Chapter 304 Caught the Person
Elizabeth sat stiffly in the back seat, still trembling all over.
Seeing her like this, Michael felt an overwhelming sense of heartache.
He called his bodyguard, Rolf Tackett. "Check the surveillance footage right now. Find out who messed with her car."
He moved closer to her, taking her cold hands in his.
Elizabeth's icy hands finally started to warm up. She seemed to be calming down as well.
She slowly turned to look at Michael, her eyes instantly welling up with tears. "Michael."
Seeing her so distressed, Michael felt a surge of anger. He wanted to skin alive whoever had done this.
He couldn't bear to see her so scared. Who had the audacity to mess with his woman?
The driver took them back to Whispering Pines Estates.
Once they arrived, Elizabeth mechanically opened the door, walked through the yard, and went upstairs.
Seeing her in such a dazed state, Michael was worried and followed her inside, all the way to her room.
Since she hadn't changed her clothes yet, he helped her sit on the sofa in the outer room of the bedroom. Elizabeth's eyes were vacant, and she leaned weakly against him.
Michael had never seen her so dependent on him before, and his heart filled with tenderness. He held her quietly.
Suddenly, her phone rang. It was Dean.
Elizabeth snapped out of her daze and answered the call. "Dean."
"Elizabeth, I saw your office light was off. Have you already left?"
"Yeah, I'm home."
"Good. I'm leaving soon too."
Elizabeth hung up and finally came to her senses. She looked at Michael, frowning. "Michael, why are you in my house? How did you get in?"
Michael wanted to say, 'You ungrateful woman.'
He withdrew his arm from around her. "You were scared. I was worried about the baby, so I came to check on you. Since you're fine, I'll leave now." He stood up.
Elizabeth scoffed inwardly, 'Of course, you're only thinking about your child.'
She remained on the sofa, arms crossed, legs crossed, not even bothering to look up. "Thanks for your concern, Mr. Thomas. I'm fine now. Please see yourself out."
Michael slowly made his way to the door, glancing back to see she hadn't moved an inch.
He thought to himself, 'Fine, have it your way! I shouldn't have bothered!'
He stormed down the stairs and out of the house.
The driver was waiting at the door, and seeing Michael stride out with a furious expression, he quickly opened the car door for him.
Michael got into the back seat and let out a heavy sigh. "Let's go."
That evening, after dinner, Michael was reading in his study.
Rolf called. "Mr. Thomas, we caught the person who messed with Ms. Jones."
Michael's face turned cold. "Bring him here."
Rolf replied, "Yes, sir."
They had checked the parking lot surveillance and found that the person had used tools to break into Elizabeth's Range Rover and thrown a disgusting rat inside.
When the bodyguards brought the man in, Michael was already sitting on the living room sofa.
The lead bodyguard opened the door, and Rolf dragged the man in like a dead dog.
Michael put down his coffee cup. "Talk."
Rolf kicked the man hard. "Answer him!"
The man looked up, his face bloody and one arm hanging limply. He stammered, "W-what do you want me to say?"
Rolf kicked him again, sending him sprawling at Michael's feet.
Michael took out a tissue, wiped his shoe in disgust, and then tossed the tissue onto the man's face.
He spoke slowly, "Did you find out anything?"
Rolf replied, "No."
"So, you think someone is coming to save you? Who sent you?" Michael's voice was slow but menacing.
The man didn't break. "No one sent me. I just thought it was fun."
Rolf sneered, "Looks like they paid you well."
Michael gave Rolf a look.
Rolf kicked the man in the chest, sending him coughing and gasping on the floor.
Michael stood up, walked over, and pressed his shoe hard against the man's face.
His expression was fierce, but his voice was almost gentle. "You think it's fun? Fine, don't say anything. We don't need to know."
He gestured to Rolf, who understood immediately.
A servant handed Michael a wet wipe, and he carefully cleaned his hands. "Clean this place up. It's too dirty."
With that, he went upstairs.
Behind him, he heard the man's screams of pain.
Michael didn't even look back. "Move him somewhere else. Don't disturb the neighbors."
In reality, the estates were home to the city's elite, and the houses were far enough apart to ensure privacy. No one could hear anything from their neighbors.
Michael went upstairs, into his room, and lay down on the bed after tidying up.
Soon, Rolf called. "Mr. Thomas, we got a name. It's Jennifer."
"Just as I thought."
"Mr. Thomas, what should we do with him?"
"Handle it as you see fit. Just don't kill him."
"Understood, Mr. Thomas."
The next morning, Elizabeth groggily arrived at the CEO's office. Dean came to see her. "Elizabeth, what's going on with you lately? Sleeping in a lot. Is it because of the pregnancy?"
Elizabeth rubbed her forehead. "I don't know. Probably."
Dean asked, "Why did you leave so early yesterday? I thought you'd wait for me."
Elizabeth rolled her eyes. "You have dates every day. How could I wait for you?"
Dean scratched his nose. "I didn't have a date last night."
Elizabeth laughed. "Next time, if you want to go home with me, give me a heads-up."
Dean nodded. "Got it."
He moved behind her and started massaging her shoulders. "What's wrong? You look out of it."
Elizabeth sighed. "Dean, I wish you had left with me last night."
Dean stopped and moved in front of her, worried. "What happened? Did something happen?"
Elizabeth continued to rub her temples. "Last night, when I got in my car, I found a huge rat. It scared me to death."
Dean's eyes widened. "Seriously? Did it bite you?"
Elizabeth shook her head. "No, it didn't bite me. It was just gross and scary."
Dean pressed on. "How are you now? Feeling better?"
Elizabeth sighed. "I had nightmares last night. Didn't sleep well."
Dean nodded. "As long as you're okay. Someone probably got revenge for you."
Elizabeth was puzzled. "Revenge?"
