Chapter 509 Not a Biological Sister
Elizabeth quickly interrupted, "Eloise, what are you talking about? You ended up like this because you wanted to save Francis' life. Please, don't be so reckless anymore, okay? If anything happens, talk to us first."
Eloise managed a weak smile, "Elizabeth, did you come alone? Where's Michael? I really want to see him."
Elizabeth and Louis exchanged a glance. She nervously licked her lips, "Eloise, Michael's still back home. Hold on, I'll call him."
Eloise's eyes lit up, "Great! I want to tell him I'm still alive. I want to see him!"
Under Eloise's hopeful gaze, Elizabeth reluctantly took out her phone and dialed Michael's number.
As she expected, the phone only returned a mechanical female voice, "Sorry, the number you dialed is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."
Avoiding Eloise's gaze, Elizabeth quickly put away her phone and said, "Eloise, you're still very weak. Let's call him later, okay?"
Though a bit disappointed, Eloise happily grabbed Elizabeth's hand, "Elizabeth, I haven't seen Pearl and Nolan in so long. How are they? Do they miss me?"
"Pearl and Nolan miss you every day. Nolan's studying at Valoria now, and he'll come to see you during his break. As for Pearl, I've already called Dean, and he'll bring her over soon."
Eloise's face lit up with joy, "That's wonderful! It's so good to see you all again!"
She lowered her head and whispered, "I thought I'd never see you all again before I died."
Elizabeth gently patted her shoulder, "Eloise, just rest for now. Don't think about too much."
Eloise nodded and fell back asleep.
With Anthony temporarily detained by the police, Elizabeth and Louis took Quinn to complete the discharge procedures.
In the car, Quinn asked curiously, "Elizabeth, where are we going?"
Elizabeth replied, "We're going to my teacher's old residence, Professor Emily Johnson's villa. It's close to the medical school and the local police station, very safe. Anthony wouldn't dare come near."
Quinn looked worried, "Will staying at your teacher's place trouble her family?"
Elizabeth shook her head, "Don't worry, Quinn. It won't. I've already contacted the professor's son. He's very close to me and agreed to let you and Eloise stay there temporarily. No one usually visits, and he has another residence. Plus, the security there is excellent."
Quinn smiled at her, "As long as it doesn't trouble anyone. Thank you, Elizabeth, for all your help."
"Quinn, you don't need to be so polite. You won't feel lonely staying here. Once Eloise is discharged, she'll join you, and you two can be together again."
Dean brought Pearl to Valoria. Nolan was on break, and Elizabeth took him to the hospital to visit Eloise.
Eloise was thrilled to see them both, grabbing their hands, "Nolan, Pearl, it's so good to see you again!"
Pearl's eyes reddened, "Eloise, I thought you were really gone when I attended your funeral. You have no idea how long I cried and felt sad! Why did you deceive us? Didn't you know we'd be heartbroken? Especially Dad, he was terrifying during that time."
Eloise apologized, "I'm sorry, Pearl. I didn't think it through. I just didn't want everyone to worry about me."
Nolan, having experienced Eloise's "death," decided never to hide his feelings from her again, "Eloise, don't do this again. We're your family and friends. Hearing about your death was painful for all of us. Whatever you're going through, you should tell us so we can help you through it together."
Eloise was surprised by Nolan's change in attitude, "Nolan, you're not mad at me anymore?"
Nolan turned slightly and sighed, "Even though you're not my dad's biological sister, we still treat you like our real aunt. After you're discharged, my mom will continue to take care of you. Why don't you stay with us? We can look after you together."
Eloise looked puzzled, "Nolan, what do you mean I'm 'not your dad's biological sister'? What does that mean?"
Nolan's heart skipped a beat. 'Does Eloise not know the truth about Michael's background?'
He glanced at Elizabeth.
Elizabeth, sitting by Eloise's bed, said, "Eloise, it's a long story. While you were unconscious, Michael's biological father found him. His real last name is Reed, not Thomas. Your real brother is Quinn Reed, and he's the one who donated a kidney to save you."
"Even though Michael isn't your biological brother, he still thinks about you all the time. Quinn does too; he really wants to talk to you in person. Once you're discharged, you'll be able to see Quinn. Do you want to meet him?"
Eloise nodded, "I want to see both of them. Am I being too greedy?"
Louis came over and held her hand, "Not at all, Eloise. I know you miss Michael. He's been very busy lately. Once you're better, let Elizabeth bring him to see you, okay?"
Eloise finally smiled, "Okay, I'll meet Quinn first. I can't wait to see him. If he gave me his kidney, it means he loves me, right?"
Elizabeth and Louis looked at her and said in unison, "Of course!"
Louis gazed at her gently, "Eloise, you're so wonderful. Everyone loves you."
At the Thomas Mansion in Aurora Bay, Celestria.
While Elizabeth struggled to reach Michael, Michael was drowning in his own pain.
He had locked himself in his bedroom on the second floor, ordering not to be disturbed. He was deeply lost in self-doubt.
Eloise was gone. No one was there to quietly listen to his thoughts anymore.
Elizabeth's heart wasn't solely his. She cared about so many others: Nolan, Pearl, Dean, Carter, Louis, Quinn...
How much space could he, Michael, occupy in her heart?
He should have realized this sooner and let her go.
He looked up at the sky outside the window, thinking how wonderful it would be if Eloise were still here.
He got dressed and went downstairs. The driver was already waiting and opened the car door as soon as he saw Michael approaching.
Michael got in and instructed, "To the cemetery."
The driver understood; Michael missed Eloise.
Without a word, he stepped on the gas and headed straight to the cemetery.
