Chapter 168 He Still Can't Forget Her
She wondered when she'd be able to buy whatever jewelry she wanted without a second thought.
If her plan worked out and she married Michael, becoming the wife of the richest guy in Aurora Bay, she'd have everything she ever wanted. She could buy anything without a care in the world.
So, anyone who got in her way of marrying into the Thomas Family, she'd deal with them, no mercy.
Suddenly, she stopped in front of a counter.
She pointed to a crystal box locked in the counter and waved the clerk over. "Take out that diamond brooch for me. I want to check it out."
The brooch, with its platinum base and big, whole-cut diamond, sparkled with a bunch of smaller diamonds, looking super expensive at first glance.
Under the counter's light, the diamonds shone like stars in the night sky.
The brooch lay on a black velvet base, looking so elegant. It was impossible to look away.
Calla didn't plan to buy it right then.
Even though she'd bought a lot of stuff out of spite, she still had some sense.
She didn't want Michael to think she was a reckless spender.
If he thought that, he'd think she was just after his money.
Calla wasn't that dumb. She was determined to win Michael over.
She'd find a way, without rushing things.
Just as she was excited to try on the diamond brooch, the clerk, who had been smiling at her, now shook her head apologetically. "Sorry, ma'am, this brooch is custom-made. The customer already paid for it but hasn't picked it up yet. It's temporarily stored here."
Then the jewelry store manager walked over.
He saw Matthew and greeted him with a smile. "Mr. Anderson, are you here with your girlfriend? It's rare to see you out with someone."
Matthew shook his head. "No."
He pointed to Calla and said, "This is Michael's girlfriend. I'm just here to help her carry stuff and pay."
The manager looked at Calla and smiled at Matthew. "Is that so? This is Mr. Thomas' girlfriend? What a coincidence. This brooch was custom-designed by him a while ago."
The manager said to the clerk, "This is Mr. Thomas' girlfriend. He probably custom-made this brooch for her. Take it out and let her try it on."
The manager gave Calla a slight bow and smiled. "Could it be that Mr. Thomas planned to surprise you with this? I'm sorry if I accidentally spoiled the surprise."
Hearing that, Calla's face lit up instantly.
The clerk carefully took out the brooch and placed it on the counter.
Calla eagerly picked up the brooch and tried it on in front of the mirror.
The manager and the clerk showered her with compliments. "Mr. Thomas is truly devoted to you! This brooch was designed by a famous designer. Just the 13-carat diamond in the center is worth over 8 million dollars. It seems he is willing to spend a lot of money on you! Moreover, a brooch is worn close to the heart. Brooches are usually given to the person who matters most. Miss, it seems you hold a special place in his heart!"
The manager's words made Calla very happy.
She carefully held the brooch in her hand, examining it closely.
But then she turned the brooch over, and her face went pale. She quickly placed it back on the velvet base.
She stood up, trying to keep her cool. But she couldn't hide her cold expression. "Mr. Anderson, I'm leaving."
Matthew was puzzled by her sudden change in mood. Then it hit him—Elizabeth's birthday was coming up. This brooch might be the birthday gift Michael had prepared for Elizabeth.
Matthew glanced at Calla walking towards the door.
No wonder Calla was upset when she saw it! The greater the hope, the greater the disappointment. Calla must be furious right now.
He shook his head at the manager and the clerk, sighed, and left the jewelry store.
The manager and the clerk looked at each other, clueless about what had just happened.
Matthew jogged to catch up with Calla.
Calla fought to control her anger, her chest heaving and her hands trembling slightly.
Elizabeth was Michael's ex-wife. Yet he actually wanted to give her jewelry worth millions of dollars! They were already divorced. Why was Michael still thinking about her?
The jewelry store manager had just said that brooches had special meanings.
Was Michael trying to imply something by giving Elizabeth a brooch?
That brooch would be worn closest to Elizabeth's heart.
Did Michael want Elizabeth to always keep him in her heart?
Calla's anger simmered, trapped and unyielding.
Did Michael even consider her his current girlfriend?
What did he think of her by doing this?
Calla couldn't forget that on her birthday, Michael only gave her an expensive bag.
This clearly showed that he didn't care about her at all.
Calla found she couldn't control her anger.
She knew she needed to calm her emotions now.
The fact was, there was no real love between her and Michael. She really shouldn't have any more expectations of him.
After all, she had forced herself into the position of his girlfriend. As for Elizabeth, she had a four-year marriage with Michael.
Passing by a restaurant, Carla glanced back at Matthew and decided to go in.
Carla ordered a large amount of food, choosing the most expensive dishes.
Matthew was indeed a bit hungry as well.
