Chapter 440 A Suspicious Man
Sarah usually came across as carefree, lively, and sociable, but in reality, Elizabeth was her only close friend.
Elizabeth focused, recalling something. "David, you and Sarah can track each other's phone locations, right?"
David immediately caught on. "Oh, right! I can turn on her location!"
A moment later, David called back, sounding defeated. "Sarah's really gone all out this time. She's hiding! Her phone's still at home! She didn't even take it with her!"
Elizabeth's heart raced with fear. Her biggest worry was that Sarah might harm herself.
"David, don't panic. First, go to your building's rooftop."
David was already panicking. "Elizabeth, are you saying... Sarah might..."
"We can't rule out that possibility."
"I'm heading up now!"
David's voice was choked with tears.
After hanging up, Elizabeth quickly called Michael. She couldn't worry about their ongoing cold war at this moment.
"Michael, Sarah is missing. I think she either wants to harm herself or she's gone after Margaret for revenge."
Michael listened calmly and reassured her. "Elizabeth, stay home and don't go anywhere. I'll send people to find Sarah and keep you updated."
Elizabeth felt a bit more at ease hearing his voice. "Okay. I'll wait for your news."
Though she stayed home, she couldn't sit still.
She kept calling Sarah's phone, but no one answered. Eventually, it went straight to voicemail, likely out of battery.
An hour passed, feeling like an eternity for Elizabeth. David must have felt the same.
Finally, Michael called. Elizabeth answered immediately.
"Elizabeth, we found Sarah. She's at the police station."
Elizabeth was stunned. "Is Sarah okay?"
Michael's voice was somber. "Physically, she's fine. No injuries."
Elizabeth was anxious. "What do you mean?"
"Her mental state might need some help. I think she's not in a good place right now."
"Why is she at the police station?"
"Margaret called the police. Sarah was lurking near Margaret's house and attacked her with a knife."
Elizabeth covered her mouth in shock. She had guessed it. Sarah had indeed gone after Margaret for revenge, in such a reckless way.
"What did the police say?"
"Margaret agreed to settle and won't press charges. We'll bring Sarah home."
Elizabeth sighed in relief but was still puzzled. "Why would Margaret be so kind?"
"Margaret offered it herself."
Elizabeth just wanted to see Sarah as soon as possible. "If there's nothing else, please bring Sarah back quickly."
"Will do."
Sarah arrived at Whispering Pines Estates in Michael's car.
Seeing Sarah unharmed, Elizabeth finally felt at ease. "Sarah, you scared me to death!"
Sarah replied, "Are Pearl and Nolan asleep? Keep your voice down."
She turned to David, who had rushed over. "David, can I stay with Elizabeth tonight?"
David nodded. "I'll pick you up in the morning. Sarah, get some rest and have sweet dreams. Remember, I love you always."
Sarah smiled at him.
Michael and David left. Sarah followed Elizabeth to her room.
Elizabeth started making the bed. "Sarah, how could you lie to me? We agreed you'd live well. Why did you do something so dangerous?"
Tears streamed down her face as she spoke.
Sarah noticed her tearful voice and quickly looked at her.
"Elizabeth, are you crying?"
She walked over and gently hugged her from behind.
"Elizabeth, you said I was brave, so I went to get revenge on Margaret. Honestly, I wasn't scared at first. I was just filled with anger. That anger drove me to seek revenge."
Elizabeth turned around, holding Sarah's hands as they sat on the bed.
"Sarah, that was foolish! Last time was self-defense. This time, it was premeditated assault! It's completely different! If Margaret pressed charges, you'd go to jail! David and I don't want you to ruin your life over a jerk!"
Sarah rested her head on Elizabeth's shoulder. "Elizabeth, I wasn't thinking clearly. I was like a walking corpse, filled with pain. I just wanted revenge."
"After I stabbed her, even though Margaret didn't die, I felt a sense of release. I want to truly let go now. Elizabeth, I promise I'll see a therapist tomorrow. Will you come with me?"
Elizabeth leaned on her. "Okay, I'll hand the company over to Dean. I'll go with you."
"Stay with me tonight."
"Of course. I'll protect you."
At the Thomas Villa.
Michael got out of the car and went inside.
A security guard reported to him. "Mr. Thomas, there's been a suspicious man lurking around the villa today, acting sneaky and peering inside."
Michael frowned. "Send me the surveillance footage."
"Yes, Mr. Thomas."
Before bed, Michael watched the footage on his phone. He saw the suspicious man the guard mentioned.
The man walked around the villa, looking around and trying to peer inside.
If he was a thief, he was unusually bold, standing directly under the cameras and staring at them, as if to say, "I'm here on purpose!"
Judging by his clothes, he wasn't a beggar or a poor man. Michael zoomed in on his face.
When the man's face appeared on Michael's screen, he was taken aback.
He didn't know this man, had no connection to him, yet Michael felt a strange sense of familiarity and unease.
Who was this man?
In the morning, Elizabeth had breakfast and took Sarah to drop off Nolan and Pearl at school.
Pearl cheered on the way. "It's the first time so many of you are taking me to school!"
After dropping off the kids, Elizabeth took Sarah to see a therapist.
Before entering the office, Elizabeth encouraged her.
"Sarah, don't feel ashamed about seeing a therapist. Millions of people around the world have mental health issues and need help. Just take the first step. If you feel uncomfortable, we can find another doctor."
Sarah squeezed her hand. "Elizabeth, I trust your recommendation. I believe in you."
"Okay. Go on in. I'll be right outside, waiting for you."
Sarah nodded and went in. Elizabeth sat in the waiting area, closing her eyes for a brief rest.
Since giving birth to Francis, she felt her health wasn't as good as before, often feeling tired and weak.
