Chapter 237 Surveillance
Michael stared at Elizabeth, his eyes narrowing.
He reached out and gently grabbed her chin, turning her face towards him. "Elizabeth, why are you blushing?" he asked, a smirk playing on his lips.
Elizabeth shot him a fierce look. "Blushing? Please, it's just the heater. I'm burning up!"
Michael raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure you're not hiding Eloise here?"
Elizabeth shoved him away, planting her hands on her hips. "Listen, Michael, you can't just boss me around! This is my house! If you think I've got Eloise stashed away, go get a search warrant. Until then, you're lucky I even let you in. Don't push it!"
Floyd quickly stepped in, pulling Michael back. "Mr. Thomas, Ms. Jones is right. We've been here long enough. It's rude. We should go."
He dragged Michael out of the house, but Michael kept glancing back with every step, his mind racing. 'If Eloise isn't here, where could she be?'
Elizabeth watched them leave, then shut the door with a sigh. She joined Pearl and Nolan for dinner, cleaned up, and got them ready for bed. It was already past ten.
Elizabeth headed to her room, ready for a shower. She opened her wardrobe to grab some clean clothes, but suddenly, someone tumbled out.
She screamed, jumping back in shock. Thankfully, her door was closed, so Pearl and Nolan didn't wake up.
She stared at the figure on the floor, her heart pounding. 'Eloise? How did she get in here? If she had been here for a while, wouldn't that mean she'd been in this confined space for several hours?'
Elizabeth touched Eloise's forehead, feeling the heat. Eloise's breathing was ragged.
"Eloise, wake up," Elizabeth called softly, panic rising.
She knew she had to act fast. She quickly got dressed and called Louis.
With Dean not home yet, she struggled to carry Eloise out by herself, placing her in the back seat of her car. She drove straight to Harmony Health Hospital, calling Dean on the way.
In the middle of the night, Michael was still glued to the surveillance screens at Whispering Pines Estates. He couldn't shake the feeling that Eloise was still around.
His eyes caught sight of Elizabeth's Land Rover speeding away. 'At 10:30 pm? Her kids should be asleep, and the supermarket's closed. Where's she going in such a hurry?'
He frowned, reaching for his phone to call Elizabeth, but it rang before he could dial. It was Calla.
So late at night, why was Calla calling him?
He answered, and Calla's voice came through the speaker. "Michael, are you busy? Can you come to Harmony Health Hospital? Eloise is here."
Michael shot up from his seat. Eloise was found? How did she end up at the hospital again?
"What happened to Eloise?" he asked, his voice tight with worry.
Calla explained, "She fainted outside again. Someone brought her to the hospital. The doctors recognized her and called me. I'm here now, performing surgery. The nurse helped me call you."
Michael was confused. He and Calla had already discussed Eloise's surgery and treatment plan. What had gone wrong?
Back then, they had decided Eloise would be hospitalized at Tomorrow's Cure Hospital. The anesthesiologist and assistant nurse were already lined up. So why did Calla suddenly end up at Harmony Health Hospital?
If Eloise needed surgery, Calla would have to prep for it. Why didn't she call him? After all, he was Eloise's immediate family.
But Michael didn't dwell on it. The priority was to see Eloise and check on her condition.
"I'm on my way," he said.
When Michael got to the hospital, Eloise's surgery was already over. Clio and the bodyguard were waiting outside the operating room. The indicator light went off, and Calla emerged, still in her blood-stained surgical gown and latex gloves.
Michael rushed over to her. Calla looked exhausted, supporting her waist and straightening up.
Seeing her like this, Michael's heart softened. Calla was five months pregnant and needed rest, but she stayed up late, came to the hospital with her big belly, and stood at the operating table for hours to help Eloise. He couldn't doubt her anymore.
Calla smiled at him. "Michael, I'm sorry I didn't notify you earlier. When the hospital contacted me, it was already midnight. I didn't want to disturb your sleep, so I didn't call. If you want to blame someone, blame me."
Michael pushed aside his doubts. Right now, he only felt gratitude. "Calla, thank you. You've worked hard."
Calla smiled. "It's my pleasure to do this for my boyfriend." She went back to the operating room to change and wash up.
The medical staff moved Eloise to a VIP ward. She slept soundly under the anesthesia, her head wrapped in bandages.
Michael sat by her bed, watching her furrowed brows. Was she in pain even in her sleep?
In the quiet ward, Michael's mind raced. This time, when Eloise went missing, he spent hours searching with no luck.
Once again, a "good Samaritan" brought her to Harmony Health Hospital. Why was it always this hospital?
If Eloise hadn't left Whispering Pines Estates and fainted within the estate, then this so-called "good Samaritan" shouldn't have brought her to Harmony Health Hospital. It wasn't the nearest hospital, nor the best one.
Michael called Daniel. "Retrieve the surveillance footage from Harmony Health Hospital and send it to me."
Soon, the video was on Michael's phone, along with Daniel's message: [Mr. Thomas, the hospital explained that the surveillance camera at the entrance of the operating room is broken.]
Michael watched the footage at various speeds and spotted Elizabeth hurrying into the inpatient building.
Strangely, a sense of calm washed over him, as if he was meant to see her there. His real reason for checking the footage was to find Elizabeth.
Michael remembered that Louis's father was the director of Harmony Health Hospital. Given Louis and Elizabeth's close relationship, if Elizabeth asked Louis to lie for her, Louis would definitely not refuse. He might even help her make the lie more convincing.
Michael pulled up his phone contacts, feeling it was crucial to call Elizabeth and ask what she was doing after ten o'clock last night.
