Chapter 101 The Mistress Kept by an Old Man
Emily didn't finish.
Michael heard a loud thud.
He shouted, panicked, "Ms. Johnson! Are you okay?"
All he could hear was chaos—shouting, footsteps, and the sound of a stretcher being wheeled away.
An hour later, Michael called back.
Someone answered quickly.
He asked nervously, "Ms. Johnson, what happened earlier?"
A stranger's sorrowful voice replied, "Mr. Thomas, hello. I'm Ms. Johnson's assistant, Louis Cox. Ms. Johnson passed away from a sudden heart attack."
A week later, at Evergreen City Airport, Elizabeth was back.
She returned with her two kids and Nancy.
After leaving the airport, Elizabeth took them to the hotel she had booked.
Nancy led the kids. Elizabeth hauled the luggage to the room.
After the long flight, the kids quickly crashed on the hotel bed.
Elizabeth turned to Nancy, "Mom, while the kids are asleep, you should rest too. I'm going out to look for a place. We can't stay in a hotel forever."
Nancy nodded, "Yeah, you're right. Pearl and Nolan need a place to grow up in, and it can't be a hotel."
Elizabeth said, "Mom, get some rest. I'll go check out some places."
Nancy said, "Okay. I'll stay here and watch them."
Elizabeth left the hotel and headed straight to a real estate agency.
She looked at several villa renderings the agent recommended.
One caught her eye: Whispering Pines Estates.
The Jones Family's old house was near Whispering Pines Estates.
Elizabeth pointed to the rendering and told the agent, "This one, I'll go take a look."
The agent called the sales office at Whispering Pines Estates.
When Elizabeth arrived, a young woman in her twenties greeted her.
The young woman eagerly showed her the villa layouts. "Ma'am, we have detached, semi-detached, and stacked villas. Which type do you prefer? Or do you have a specific layout in mind? I can show you the model homes."
Elizabeth was direct, "I want a detached villa with a yard, at least four bedrooms, and fully furnished so I can move in right away."
The young woman replied enthusiastically, "We do have a luxury furnished detached villa with a small yard, but there's only one left. Are you free now? I can take you to see it."
Elizabeth nodded and stood up, "Okay. If I like it, I'll pay in full today."
The saleswoman was thrilled, "Ma'am, please follow me."
Elizabeth followed her to see the villa.
It was luxuriously decorated, with all the furniture and appliances included.
What really impressed Elizabeth was the thoughtful touches: protective guards on the stair corners, table edges, and wall angles.
Elizabeth nodded, satisfied. "Not bad. Let's go pay."
The saleswoman, beaming, walked beside her. "Alright, ma'am, no rush. Let's sign the contract first. After that, we can handle the payment."
Back at the sales office, the saleswoman led Elizabeth to the conference room. After signing the contract and paying the full ten million dollars, Elizabeth got the keys to her new villa.
She took a cab back to the hotel.
The kids were still out cold. They must've been wiped out.
When dinner rolled around, she ordered room service.
Elizabeth and Nancy had dinner in the hotel room.
Elizabeth asked, "Mom, should we wake them up to eat before they go back to sleep?"
Nancy glanced at the kids. "They've never traveled this far before and were so excited the whole way. After such a long flight, they must be exhausted. Let them sleep. Kids bounce back quickly. They can eat in the morning. Elizabeth, you must be tired too. Don't overdo it. Wash up and get some rest."
Elizabeth nodded. She changed her clothes and told Nancy about the villa she bought near the old Jones place.
Elizabeth said, "Mom, I'll take you and the kids to see it tomorrow. It's fully furnished, so we can move in right away."
Nancy asked, "It must be pricey there. How much did it cost?"
Elizabeth replied, "Ten million dollars."
Nancy gasped, "How much? Ten million dollars? Your father bought our old villa for just one million."
Elizabeth chuckled, "Mom, that was 20 years ago. Prices have skyrocketed. You can't expect a villa to stay the same price."
Nancy thought about it and realized Elizabeth was right. Times had changed.
The next morning, the kids woke up and eagerly ran to find Elizabeth.
Elizabeth took them and Nancy downstairs for breakfast. After eating, they went back to the room, and Elizabeth packed up their things.
Elizabeth and Nancy dragged their suitcases, took the kids out of the hotel, and hailed a cab straight to Whispering Pines Estates.
They arrived at the villa she had bought.
Elizabeth let Pearl and Nolan go upstairs to pick their rooms.
She turned to Nancy, "Mom, the biggest bedroom is yours."
Nancy protested, "Elizabeth, I don't need the biggest room. I can't use all that space. You should take it."
Elizabeth insisted, "I'm sleeping alone too. Mom, just take it."
Elizabeth and Nancy, along with the kids, started organizing their stuff.
What Elizabeth didn't know was that back at the sales office, the staff were gossiping about her.
One of the staff piped up, "Did you see the new resident who moved into the detached villa today?"
"Yeah, a young and beautiful woman with two kids and a nanny," another staff member replied.
"Did you know? She paid for the villa in full," the first staff member said.
"Oh my God, is she that rich?" the other staff member was shocked.
"She's so young and beautiful, and she's that wealthy? That's ten million dollars!" the first staff member marveled.
"But did you notice? Her husband isn't around," the other staff member pointed out.
"Right, she's alone with two kids and a nanny! Looks like she's another mistress kept by some old rich guy!" the first staff member speculated.
