Chapter 224 Planning to Get Married
Clio quickly shook her head, dismissing the thought.
'No way, no way,' Clio thought. 'Michael doesn't have kids. He can't have kids out there. He hates kids, especially his own.'
Eloise heard the noise and walked over.
She saw Nolan standing outside the door and was super surprised.
She never expected Nolan to come looking for her.
She walked over, took Nolan's hand, and led him inside. "Nolan, I'm so happy you came to see me."
Nolan stood still, and Eloise looked at him, puzzled. He reached out his right hand, holding a small box, and handed it to her.
Eloise opened it and saw colorful paper cranes lying inside.
Her eyes lit up with joy. "Nolan, did you give this to me?"
She didn't expect Nolan to come just to give her a gift.
Nolan said, "Pearl and I folded these together. They're for you. Hope you like them."
Eloise nodded enthusiastically. "I love them. Thank you, and Pearl."
She couldn't stop smiling.
Nolan glanced at her and then said, "I've given you the gift, so I'll go now."
After saying this, Nolan ran off.
He had always ignored Eloise, and suddenly being so enthusiastic today made him feel a bit uneasy.
After Nolan left, Clio closed the door again.
Eloise was still admiring the paper cranes Nolan had given her. "Clio, look at these paper cranes, they're so beautiful. Do you know how to fold them? Can you teach me?"
Clio asked Eloise, "Ms. Thomas, that little boy who was just here, he's Elizabeth's son, right?"
Eloise nodded. "Yes, Elizabeth is his mom. Why?"
Clio said, "Don't you think he looks a lot like your brother?"
Eloise said, "I noticed that a long time ago."
Clio said, "He might be your nephew."
Eloise was confused. "What's a nephew?"
"A nephew is your brother's son," Clio replied.
Eloise asked, "Then what am I to him?"
Clio said, "You call him by his name, and he calls you 'Aunt Eloise.'"
Eloise said, "I'm Nolan's aunt? That's amazing!"
Clio nervously told Eloise, "Ms. Thomas, we can only talk about this topic when it's just the two of us. Don't mention it in front of your brother."
Eloise seemed to understand. "Because Michael doesn't like Nolan, right?"
Clio said, "Mr. Thomas doesn't just dislike Nolan; he isn't really into kids at all."
Eloise said, "Okay. I won't say anything."
Over the weekend, Sarah came to Whispering Pines Estates, where Nancy had prepared a table full of dishes.
Sarah smiled with her eyes squinting. "Mrs. Jones, you're so good to me. Did you know I've been craving your cooking?" Sarah exclaimed.
Nancy laughed. "If you like my cooking, come over often. I don't have much to do at home anyway. I just like cooking and doing housework."
Sarah nodded with a smile. "That's great! No problem at all. I'll bring David over to eat. We always argue about who has to cook."
Nancy heard her mention David and asked, "Sarah, you and David are getting married soon, right?"
Sarah nodded. "Yes. I came over this time to tell Elizabeth about it. On my wedding day, I want Elizabeth to be my bridesmaid. Nolan and Pearl will be my flower children. Just thinking about those two beautiful kids at my wedding makes me happy!"
Elizabeth came out with a fruit platter and, hearing this, replied with a smile, "I'm already a mother of two, how can I be your bridesmaid?"
Sarah grabbed Elizabeth's arm. "It's my wedding, so I get to decide. We promised each other ages ago that no matter where we were, we'd come back to be each other's bridesmaids! You can't break that promise!"
Elizabeth nodded. "Alright, as long as you don't mind me."
Sarah grinned. "How could I mind? You're stunning; no one is more beautiful than you!"
Dean walked in, sniffing the air. "It smells amazing! Nancy, what delicious food have you made?"
He walked to the table and grabbed a piece of sausage, popping it into his mouth.
Elizabeth glared at him. "You just came back from outside. Did you wash your hands?"
Dean smiled, chewing. "I'm going."
Everyone gathered around the table.
Nancy said, "Elizabeth, after Christmas, I want to go back to my hometown. Your uncle wanted me to come back for Christmas, but I didn't want to spend the holiday with that family. You and the kids are here; how could I go? But when your grandmother passed away, you and I were abroad, and your uncle didn't tell me. I always feel guilty for not being by her side in her final moments. This time, I want to go back, pay my respects, and talk to her."
Elizabeth said, "Mom, I'll go with you."
Nancy quickly refused. "No need. You stay here with the kids. That family treated you so badly, so you don't need to see them. You and Dean can have a good holiday with the kids. I'll go alone."
Elizabeth replied, "Alright then."
She really didn't want to see her aunt's snobbish face.
Everyone continued eating.
After dinner, Nancy went to the kitchen to clean up, while Elizabeth and Sarah sat outside chatting. Meanwhile, Dean folded paper cranes with Pearl and Nolan.
Suddenly, Sarah shouted, "It's snowing!"
Pearl and Nolan ran to the window to look at the snow outside.
Pearl said, "Nolan, I really want to play in the snow!"
Elizabeth also stood by the window and said, "Pearl, it's snowing quite heavily now. Let's wait until it stops, okay?"
She stood by the window, thinking about four years ago.
On that snowy day, Michael and she stood in the snow as he smiled at her so gently. At that moment, they seemed so in love.
But in Michael's heart, he always had feelings for Eloise.
Even if he gave Elizabeth expensive jewelry and beautiful rings, none of it could compare to Eloise's place in his heart.
Elizabeth sighed softly and sat back down.
At the Thomas family villa, Michael stood by the window, watching the snowflakes fall from the sky.
He thought of Elizabeth and that snowy day four years ago. She had rejected the ring he had carefully prepared for her and chose to leave him that winter. She would never know the pain, reluctance, sadness, and sorrow he felt.
But he couldn't follow Elizabeth. With Eloise still in the country, his eternal concern, he couldn't abandon her.
He had to cure Eloise.
So far, the private detective hadn't found Emily's final and most important disciple, so Michael could only pin his hopes on Calla.
Maybe he would marry Calla, so she could focus on treating Eloise.
Michael opened the wardrobe and found the scarf Elizabeth had given him.
This was probably the only gift he had received from Elizabeth.
He unfolded it and slowly wrapped it around his neck.
It was very warm.
He gently stroked it, imagining Elizabeth's serious expression when she knitted the scarf for him.
