Chapter 123 How Cruel His Methods Are
William nodded at Michael's words, "Yeah, even Mom and I couldn't see her at the academy, let alone outsiders. This is really tricky. Where's Eloise now? Is she okay? I'm worried sick."
Michael stood up. "My people are still searching. They'll let me know right away if they find anything."
Michael's eyes suddenly turned deadly, like he was ready to kill someone. "If I find out who took Eloise and hurt her, they're gonna wish they were never born!"
With that, Michael stormed out of the old mansion with his bodyguards.
William watched as he got into the car and drove off.
Once he was sure Michael had really left, William turned back into the living room and plopped down on the couch.
He let out a big sigh of relief, wiped imaginary sweat from his forehead, and muttered, "Finally, Michael's gone."
Anthony came out of his room and into the living room, eyes searching as he looked towards the door. He sat next to William, grabbing his arm and asked nervously, "Dad, Michael's really gone, right? Are you sure he's not here anymore?"
Seeing Anthony beside him, William kicked him in the shin fiercely.
William snapped, "You're always causing trouble for me! Leaving me to clean up your mess! When are you gonna grow up?"
Anthony clutched his shin in pain and yelled, "Dad! Why'd you kick me again? What did I do now? I told you, it was a misunderstanding! Even Michael said it wasn't my fault! How is this my problem? I'm a victim too. I can't stand living here anymore!"
Hearing this, William got even angrier. He picked up his shoe and raised it to hit Anthony.
Seeing William truly lose his temper, Anthony bolted up the stairs, shouting, "Mom! Help!"
Karen came down from upstairs, shielding Anthony behind her, and yelled at William, "What are you doing now? Anthony's already upset after being scolded by Michael, and now you want to hit him?"
Karen gave Anthony a look, and he quickly ran back to his room, slamming the door shut.
Seeing Karen, William stopped talking and angrily sat back down in the living room.
Karen slowly walked over and sat on the couch.
William asked her, "Where were you when Michael came over?"
Karen replied, "I saw him storm into the living room from upstairs. I quickly went back to the room to call Mom. Seeing him like that, I knew he was here to cause trouble. Who knows what Anthony did to provoke Michael this time. He was definitely here to settle scores with Anthony. Did you see those two bodyguards with him? They looked so strong. If they had acted, would Anthony still be alive? We only have one child, Anthony. I didn't care if it was his fault or not; I just wanted to call Mom over to keep him safe. Anyway, you were here, so I didn't need to show up."
William nodded in agreement. "That was pretty calm of you. I didn't think of that."
Karen shot back sarcastically, "Of course you didn't. You always see Michael as your brother. How could you guard against him? Even if he beat Anthony to death, you wouldn't say a word."
William leaned back on the couch and sighed deeply, "It's not that bad. After all, Anthony is my own son."
William sighed again. "When will Anthony ever grow up? I can't protect him forever. What will he do when we're gone? He'll either starve or be bullied to death by Michael. Michael only spares Anthony because of me and Mom. The way he treats Anthony, he never sees him as his nephew. If Anthony ever really crosses him, he won't show any mercy! Over the years, I've seen through Michael. Even though we're brothers, he has no familial affection for me. He is cold-hearted in nature. Besides Eloise, I've never seen him care about anyone, not even me or Mom. Just wait and see; when he finds out who took Eloise, you'll see how cruel he can be."
Karen, sitting on the couch, suddenly felt a chill. She wrapped her shawl tighter around herself and went upstairs.
William was left alone, sitting on the couch, deep in thought.
Whispering Pines Estates.
After dinner, Nolan and Pearl went back to their rooms on the second floor.
Pearl came to find Nolan. She hugged his arm and looked up, asking, "Nolan, do you miss Mom?"
Nolan nodded lightly. "Yeah."
Pearl's eyes lit up. "Let's go find Mom, okay? You know where she is, right?"
Nolan nodded again.
Pearl excitedly hugged Nolan's arm and whispered in his ear, "Quick, Nolan, find out where Mom is. Let's go find her. I haven't seen her in so long. I miss her so much I could cry."
After some quick work on the computer, Nolan found Elizabeth's phone location, showing she was currently at Harmony Health Hospital.
Nolan and Pearl exchanged a look and then quickly went downstairs.
Before leaving, Pearl called out to the kitchen, "Grandma, Nolan and I are going out to play for a bit. We'll be back soon."
By the time Nancy responded with agreement, telling them to stay safe, they were already far away.
Harmony Health Hospital's Special Surgery Room.
Elizabeth finally finished the surgery on Eloise. She breathed a sigh of relief and said to the assisting nurse, "The surgery is done. Thank you for your hard work."
The nurse smiled at her through the mask and turned to leave the operating room.
Elizabeth checked Eloise's overall condition again. All indicators were stable.
