Chapter 482 Concerns
Michael was terrified that Pearl would keep talking, so he quickly ended the call and walked over to Elizabeth.
Elizabeth looked at him, puzzled. "Why do you look so guilty?"
Michael held up his phone. "Elizabeth, are you gonna be mad at me?"
Elizabeth handed him the hairdryer. "Why would I be mad at you?"
Michael plugged in the hairdryer, turned on the warm air, and started drying her hair. "Didn't you hear what Pearl said? I made Carter storm out of our home."
Elizabeth sat on the couch, resting her head on his leg, letting his large fingers comb through her hair.
"I won't be mad at you. You wouldn't have made him leave for no reason. You and Carter aren't that close anyway. You were probably more worried about our daughter's safety. On that point, I'm with you."
As Michael dried her hair, he asked nervously, "But will this mess up your friendship with Carter? Will he blame you? Will he stop talking to you?"
Elizabeth laughed. "Carter isn't that petty! If he were that easily upset, he wouldn't spoil Pearl so much. When we get back, I'll explain everything to him. Carter's always reasonable; he'll get it."
Michael thought to himself, 'Reasonable? He's just putting on a show in front of you!'
Suddenly, he remembered something. "Oh, by the way, Pearl said she called you, but you didn't answer. I didn't hear your phone ring. Is your phone dead? Can you charge it in time? We're supposed to go for a walk on the beach soon."
Elizabeth, who had been dozing off under the warm air, suddenly opened her eyes when Michael mentioned the phone call. She remembered she hadn't checked the message from Louis.
She sat up quickly, took the hairdryer from Michael, and urged him, "Go take a shower! Change your clothes, and we'll go for a walk on the beach. It'll get cold if we go out too late. The temperature difference here is huge. Be careful not to catch a cold."
Michael stood up, bent down slightly, and whispered in her ear, "If it's too late, we could always do something else."
Elizabeth pushed him away. "Go take a shower!"
Her face was flushed from the warm air, making her look shy in Michael's eyes.
Taking advantage of her distraction, Michael quickly kissed her cheek and laughed as he ran off. "Alright! I'm going now!"
He quickly undressed and went into the bathroom.
Soon, the sound of running water filled the room.
Elizabeth gently placed the hairdryer on the marble coffee table and quietly went to the entryway to retrieve her phone from her bag.
The hairdryer was still blowing.
Feeling like she was doing something wrong, her fingers trembled slightly as she opened Louis's message.
[Elizabeth, I think you can guess, Eloise is still alive, but her body is severely damaged. Multiple organs are showing significant decline. The most serious is her kidneys. She's in renal failure and urgently needs a transplant. I'm working here while staying with her, waiting for a suitable donor. Recently, her conscious periods are getting shorter. I don't think she has much time left.]
Elizabeth's heart raced as she read the message. Eloise's condition was dire, but there was still hope!
She glanced towards the bathroom and quickly replied to Louis: [Louis, get Eloise to Valoria ASAP. We have friends who are doctors there. I'll find a suitable kidney for her.]
Louis responded quickly: [Elizabeth, can you really find a donor? A direct relative's organ would reduce the risk of rejection. But, Michael...]
Elizabeth: [Michael isn't Eloise's biological brother. Her real brother, Quinn, is in Celestria.]
Louis: [Quinn? If I remember correctly, you once operated on him.]
Elizabeth: [Yes. I suspected then that he and Eloise were related. It was later confirmed that he is indeed her real brother.]
Louis: [I've been following the news back home. I know Michael's true identity has been revealed. Since we know who Eloise's brother is, should we ask Quinn if he can donate a kidney to her?]
Elizabeth: [I'll ask him and try to get his consent as soon as possible. From what I remember, Quinn is kind-hearted. He'll agree.]
Louis: [Elizabeth, let's not be too optimistic. Even the kindest person wouldn't donate an organ to a stranger without a good reason. Even if they are siblings, they don't know each other.]
The sound of water in the bathroom suddenly stopped. Elizabeth quickly put down her phone and picked up the hairdryer again.
The bathroom door opened, and Michael walked out, wrapped in a towel. "Your hair's still not dry?"
He looked at her with curiosity.
Elizabeth turned off the hairdryer. "You showered too quickly. Do you need me to dry your hair?"
Michael smiled and walked over. "Sure."
Elizabeth turned the hairdryer back on.
This time, Michael lay on her lap.
He hadn't mentioned seeing Louis, and she didn't dare bring it up. She feared it would ruin the closeness they had recently built.
As she dried his hair, her mind was elsewhere.
Michael tugged at her gently. "Elizabeth, don't just blow in one spot. It's getting hot."
Elizabeth snapped out of her thoughts and moved the hairdryer. "Sorry! Sorry!"
He looked up at her. "Something on your mind?"
Elizabeth turned his head back. "Let's finish drying your hair first. We'll talk later."
Michael's short hair dried quickly. He took the hairdryer and hung it up.
"Alright. Now we can talk."
Elizabeth looked confused. "Talk about what?"
Michael sat beside her. "What's on your mind! You were thinking about something just now."
Elizabeth hesitated. "What!"
She lowered her head, not wanting to say more.
Michael lifted her chin. "Elizabeth, are you thinking about Eloise?"
Elizabeth's eyes widened. "How did you know?"
Michael smiled wryly. "We've been in Aetheria for a while and haven't contacted Louis. Of course, you'd be thinking about it!"
Elizabeth asked cautiously, "Michael, do you still resent Louis?"
Michael sighed. "I wouldn't say I resent him. I just want to know the truth about Eloise. Louis kept it from me, and that's not fair."
Elizabeth felt tense. "So, deep down, you believe Eloise is still alive, right?"
