alcohol poisoning, but it was actually more like strychnine poisoning!"

Everett's eyes showed a moment of shock when he heard Emma's name, but then he seemed to realize something, and his expression turned resolute.

Gerald stared at him, "Everett! I don't understand why you hate Victor so much. Is it because he hit you years ago? Do you resent him so much that you wanted him dead?"

Everett bowed his head to the ground, "Mr. Murphy, I am grateful for your kindness in taking me in, but over the years, I couldn't bear Victor's constant abuse and humiliation. I have failed you and betrayed your trust. I can only atone with my death."

After saying this, Everett quickly got up and rushed to the cabinet by the entrance, pulling open a drawer.

The bodyguards in the hall immediately stood in front of Gerald.

Everett took out a handgun from the drawer and pointed it at his own temple.

Cordelia covered her mouth in fear and shrank into Michael's arms.

Michael reached out and covered her ears.

Everett gave him a deep look.

Michael looked at him and nodded slightly.

Everett immediately pulled the trigger. After a muffled gunshot, he fell to the ground.
