Chapter 433 Tightly Embrace
Elizabeth was driving when her phone rang. It was Quinn.
"Hey, Dr. Jones, it's Quinn."
Elizabeth was pleasantly surprised to hear from Quinn out of the blue.
"Quinn! How are you feeling after the surgery?"
"Dr. Jones, I need to see you."
Elizabeth pulled over to the side of the road.
"Quinn, your next surgery isn't for a while."
"I know, Dr. Jones. I just need to see you. I can tell you care about me. I'm not doing so great right now. The people around me... they don't seem to like me much. I didn't realize it before."
Elizabeth was a bit taken aback. "I've met your father. He invited me to perform your surgery. He seems to care about you a lot, right?"
Quinn hesitated. "My father... he... I don't know. Dr. Jones, can you come see me next time you're in Valoria?"
"Of course! I can check on your recovery too."
Quinn abruptly hung up.
When Elizabeth tried calling back, she got a message saying the phone was turned off.
She found it odd. Quinn wouldn't call her out of the blue unless something was wrong.
Elizabeth decided to call Quinn's father, Jesse.
"Mr. Reed, this is Elizabeth, Quinn's surgeon."
To her surprise, Jesse's attitude had completely changed since before the surgery.
"Dr. Jones, I know who you are. What do you want? I remember paying all the surgery fees. Is there something else?"
His tone was harsh and rude, making Elizabeth uncomfortable.
"Mr. Reed, I wanted to check on Quinn's post-surgery recovery."
"That's none of your concern, Dr. Jones. We'll contact you when it's time for the second surgery. There's no need for any other contact."
"Dr. Jones, I hope you understand that you're just Quinn's surgeon, responsible for his treatment. Other matters are the Reed family's private business. Please don't interfere."
Jesse hung up.
Elizabeth was baffled. It seemed like Jesse was hiding something. It felt like the Reed family had a secret they didn't want her to know.
Michael returned to the villa, and Clio opened the door for him, taking his coat.
"Sir, did you hear that Mr. William Thomas is planning to sell the old mansion?"
Michael was taken aback. "Really?"
Clio nodded. "Yes. I got a call from an old friend today. She said Mr. William Thomas has dismissed all the staff and drivers at the old mansion and plans to sell it. The listing is already up on the real estate websites. It seems he's in desperate need of money."
Michael asked, "Clio, are you suggesting I give him some money?"
Clio was a bit agitated. "Of course not! Mrs. Mary Thomas was his biological mother, and they still managed to harm her. I don't want anything to do with that family."
"Sir, I just think the old mansion is the foundation of the Thomas family. If you buy it, even if you don't live there, it's better than it falling into someone else's hands."
Michael said quietly, "They conspired to kill my mother, but I killed my father. I'm no better than them. It seems the Thomas family is full of bad people. That old mansion isn't a place worth remembering."
Clio quickly looked around and leaned closer to Michael. "Sir, that's different. You did it to save Ms. Eloise Thomas. They killed Mrs. Mary Thomas to cover up their crimes. You're nothing like them. Please don't belittle yourself. They don't deserve to be compared to you."
Michael's expression softened slightly. "Clio, I'll send someone to check it out tomorrow."
Clio smiled. "Good, sir. After all, it's where you grew up. It holds many good memories."
At Whispering Pines Estates.
Pearl and Nolan's birthday was coming up, and Dean asked Elizabeth if they should throw a birthday party for the twins.
Elizabeth felt that since they didn't celebrate the twins' birthday properly last year, they should definitely do it this year.
"Elizabeth, you should start looking for a venue in the next few days."
"Okay, I'll talk to Sarah. She'll be very interested. Plus, she's great with the catering."
Elizabeth called Sarah.
"Sarah, Pearl and Nolan's birthday is coming up."
Sarah was excited. "The little ones are turning another year older! We have to celebrate properly this time! Elizabeth, I don't have much going on right now, so leave everything to me! I'll make sure it's perfect!"
Elizabeth smiled. "Alright."
Sarah added, "Don't forget to send me the guest list!"
"Got it."
As soon as Sarah hung up, David came over and wrapped his arms around her. "Honey, who were you talking to that made you so happy?"
He held her like she was a precious treasure.
Since they got back together, David never worked late anymore. He would leave the office quickly every day to come home and be with Sarah.
Sarah waited for him at home every evening. They had dinner together, and it felt like they were back in their dating days, their eyes filled with love for each other.
Sarah nestled in his arms. "Of course, it was Elizabeth. Pearl and Nolan's birthday is coming up, and she's planning a party for them."
David kissed her forehead. "Oh, really? Are we invited?"
Sarah tilted her head to avoid his continued kisses and laughed. "I'm definitely going. Whether you get an invite, I don't know."
David pouted, looking very aggrieved. "Honey, aren't we supposed to go everywhere together? Would you really leave me behind? Aren't you worried I'd be lonely and sad at home by myself?"
Sarah turned around, lifted his chin, and kissed him on the lips. She smiled. "Seeing how pitiful you are, I'll plead your case with Elizabeth."
David pulled her closer, holding her tightly, kissing her lips, her chin, her neck.
His voice was low and seductive. "Honey, you've showered and finished your call. Shouldn't we get to the main event now?"
Sarah wriggled out of his arms, running away without even putting on her slippers.
She called out as she ran, "I showered because I like being clean, not for any other reason! David! What are you thinking?"
David wasn't about to let her get away so easily. He quickly got off the couch, took a long stride, and caught her, pulling her back into his arms, holding her tightly.
