Chapter 150 Our Hearts Are Connected

Sarah gave Elizabeth a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "Hey, what's with the formal talk? I get what you're trying to say. Don't sweat it. I won't spill the beans about the kids' background to anyone, especially not David. Their safety is a top priority. Trust me. My lips are sealed."

Elizabeth nodded. "Thanks. Michael and I are done. We've got no ties left. Plus, he's got a new girlfriend now. I don't want him messing with our lives. I just want a peaceful life with my family."

Sarah stepped in and hugged her. "You've still got me, Elizabeth. I'm always here for you."

The next morning, sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the CEO's office at Stellar Enterprises. Michael's phone suddenly rang. He glanced at the caller ID. Seeing "Anthony" flash on the screen, he frowned.

He answered, "What is it?"

Anthony's voice was respectful. "Michael, I've been thinking all night and I need to tell you something."

Michael's voice was cold. "Go on."

Anthony swallowed, trying to hide his nerves. Dealing with Michael always made him tense. "Michael, remember that little girl who thought I was her dad? I think she's Elizabeth's daughter!"

Michael frowned. "Why bring this up now?"

Anthony continued, "Last night, I saw a photo of Elizabeth with that little girl in her office locker! There was also a little boy in the photo, about the same age as the girl! Michael, think about it, she put the photo where she can see it easily, which means it's important to her! The people in the photo must mean a lot to her!"

Michael zeroed in on the key point. "What were you doing in Elizabeth's office at night?"

Anthony hadn't expected that question. He explained, "I was planning to have dinner at a restaurant last night and ran into Elizabeth. Her company is nearby, so I went to the Jones Group with her."

Michael was deep in thought. Elizabeth always avoided him, but she was okay with Anthony, her ex who betrayed her.

After hanging up, Michael couldn't focus on work.

Besides Nolan, did Elizabeth have a daughter too?

When he watched the surveillance video at Harmony Health Hospital, the woman who looked like Elizabeth was holding two kids.

Could that woman have been Elizabeth?

Had she been lying to him all along?

Was she keeping secrets from him?

Just like the scalding incident yesterday, Calla said Elizabeth did it on purpose.

When Michael confronted Elizabeth, she admitted it right away.

But from what Michael knew about Elizabeth, she wouldn't do something like that.

Plus, if Calla was meeting her openly, why secretly record video and audio?

It was clear Calla had ulterior motives.

He trusted Elizabeth, but she was always on guard and didn't trust him.

Why was that?

He immediately called Daniel. "Daniel, I need Elizabeth's current address."

A few minutes later, Daniel walked in. "Mr. Thomas, Elizabeth is living in a single-family house in Whispering Pines Estates. Are you planning to visit her?"

Michael rubbed his temples. "We're divorced. She won't let me in."

Daniel looked confused. "Then why do you need her address?"

Michael replied, "Anthony mentioned she has a daughter. I want to see if the kid looks like her."

Daniel stepped closer. "Mr. Thomas, I have a friend at the Jones Group. He said Elizabeth's been swamped lately, working late hours. Also, they recently hired a technical director named Dean. He's quite the character—tall, handsome, funny. But..."

Daniel hesitated.

Michael raised an eyebrow. "But what? He's close with Elizabeth, right?"

Daniel was surprised. "How did you know?"

Michael said, "I've seen him."

Daniel's eyes widened.

Michael gestured for Daniel to come closer. "Daniel, dig into this Dean guy. I want to know everything—how he and Elizabeth met, how they got so close. Is he the hacker? Also, keep in touch with Emily's lab and find another top-notch doctor for Eloise. Money's not an issue."

Daniel said, "Isn't Calla the best for this?"

Michael gave him a look.

Daniel quickly responded, "I'll get right on it."

With that, he left the office.

Michael sat back, deep in thought.

Calla's hand wouldn't heal anytime soon. Even if it did, she couldn't jump into surgery right away. Plus, she seemed more complicated than she let on.

He had to be ready for anything.

Meanwhile, Sarah arrived at Whispering Pines Estates and rang the bell.

She had a bunch of toys and dolls for Pearl.

Dean opened the door.

Sarah asked, "Where's Elizabeth?"

Dean scratched his head. "Check her room. I don't know."

Sarah knocked on Elizabeth's door.

No answer.

She pushed the door open and peeked inside.

The bed was neatly made.

Elizabeth wasn't there.

Sarah stepped out. "Dean, did Elizabeth go to work this early?"

As Dean walked towards his own room, he replied, "Elizabeth's always focused on work. You should know that as her friend."

He went to his room to change and came back out.

Sarah glanced at him. He had swapped his loungewear for a light-colored casual suit, looking quite dapper.

Sarah said, "Why aren't you at work? Are you mooching off Elizabeth?"

Dean sat at the dining table, enjoying the smell of freshly brewed coffee and Nancy's home-cooked breakfast. "I'd love for Elizabeth to support me, but she already has two kids to take care of. I can't bear to add to her burden. I'm heading to work soon."

Sarah joined him for breakfast.

"You and Elizabeth don't sleep together? Separate rooms?" she asked.

Dean, with his mouth full, mumbled, "What? Are you here to check on Elizabeth or our sleeping arrangements? So what if we don't sleep together? Our hearts are connected."

He made a heart gesture with his hands.
