Chapter 546 The Butler
Nolan didn't even bother checking the caller ID, assuming it was Michael. He grabbed the phone and yelled, "I've told you, I don't need your help with my business. Punishing Victor is my responsibility! I'll make sure he pays for what he's done!"
There was silence on the other end. Suddenly, Nolan realized something and quickly checked the caller ID.
He hesitated and then said, "Mom."
Elizabeth's voice was filled with concern. "Nolan! You finally answered!"
"Mom, how are you feeling?"
"I'm fine. Why do you ask?"
"Nothing, I was just worried about you."
"I'm okay. I just get tired more easily than before. But Nolan, what were you saying about revenge? Are you planning to get back at Victor? What are you going to do?"
"Mom, I have a plan. Don't worry about it."
"Nolan, I'm your mother. How can I not worry about you? You're still just a kid and don't fully understand the dangers. Listen to me and go home, okay?"
Nolan frowned. He didn't want to go against Elizabeth, but his goal was to bring her back with him.
"Mom, will you come home with me?"
Elizabeth hesitated. "I'm sorry, Nolan. I have some things to take care of here. I can't leave right now."
"Mom, are you waiting for Michael to come around? He's lost his memory. He doesn't remember you. What's the point of waiting for him?"
"Nolan, it's not just about him. I need to have surgery here, and my friend, who I trust, will be performing it." Elizabeth's voice was serious. "Nolan, I still want to know what you're planning to do to Victor."
Nolan's fists clenched. "Mom, just wait and see. He bullied you, and he has to pay! I'll make sure he never has the chance to hurt you again!"
Elizabeth was anxious. "Nolan, you're my child. How can I watch you take risks? This place isn't like home!"
Nolan tried to reassure her. "Mom, don't worry. I won't be directly involved. I'll have someone else handle it."
Elizabeth knew how stubborn he could be and decided to stop trying to convince him.
"Nolan, if you don't need to be here, then come home. You can still keep track of things from there."
Nolan hesitated for a few seconds before finally agreeing. "Alright."
Elizabeth was overjoyed. "Great! I'll call Michael right now!"
Nolan thought, 'Why call that jerk?'
But he didn't say it out loud.
Michael received Elizabeth's call and immediately went upstairs to his bedroom to answer it.
The castle was full of Gerald's spies. The safest place was his and Cordelia's quarters.
Cordelia had sternly warned all the servants not to report Michael's actions to Gerald.
Michael entered the bedroom, closed the door, and spoke to Elizabeth.
"Is something wrong with Nolan?"
"Michael, Nolan agreed to go home! I'm buying his ticket now to get him out of here as soon as possible."
Michael stopped her. "No need. I can't escort him all the way. It's too risky. I'll figure something out."
"What do you mean, 'figure something out'?"
"Don't worry about it."
Michael hung up and immediately called Juan.
"Juan, I need a favor."
Juan sounded a bit resigned. "What is it this time? You only call when you need something."
Michael wasn't the least bit embarrassed. "My son needs to get back to Aurora Bay. I need your plane."
Juan agreed readily. "No problem. But why aren't you going with him?"
Michael didn't hide anything. "I'm married to Cordelia now. I have to consider her. I'm still part of the Murphy family. If I leave without a word, do you think Gerald will let me or my family go?"
Juan chuckled. "You said it yourself, you're married to Cordelia. Your family is the Murphy family now. What other family do you have?"
Michael sighed. "Juan, cut it out."
Juan stubbed out his cigarette. "Alright, I'll have my people handle the plane. Your son will be safe."
At the Murphy Castle, Victor stumbled through the garden gate, clearly drunk.
His wife, Emma Kate, watched him from a second-floor window with a cold expression.
In the shadows at the corner of the staircase, the Butler, Everett Stevens, appeared silently.
"Mrs. Murphy, it's late. You should rest."
Emma tightened her shawl, speaking as if to herself. "Victor's drunk. Why didn't he stay with another woman tonight? Why did he come back?"
Everett quietly approached her. "Mrs. Murphy, Mr. Murphy is your husband. It's only natural for him to stay here."
Emma's hands clenched into fists, her knuckles turning white from the pressure.
Everett gently took her hands, slowly opening her fists. "Mrs. Murphy, you should be happy Mr. Murphy is home. Don't hurt yourself. Look, your palms are injured."
Emma stood still, letting Everett hold her hands and blow on them gently.
"Mrs. Murphy, even if you're unhappy with Mr. Murphy, you can't show it openly. People will use it against you."
Tears welled up in Emma's eyes. She blinked, and they fell like pearls down her cheeks.
She turned to Everett, her voice filled with suppressed anger and sorrow. "Everett, when will this end? I've had enough. There's no love between us. Why can't I leave? Why must I stay in this prison-like castle?"
Everett's eyes showed his pain. He took out a handkerchief and gently wiped her tears. "Emma, just hold on a little longer. It will all be over soon."
Emma's tears stopped abruptly. She looked at Everett in fear. "Everett, we just need to escape. Don't take risks for me. We agreed on this!"
Everett smiled softly. "Emma, you don't need to worry. Just take care of our daughter. Leave everything else to me."
