Chapter 170 He's Anxious

Matthew was completely bewildered. He had been playing the role of Calla's shopping assistant, and now he was exhausted, hungry, and thirsty.

They had already ordered their food, but Calla left without eating. Wan't this just messing with him?

Matthew was starting to get annoyed. "I've been out for ages. I need to get back to work."

Without waiting for Calla to say anything, he headed straight for the car.

Calla opened her mouth to speak but decided against it.

She had scored big on this shopping trip.

Not only did she make Michael spend a ton of money, but she also stumbled upon Elizabeth's secret.

Calla found a quiet spot and called her dad, who was still in Valoria. "Dad, it's me. I need you to dig into something. It's about Michael's ex-wife Elizabeth and the two kids she adopted. I need all the adoption details on those kids. If that's not possible, then I need all the info from when she gave birth."

Her father responded without asking for further details, "Got it. I'll start right away."

Calla glanced back at the restaurant and flashed a sly smile. She thought, 'Elizabeth, your luck's run out. I'm not letting you take Michael away. Everything you took from him, I'm getting back piece by piece.'

She went directly back to the Moonlit Grove while Matthew made his way back to Stellar Enterprises.

He took the elevator straight up to the CEO's office.

He barged in and flopped down on the sofa, complaining, "Michael, your new girlfriend Calla is something else. I shopped with her forever and bought a ton of stuff. I didn't have to pay, but I was the one lugging everything around, store after store. I was tired, hungry, hot, and thirsty. She wouldn't even let me eat, not even a sip of water."

Michael frowned. "Why wouldn't she let you eat? Was it not mealtime yet?"

Matthew pouted. "Who knows what she was thinking? We were already in a restaurant. She had already ordered. The waiter even brought out the dishes. But she gave me a look signaling us to leave! She didn't eat either. So much food, and we didn't touch a bite!"

"I don't even know if she went back to pay the bill. But I don't care. Calla is weird. I don't get her. Michael, be careful when you're with her. Anyway, I'm not going to accompany her anymore. Looking back, all the women you've been with—Margaret was the most unreasonable." he pointed to his head. "And Calla is just inexplicable and hard to please. After thinking it over, I realized Elizabeth was the best match for you. Too bad you divorced her."

Michael looked at him. "I told you, you're too idle. Why don't you get back to work? How long do you plan to hang around here?"

Matthew reluctantly stood up. "After being Calla's free labor for so long, you don't even give me a reward. I'm really disappointed. I'm leaving. You don't need to see me out."

He left the CEO's office.

Michael only looked up after hearing the door close. He shook his head and got back to work.

Every time Calla bought something, every charge on his card, Michael got a notification on his phone.

He wasn't too worried about Calla blowing through his money.

Those small amounts didn't bother him.

As for why Calla was suddenly on a shopping spree, Michael didn't really care to figure it out.

He put down the document he was holding and couldn't help but think about Elizabeth's birthday.

He quickly called Daniel, "Daniel, find out which hotel and banquet hall Elizabeth's birthday party is booked at, and the date and time. Get back to me ASAP."

Daniel replied, "Got it. I'll get on it."

Five minutes later, Daniel called back with the info Michael wanted.

The birthday party was set for Friday night at the Emerald Hall of the Celestial Garden Hotel, the biggest banquet hall there.

Since Elizabeth booked the Emerald Hall, it meant there would be a lot of guests.

Michael found it odd that, with the party date so close, he hadn't received an invite from her.

He immediately called the internal line and summoned Matthew and Daniel back to his office.

Once they were seated, Michael looked at them and asked, "Have you guys received invitations to Elizabeth's birthday party?"

Matthew and Daniel both shook their heads.

Michael seemed to let out a small sigh of relief. "Looks like I'm not the only one who didn't get an invite. It's so close to the date; has she not started inviting guests yet? Is there still time to send out invitations?"

Matthew and Daniel exchanged glances.

"What does this mean? Does Michael really want to go to Elizabeth's birthday party? Isn't Elizabeth his ex-wife? Isn't he worried about the awkwardness?"

"The key issue is, he didn't get an invite! Elizabeth didn't invite him! Elizabeth is amazing! She shouldn't invite him! He cheated on her!"

"Get this straight, we didn't get invites either! Could it be that Elizabeth considers us enemies too?"

"No way, right? I don't think Elizabeth is that petty."

"We didn't directly offend her, but since we're Michael's friends, Elizabeth is mad at him. How could she invite us and not Michael? That would be a blatant slap in his face."

"But this is also a slap in Michael's face!"

They turned back to look at Michael in unison.

Michael, with his arms crossed, leaned back in his chair, coldly watching their silent exchange. "I've known you two for so long, and I never knew you could do ventriloquism. Is there something I shouldn't know?"

Daniel quickly explained, "Mr. Thomas, it's not like that. We are just trying to figure out the situation."

Matthew said, "Michael, are you anxious? If you are, why don't you just call Elizabeth and ask her why she didn't send you an invite for her birthday?"

Daniel tugged at Matthew's sleeve.

Thinking about this, Michael, feeling depressed, ordered, "Daniel, I don't care what method you use, find out why we haven't received invitations."
