Chapter 33 The Woman Michael Likes

Elizabeth asked, "So, how much does he offer?"

Charles shrugged, "Only five hundred million dollars."

Even though Elizabeth was now the boss, she was still kinda clueless about the money stuff.

She hesitated, "Is that a lowball offer? Isn't The Jones Group worth way more than that?"

Charles looked like he was about to explode, "Back when the company was killin' it, five hundred mil wouldn't even cover one of our patents."

Then Charles got all serious, "But now? The company is not what it used to be. Even at five hundred mil, no one in Aurora Bay would buy it. David's offer is actually pretty sweet."

Elizabeth was puzzled, "Mr. Wilson, if David's offer is fair, why aren't we selling?"

Charles looked up, "Elizabeth, you don't get it. The Jones Group's main gig isn't just pushing new products; it's all about the Super Brain system. That was your dad's baby. It's worth way more than five hundred mil. And David? He doesn't know jack about it. He'd just screw it up."

Elizabeth was curious, "If it's so valuable, why don't we keep working on it? If it pays off, the returns would be huge."

Charles sighed, "I've thought about that. But your dad locked it with a password. Since he passed, it's just been gathering dust."

Elizabeth was taken aback.

Charles went on, "Only your dad knew the password. He didn't even tell me. He must've told you before he passed, right?"

Elizabeth shook her head, "Nope, he didn't. He was in the hospital, and there were a ton of people around. He never mentioned it."

Charles suddenly got this greedy look, "Elizabeth, your dad left the company to you, so he must've left the password with you, too. He loved you too much to leave you with a sinking ship. Think hard about what the password could be. If we crack it, we can sell the system for five hundred mil. Then, you and I can split the cash and do something better. Why stick with this dying company?"

Elizabeth frowned.

She always thought Charles was all about The Jones Group.

He didn't know the password. If he did, he would've sold the system ages ago.

Charles was just as shady as Jennifer's brother.

"Mr. Wilson, I don't have any clues about the password right now. I'll think about it when I get home," Elizabeth said.

"Alright, I'll be waiting," Charles grinned as he walked her to the door.

After leaving The Jones Group, Elizabeth grabbed a cab back to Nancy's place.

Nancy was tidying up the room.

Elizabeth walked in and kicked off her shoes.

She hugged Nancy from behind.

Nancy laughed, "Elizabeth, you're still the same as when you were a kid. When something's bugging you, you always hug me from behind."

Nancy turned around and looked at her kindly, "Elizabeth, what's up?"

Elizabeth was feeling down, "Mom, do you think Dad really loved me?"

"Of course, sweetie. Even after the divorce, he still loved you," Nancy smiled.

Elizabeth's nose twitched, "I swung by The Jones Group today. Chatted with Mr. Wilson. He said Dad didn't want me drowning in debt. Left me some super valuable system."

Nancy pulled her into a gentle hug, like she was a little kid again.

Elizabeth decided it was time to make Margaret pay.

On Monday, Elizabeth strolled into the reception of Stellar Enterprises, "Hey, I'm here to see Margaret."

"Miss, do you have an appointment?" the receptionist asked.

"Nope, just tell her Elizabeth's here, please. "

The receptionist looked skeptical but made the call.

Sure enough, Margaret showed up soon after.

Elizabeth was lounging on a couch in the lobby, sipping a drink like she owned the place.

Margaret, all dolled up with her perfect makeup and high heels, spotted Elizabeth as soon as she stepped out of the elevator.

She plopped down on the couch across from Elizabeth.

Margaret smirked, "You bounce back quick for someone who just had an abortion. Looking pretty good."

Elizabeth shot back, "Thanks for the concern."

Margaret cut to the chase, "So, what brings you here? To blame me?"

Elizabeth sneered, "Margaret, don't you wanna marry Michael? I'm here to give you a shot."

Margaret raised an eyebrow, "Oh? Feeling generous? Don't you hate me for making you lose your kid?"

Elizabeth shrugged, "I've made peace with it. I'm still young, I can still have kids."

She gave Margaret a pointed look, "After all, I still have my uterus, right?"

Margaret's face twisted in anger.

Seeing her reaction, Elizabeth felt a rush of satisfaction, "Margaret, I should thank you. You made me sure about divorcing Michael. You two are perfect for each other."

Margaret smiled slyly, "You should've figured that out ages ago."

Elizabeth scoffed, "How could I? You haven't been trying hard enough to get Michael to marry you. You've been with him forever. Has he even slept with you? You're so useless."

Margaret glared, speechless.

In fact, she and Michael had never slept together. But Elizabeth had.

Margaret snapped, "Elizabeth, what do you really want?"

"I told you, I'm here to give you a chance. Don't you wanna get closer to Michael? I can help," Elizabeth said.

Margaret eyed her suspiciously, "Elizabeth, are you really that nice?"

"I just wanna get divorced ASAP. The sooner you two hook up, the sooner I'm free."

"Michael doesn't like you either. How can you help me?" Margaret asked.

Elizabeth smirked, "True, Michael doesn't like me. But he did sleep with me."

Margaret fumed, "You!"

Elizabeth held up a hand, "Wait! Hear me out. Ever worn a cute pink dress? Especially in front of Michael?"

Margaret scoffed, "I'd never wear something so childish."

Elizabeth grinned, "Didn't you ask what kind of woman Michael likes? He likes girls who look cute and wear pink dresses. And you, you're not that type at all."

Elizabeth finished and shook her head at Margaret.

She stood up, "I've said my piece. Believe it or not."

With that, she walked out without looking back, leaving Margaret to stew in her thoughts.
