Chapter 255 I'll Wait
Elizabeth nudged Sarah's hand off her waist and chuckled.
"You're getting more and more dramatic," she teased.
Both of them were in their wedding dresses, holding hands as they walked out.
Sarah handed her phone to the store clerk. "Could you snap a photo of us?"
After the picture was taken, Elizabeth rushed to change out of her wedding dress.
But Sarah stopped her. "Why are you in such a hurry to take it off?"
Elizabeth replied, "Sarah, you're the one getting married, not me!"
Sarah insisted on taking a few more selfies with Elizabeth before letting her go.
While Sarah tried on more dresses, Elizabeth changed out of her wedding dress and wandered around the store, looking for something to wear to the banquet.
Suddenly, her expression darkened when she spotted Jennifer, who was arm-in-arm with a man, picking out dresses.
Maybe sensing Elizabeth's stare, Jennifer turned her head sharply.
"Well, look who it is—the ex-daughter-in-law the Thomas family didn't want," Jennifer sneered.
Elizabeth shot back, "Jennifer, no need for the sarcasm. Now that you're back, I won't make things easy for you."
Jennifer scoffed. "Elizabeth, you're so full of yourself. Who's gonna come out on top is still up in the air! I've got way more resources than you. Michael gave Calla a ton of money, and she invested it all in my company. And he'll give her even more in the future. I'll use the money from the man you once loved to bring you down. Just thinking about it makes me so happy."
Elizabeth glared at her.
Jennifer, with a cold look, said, "Elizabeth, our hatred runs too deep. Just wait—I'll make sure you suffer endlessly."
Elizabeth retorted, "I can't wait to see you and your daughter reunite in hell!"
Hearing this, Jennifer frowned and swung her arm at Elizabeth. Toby quickly pulled her away before things got physical.
Elizabeth's mood was completely ruined.
Sarah came out of the fitting room and noticed Elizabeth's sour expression.
"What's wrong, Elizabeth?" she asked.
"I saw Jennifer," Elizabeth replied.
Sarah immediately got riled up. "That nasty old woman? Did she mess with you again? Where is she? I'll go give her a piece of my mind!"
She lifted her skirt and started shouting in the store, "Jennifer! Get out here!"
Elizabeth quickly covered her mouth. "Alright, Sarah, today is your day to try on wedding dresses. Don't let her ruin it. Let's go get something good to eat."
Sarah patted Elizabeth's shoulder. "Okay. Let's forget about all the bad stuff! Today, it's my treat. Now let's go pick up the kids."
She drove Elizabeth and the kids to a restaurant for dinner.
The restaurant was in the middle of a pedestrian street. As they walked, they saw a cake shop nearby.
Pearl stood outside the window, staring at the cakes, not wanting to leave.
Elizabeth said, "Pearl and Nolan's birthdays are coming up."
Sarah asked, "Are you planning to celebrate at home or at a hotel? Make sure to invite me!"
Elizabeth hesitated. "I don't want to make a big deal out of it. What if he finds out?"
Sarah took Elizabeth's hand. "Then let's celebrate their birthdays today! Let's buy a cake!"
Pearl jumped up happily at the mention of buying a cake.
The four of them bought a cake and went to the restaurant.
Sarah asked the cake shop owner for two birthday hats and put them on Pearl and Nolan.
"Happy early birthday! I'll get your birthday gifts when we get back!" Sarah said.
Pearl grinned and said, "Thanks, Sarah."
Sarah added, "And guess what? I'm getting married next month. How about you be the flower girl and ring bearer at my wedding? Pearl, you'll wear a beautiful dress, and Nolan, you'll rock a cool little suit."
Pearl's smile grew even wider. "Awesome! I'd love to!"
Sarah turned to Nolan. "What about you, Nolan?"
Nolan nodded coolly. "Sure."
Sarah clasped her hands together. "Thank you!"
The food arrived, and they dug in, enjoying their meal.
Upstairs in the restaurant, Michael pulled back the curtain by his table and looked down at the first-floor window.
Sure enough, it was Elizabeth and her kids.
He had vaguely heard her voice earlier.
Pearl and Nolan were both wearing birthday hats, and there was a cake on the table.
Was today their birthday? Were both kids' birthdays on the same day?
But he distinctly remembered that Nolan's school records listed his birthday as April 13th.
How could it be today?
Thinking of this, Michael frowned deeply.
At the table, his business partners were still chatting.
He opened his social media and saw that Sarah had just posted a photo.
She and Elizabeth were wearing wedding dresses, smiling brightly.
When Elizabeth married Michael, he was in a coma. So, he had never seen her in a wedding dress. She looked so enchanting and charming, just as he had imagined.
He looked back at her spot on the first floor, but they were already gone.
Did they eat that quickly?
Outside the restaurant, Elizabeth apologized to Pearl and Nolan. "We're taking the food home to eat. Are you okay with that?"
Pearl shook her head. "It's fine."
She then whispered in Elizabeth's ear, "I saw the scumbag dad. I know you are avoiding him."
Sarah was indignant. "He is really haunting us. We can't even have a meal in peace."
Elizabeth sighed. "Sorry, Sarah. I wanted to have a nice meal with you."
Sarah replied, "It's all that jerk Michael's fault! I know you're worried he'll find out that Pearl and Nolan share the same birthday. It's okay, I understand."
Elizabeth said, "I didn't want to celebrate their birthday on April 13th, just in case he found out and got suspicious. Who knew there would be risks in celebrating early too."
Sarah said, "Who would have thought he'd come to this restaurant too? Let's go to your place. We can continue cutting the cake. Now, Dean gets to have some cake too."
With that, they left together.
Upstairs, Michael looked at the photo of Elizabeth in a wedding dress, feeling restless.
At that moment, he really wanted to see her.
So he sent her a message: [Come to the estate tonight. I'll be waiting for you.]
After sending the message, he kept checking his phone, but she didn't reply at all.
He guessed she was probably with the kids and didn't have time to check her phone.
He stood up, causing everyone in the private room to stop talking and look at him in surprise. Then he said, "You all carry on. I'm leaving."
He then left in large strides.
The driver brought the car around, and Michael got in, calling Elizabeth.
"Elizabeth, why didn't you reply to my message?" Michael asked.
Elizabeth stammered, "I didn't see it."
"Didn't see it or pretending not to see it?" Michael asked again.
She seemed annoyed and replied, "I'm busy!"
"Fine, I'll wait until you're free." With that, he hung up.
Elizabeth looked at the ended call screen, unable to believe he let her off so easily.
That was so out of character for him.
