Chapter 378 Begging
Her eyes had lost that bright, mischievous spark. Now, her face was pale and lifeless.
David's heart was breaking. He shook his head, tears streaming down his face.
"Sarah, don't listen to her. It's all nonsense! We can still have kids! I'm your husband, your favorite David! Don't you believe me anymore?"
Sarah gently stroked his hair. "David, I believe you, and I really do love you... Can you call my mom and ask her to come over, please?"
David could guess what she was thinking and shook his head frantically.
"No! It's late! Your mom's already asleep! I'll stay with you! I'll always stay with you from now on! I won't leave your side ever again!"
Sarah turned her head away, tears silently streaming down her face.
Given David's unusual behavior, she was now certain that what Margaret had said was true. She would never be able to have her own children again.
For a woman who had been filled with happy dreams about her future married life, this was a devastating blow.
From that moment on, she kept her mouth shut and didn't say another word.
Margaret had already found out which room Elizabeth was in. She called Michael, but the system kept telling her the call couldn't go through.
Taking a deep breath, she steeled herself and nervously pushed open the door.
Michael was in the outer room, looking for clothes for Elizabeth. The moment he saw Margaret, he dragged her out of the room.
Margaret didn't even have time to see Michael's expression before she felt herself being spun around.
Michael grabbed her by the hair, furiously dragging her towards the stairwell.
Margaret couldn't bear the pain and clung to Michael's hand, pleading, "Michael, it hurts! Let go of me! It's Margaret!"
Michael ignored her pleas and continued dragging her down the stairs.
Margaret, still in high heels, couldn't keep up with Michael's pace. He didn't care about her well-being, dragging her like a lifeless body down the stairs and out the back of the hospital.
It was raining outside.
Margaret's scalp was bleeding, and her high heels were long gone. Her right ankle was swollen.
Michael let go of her, throwing her to the ground.
Margaret fell into the rain, soaked and miserable.
She crawled over, grabbing Michael's pant leg, begging, "Michael, you can't do this to me! I didn't do anything! You can't treat me like this!"
Michael kicked her hard. "Margaret, you're not even worth a dog to me now!"
Margaret shook her head frantically, crawling back to grab his pant leg again.
"Michael! Listen to me! I didn't do any of this! It was Octavia! She stole all the cash from my apartment and ran away! I can't find her. Michael, I'm a victim too!"
Michael pulled up his pant leg and squatted down, looking at Margaret with utter disdain. "Do you think I'm an idiot?"
Margaret sat up, eyes full of terror. "No! I'm not lying! Michael, I'm innocent!"
Michael raised his hand and slapped her hard across the face.
Margaret fell to the ground again, her face swelling rapidly.
The rain continued to pour. Her once elegant dress was now soaked and muddy.
Michael's cold voice cut through the rain. "Margaret, don't think I don't know. Everything Octavia did was under your orders. She's not even a person to you, just a pawn. She does whatever you tell her to."
"The guy you hired to kidnap Sarah is in police custody. Do you think he didn't spill the beans? Do you think he didn't give you up?"
"You paid him $200,000, right? Just $200,000 to ruin someone's life. Margaret, you're something else!"
"Do you think I didn't come after you because I didn't know about all the other terrible things you've done? You've been trying to win people over at the company. What are you planning? Do you think I've been blind or stupid all these years?"
Margaret backed away, shaking her head in fear. "No, Michael, I've been framed! It wasn't me!"
Michael was about to step into the rain and kick her again when someone grabbed his arm.
Dean shook his head at him. "Let her go. The police will handle her. We need to check on Elizabeth."
Michael gave Margaret a look of disgust and left with Dean.
In the elevator, he asked Dean, "Elizabeth didn't see any of that, did she?"
Dean glanced at him. "She's not omniscient."
Michael nodded. "Good."
Dean raised an eyebrow. "Are you afraid of Elizabeth finding out?"
Michael cleared his throat, not answering.
Dean pressed on. "Do you have a violent streak? Are you afraid Elizabeth will notice?"
Michael frowned, looking down. 'A violent streak? Maybe.' He thought back to the bad memories from his childhood, of that brutal, savage man.
Seeing Michael's troubled expression, Dean apologized softly. "I'm sorry, I was out of line. I'm just worried that if Elizabeth lives with you in the future, will she be in danger?"
Michael's voice was low but firm. "I'd rather die than lay a hand on her."
Dean nodded. "I hope you keep your word."
The elevator arrived, and they walked out side by side.
Both Michael and Dean were tall and handsome, each with their own distinct style.
As they walked down the maternity ward hallway, they immediately drew attention.
The nurses at the station whispered among themselves.
"Look, the family members from the VIP room are back."
"Oh my God! I'd be happy with just one of them. She has the love of both men!"
"Have you looked in the mirror lately?"
"Yeah, even after giving birth, she's still so beautiful!"
Michael ignored the chatter and walked straight into Elizabeth's room.
Pearl and Nolan were there too.
Michael suddenly felt a bit nervous.
Dean found it amusing. This man, who had been so tough and decisive outside, turned into a gentle person the moment he saw the kids.
Nolan noticed Michael's presence and immediately fell silent.
Pearl was still chatting with Elizabeth. "Mom, Dean said you had a baby brother for me, is that true?"
Elizabeth smiled and nodded. "Yes."
Pearl asked curiously, "What did you name him?"
"Francis, Francis Thomas."
Michael, who had been looking down, suddenly raised his head in disbelief, staring at Elizabeth.
Elizabeth met his gaze.
He slowly walked towards her, his voice hoarse. "Didn't we agree the baby would have the last name Jones?"
