Chapter 479 Old Man

Now that Sherry had shown up at his door, Matthew couldn't just ignore her.

He didn't have the guts to send Sherry to Michael.

Matthew usually didn't clean his place himself; he hired a housekeeper. But with Sherry already here, it was too late to call for help.

He led Sherry to the guest room on the second floor, opened the door, and said bluntly, "I don't usually come up here. This room hasn't been used in a while. You'll have to tidy it up yourself. If you need anything, just come downstairs and let me know. Or you can call me."

With that, he went back downstairs.

Sherry held onto her suitcase handle, looking around the room, figuring out where to start.

The guest room wasn't actually that dirty. It was spacious but simply furnished, with no decorations. She just needed to change the sheets, pillowcases, and duvet cover, clean the floor a bit, and she'd be good for the night.

As for the furniture, she could wipe it down tomorrow. She didn't have the energy or the mood for a thorough cleaning right now.

At the Thomas Villa, Elizabeth and Michael had finished packing their bags, and their tickets were booked.

Michael picked up a large bag of medications from Elizabeth's suitcase, frowning. "Elizabeth, we're going on our honeymoon, not a medical mission."

Elizabeth snatched the bag back and put it back in the suitcase. "I always bring medicine when I travel. In case of an emergency, if we can't find a pharmacy or get to a hospital in time, we can handle it."

"The bodyguards will be with us. Just bring some essentials. We can buy anything else we need when we get there. You should pack more pretty dresses for the photos."

Elizabeth couldn't help but laugh. "So, you really do want to take me on a honeymoon. I thought..."

"You thought I was just going to gather information about Eloise?"

Elizabeth looked down, embarrassed. "Well, Eloise is important to you."

"No matter how important, I can always send someone to find out. Besides, I'm actually afraid of seeing Louis. I'm scared that if I see him, he'll confirm Eloise's death. As long as I don't see him, I can keep pretending Eloise is still alive."

Elizabeth walked over and hugged him gently.

In the evening, Pearl and Nolan came home from school. Elizabeth told them about the honeymoon trip with Michael.

With Dean at the company, she had no worries there.

Susan was at home, so she wasn't worried about the kids either.

Nolan didn't say anything.

Surprisingly, Pearl didn't make a fuss about wanting to go with them.

"Mommy, Daddy, have fun. Don't worry about Nolan and me."

Elizabeth glanced at Nolan. "Nolan, you're leaving for Valoria in a few days. Have you packed everything?"

Nolan nodded. "All packed. Dean will take me."

Elizabeth felt a pang of guilt. Nolan was going abroad for school, and she was going on a honeymoon.

She pressed her lips together, unsure what to say next.

Nolan reassured her. "Mom, I've lived in Valoria before. I'll be fine. Don't worry about me. Besides, I'll have bodyguards with me."

Elizabeth looked at them with a heavy heart, then at Francis in Susan's arms.

Pearl teased her. "Mommy, don't hesitate. You finally have a chance to go out with Daddy. Don't overthink it. Mr. McGinnis promised to visit me often. And Sarah too."

Hearing Pearl mention Carter, Michael frowned but kept quiet.

After dinner, they went to bed early. They had an early flight the next morning.

In their room, Michael looked serious.

Elizabeth couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong? Regretting it? Don't want to go?"

Michael shook his head. "It's not that. Don't you think Carter's been spending too much time with Pearl?"

Elizabeth thought for a moment. "It's fine. Carter treats Pearl like a niece. Are you worried he'll steal her affection? That she won't like you as much?"

Michael frowned. "I'm not that petty. I'm just worried he might have ulterior motives."

Elizabeth looked up at him. "Okay, I understand your concern. I'll remind Pearl to be careful."

Michael kissed her forehead. "Thanks for understanding."

Elizabeth smiled. "But when Pearl grows up, if she still likes Carter and he likes her, I won't oppose their relationship."

Michael pretended to be fierce, pinching her cheek. "I won't let that guy covet my precious daughter. Pearl is beautiful and sweet. By the time she grows up, Carter will be an old man."

Elizabeth laughed, dodging his playful attack. "I'll tell Pearl's bodyguard to keep an eye on them. If anything unusual happens, they'll call us immediately."

Michael finally looked satisfied. "That's more like it."

Elizabeth made the bed. "Let's sleep. We have to get up early tomorrow."

Back at Matthew's apartment.

Sherry had finished tidying the guest room and hanging her clothes in the closet. She was sweaty and decided to take a bath.

She sank into the bathtub, sighing in relief.

After a while, she stood up, rinsed off the soap, and reached for a towel.

She didn't bother drying her hair, just wrapped the towel around her body and walked out of the bathroom.

Matthew lived on the first floor and rarely went upstairs.

Besides, she had taken over the guest room. Matthew wouldn't come up without a reason.

But things don't always go as planned.

Matthew was downstairs, thinking he might have been too cold to his new guest.

After all, Sherry was Michael's real sister. If Michael asked how he treated Sherry and she told him about today, he'd be in trouble.

The more Matthew thought about it, the more he felt he needed to make amends. Michael was his long-time friend and now his boss. He couldn't afford to be too cold to Sherry.

To make up for it, Matthew decided to check on Sherry.

The housekeeper had made chicken soup today. It was delicious, and he couldn't finish it alone.

Sherry had rushed over and spent a long time tidying up. She was probably hungry.

With that in mind, Matthew poured some soup into a bowl, put it on a tray, and headed upstairs.

As he knocked on the door, he thought about how he was always the one being served, never the one serving others.

He stood at the door, knocking several times, but Sherry didn't respond. Matthew pressed his ear to the door, hearing nothing.

He frowned, worried that something might have happened to Sherry on her first day here.

Matthew didn't hesitate any longer and pushed the door open.

Sherry had just stepped out of the bathroom, about to take off her towel and change into her pajamas.
