Chapter 522 Going to Be a Dad
Matthew asked, "What's your plan? I'm here to help."
Elizabeth, studying the map Dean sent of the area around Murphy Castle, replied, "I don't need your help right now."
Matthew thought Elizabeth was out of her mind. "You're seriously thinking of going to Murphy Castle alone?"
Elizabeth continued packing her things. "Why not?"
Matthew was about to lose it. "Even though you made Michael lose ST, and I can't stand you to the point I want him to dump you right now, I still know you're the love of his life. If something happens to you, he'll be crushed. Elizabeth, can you please calm down and at least get some backup? You're just one person, and walking into the Murphy family is like a lamb walking into a lion's den."
Elizabeth paused and stood up. "What, is Murphy Castle a death trap?"
Matthew gritted his teeth. "Murphy Castle is a wolf's den! If you go in, you won't come out! Especially now that Michael's been in a car accident, and we don't know how bad it is. If he's seriously hurt, how will you get him out? If he's mad at you over the stock issue and refuses to leave with you, what then?"
Elizabeth chuckled. "Matthew, I didn't expect you to care about me even though you hate me. Thanks!"
Matthew put his right hand on his forehead and closed his eyes in frustration. "Elizabeth! Wait until I find out more about what's going on at Murphy Castle before you go! Don't rush in!"
Elizabeth agreed quickly. "Okay."
Matthew was taken aback by how quickly Elizabeth gave in and was momentarily speechless. "Alright, wait for me."
Elizabeth hung up the phone and continued packing. Gerald wasn't someone to be taken lightly, and she was actually quite nervous. She wasn't sure if Michael still cared about her or if he would agree to leave with her.
Matthew called back soon.
Elizabeth heard the hesitation in his voice and frowned. "What's wrong?"
Her heart sank.
The worst-case scenario was that Michael was no longer alive. But Dean had already tracked his whereabouts, and Gerald clearly still wanted to use him. So, he couldn't be dead.
Thinking this, Elizabeth calmed down. No matter how bad things got, she could handle it.
"Matthew, just tell me, what's going on?"
Matthew was still hesitant. "Elizabeth, promise me you won't do anything stupid. Don't act impulsively."
Elizabeth was getting impatient. "Just say it!"
Matthew had no choice but to be honest. "The Murphy family has a big event tomorrow. Gerald's daughter Cordelia is getting married on a cruise ship in international waters. The groom is Michael."
Elizabeth thought she was hearing things.
What did Matthew just say? Michael was the groom?
Whose groom? What kind of joke was this?
Weren't they already married? How could he marry another woman?
Where did that leave her? Where did that leave their children?
Was he abandoning her? And the three kids too?
Michael planned to spend the rest of his life with Cordelia?
What about her, Elizabeth? Was he just going to throw her away without even saying goodbye?
Elizabeth felt her head buzzing, her ears ringing. The phone slipped from her hand, and she collapsed onto the couch.
The sound of the phone hitting the floor brought Matthew's shouts. "Elizabeth? Elizabeth! Are you okay? Are you alright?"
His shouting snapped Elizabeth back to reality. She picked up the phone, holding her forehead. "I'm fine, I just dropped the phone."
Hadn't she thought the worst-case scenario was that Michael was dead? Now, he was just marrying another woman. This woman was Gerald's daughter.
Since Gerald was willing to marry off his precious daughter to him, it meant Michael was physically fine.
This should be good news. Michael wasn't dead; he was alive and well.
He had just betrayed their marriage, that was all.
Elizabeth tried to comfort herself, but she didn't realize she was already in tears.
She silently regretted not telling Michael everything from the start. Maybe things wouldn't have come to this.
But it was too late now. She had no way out.
That was her husband, her love, her children's father. She couldn't let another woman take him away.
Whispering Pines Estates in Aurora Bay, Celestria.
David and Sarah brought gifts to visit the three children.
Susan greeted them, holding Francis.
"Sarah, what a coincidence, Sherry took Nolan and Pearl out to play, and they haven't come back yet."
Sarah was puzzled. "Sherry? Michael's sister?"
Susan nodded. "That's right. Did Elizabeth tell you?"
Sarah put down the gifts and nodded. "Yes, Elizabeth mentioned it. It seems Nolan and Pearl are getting along well with their new aunt."
Susan smiled and put Francis in the stroller. "Yes. Nolan has really grown up. He used to not like interacting with strangers."
The doorbell rang, and everyone looked outside. Matthew had arrived.
Sarah was puzzled. "What's he doing at Whispering Pines Estates?"
Susan smiled but didn't explain much. "Mr. Anderson has been coming over a lot lately."
Sarah frowned and stared at Matthew.
Susan opened the door for him, and Matthew quickly came in, carrying a bunch of baby supplies.
Sarah looked at him in surprise. "Matthew, what are you doing? You went to a baby store? Is this a miracle?"
Matthew coughed a few times to hide his embarrassment. "David, Sarah, what brings you here?"
Sarah stood in front of David, arms crossed, looking at Matthew. "This is Elizabeth's house. As her best friend, it's normal for me to come over. But you, Mr. Anderson, you always look down on Elizabeth and badmouth her in your chat group. Why are you here? Are you two-faced? What's your scheme?"
Matthew looked to David for help. "David."
Sarah raised her chin at him. "I'm talking to you! Don't look at David. He'll side with me in front of outsiders! Unlike Elizabeth, who has no one to back her up and is always slandered by you!"
Matthew lowered his head, coughed, and said softly, "I misunderstood Elizabeth. She's not a shallow woman. She must have had her reasons for taking Michael's shares. I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions."
Sarah snorted. "That's more like it."
She looked at the items in Matthew's hands. "Why did you buy so many things for pregnant women? Don't tell me you're going to be a dad."
Matthew's face turned red. "Yes."
David and Sarah's eyes widened in unison. "Who's the mother?"
