Chapter 273 Jealousy
After the event, Elizabeth watched as the bodyguards and security guys escorted Carter away.
Dean quietly came up to her and said, "Elizabeth, I think this singer's got some other intentions with you."
Elizabeth laughed and replied, "I'm already a mom of two. What could he possibly want from me?"
Even though she said that, she couldn't shake the feeling that Carter's enthusiasm towards her was more than just friendly.
She and Dean then cleaned up and left the venue.
In the car, Sarah called her, "Elizabeth, it's such a bummer I couldn't be there to cheer you on today."
Elizabeth laughed and said, "It's not like I was going to war."
Sarah pouted on the other end, "It's such a shame I missed Carter's first performance."
Elizabeth said, "Sarah, it's fine. You can invite him to your wedding another day to be a guest."
Sarah got excited again and asked, "Really? Can I really do that?"
Elizabeth replied, "Really. Carter knows you're getting married. He mentioned it to me himself."
Sarah screamed with excitement, "I'm so happy! All the women in Celestria will be jealous of me!"
Elizabeth couldn't help but feel happy too, infected by her joy.
But then Sarah hesitated and changed the subject, "Elizabeth, I'm not trying to gossip, but as your best friend, I think I should know first."
Elizabeth was puzzled and asked, "What is it? Why so mysterious?"
Sarah said, "Elizabeth, have you seen the online comments?"
Elizabeth asked, "What comments?"
Sarah replied, "People online are saying that Carter is dating you."
Elizabeth shook her head helplessly and said, "Sarah, don't you know better than anyone if I'm dating someone?"
Sarah responded, "Knowing is one thing, but I still have to ask! After all, I didn't know you were acquainted with the famous Carter! And you two seem to have an unusual relationship. How would I know if you're hiding a secret relationship with him?"
Elizabeth rubbed her forehead and said, "Where would I find the time or energy for a secret relationship right now?"
Sarah said, "I don't care, but if you are dating, I must be the first to know!"
Elizabeth responded, "Okay."
After hanging up, Elizabeth opened Carter's studio's pinned Twitter post. It was a video clip from today's event.
In the video, Carter was singing on stage, looking so charming and captivating with his passionate performance.
Elizabeth scrolled to the comments section. As expected, the comments were divided into two categories.
One type was like this: [Carter is back.]
[Carter sings so well.]
[I love you, Carter.]
The other type was full of insults directed at Elizabeth.
[Where did this old woman come from, daring to go after our Carter?]
[Did Carter hide away for so long because of this old woman?]
[No! I want to hear Carter sing, not see him looking at another woman!]
[I'm going to scream! Why is Carter wearing matching outfits with another woman?]
Seeing this, Elizabeth sighed heavily. What had she done to deserve this? She had become the target of public criticism.
She really didn't want to become a public figure.
She sighed again and leaned back in the car seat.
They soon returned to Whispering Pines Estates.
Dean had seen the online insults and his brows furrowed; he couldn't stand seeing Elizabeth being wronged.
Turning to her, he asked, "Elizabeth, should I delete all these nasty comments from the backend?"
Elizabeth shook her head and said, "It's Carter's account. We shouldn't mess with it without his say-so. Let's see what he thinks."
Just then, Carter called, "Elizabeth, I'm really sorry for all the trouble. You're not even in the entertainment industry, yet you're getting all this hate because of me. I didn't think it through."
Elizabeth was about to respond when Carter cut her off, "Don't worry, Elizabeth. I'll handle this." Then he hung up.
Elizabeth stared at her phone, feeling a bit puzzled. She hadn't even said anything yet.
Dean's phone rang; it was Daniel. Dean answered right away.
Daniel asked, "Dean, are you home? How did the event go?"
Dean replied, "We just got back. Elizabeth's feeling a bit down."
Daniel's voice dropped. "I'll let you in on a secret. Michael watched your live stream from his hospital room today. He looked really upset. I think he was jealous seeing Elizabeth with Carter, especially in those matching outfits."
Dean laughed, "Michael must be feeling pretty bad. Even without him, Elizabeth still has great guys interested in her. Tell him to stop acting so high and mighty."
Daniel replied, "I wouldn't dare relay that message."
Dean said, "Daniel, you're too naive. I was just venting. Don't take it seriously."
Daniel said, "He was so worried that he went to the event in person."
Dean was shocked, "What! Is he crazy? Isn't his wound still healing? Did the doctor allow him to run around like that?"
Daniel replied, "The doctor scolded him after he got back to the hospital."
Hearing this, Dean laughed heartily again.
After hanging up, Dean told Elizabeth about it.
Elizabeth stayed calm and said, "Dean, I have nothing to do with that person anymore. Don't mention him to me again."
Dean quickly said, "Okay, I won't mention him. We'll live our happy lives!"
Elizabeth secretly touched her belly. 'Can I really let Michael go completely and not care anymore?'
In the hospital room, Michael was scrolling through Twitter.
The video of Carter and the Jones Group's event today had been shared countless times.
Michael found Carter's Twitter account, which had just been updated: [This is Carter. I'm still single. Today's outfits were not matching, just arranged for the event. Elizabeth is my ideal girlfriend; she is kind-hearted and sensitive. Please don't target her. Thank you to my fans for your continued support and love.]
Michael felt disdainful and swiped the message away.
A few days later, Michael was ready to be discharged when Daniel came to pick him up.
As Daniel helped Michael pack, he casually asked, "Mr. Thomas, there's something I'm really curious about."
Michael replied coldly, "Curiosity can lead to unhappiness."
Daniel couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Thomas, have you really let go of Elizabeth completely? Are you not going to contact her anymore? Will you never see her again?"
Michael looked at him playfully and asked, "Are you asking on behalf of Elizabeth, Dean, or yourself?"
Daniel replied, "Mr. Thomas, I'm just purely curious."
Michael said, "Don't pry into things you shouldn't."
Daniel lowered his head and said, "Mr. Thomas, if Elizabeth came to the hospital to see you that day, what would you have said to her?"
