Chapter 58 Did He Find That?
Michael gave the driver an address, and they ended up in the busiest part of Aurora Bay.
The driver parked, and the bodyguard opened the door for Michael.
Michael and Elizabeth stepped out.
They headed straight to the luxury goods floor.
Elizabeth followed, noticing the sky-high prices. She thought, 'Wow, STellar Enterprises really spoils their employees with these fancy gifts for the annual dinner and New Year's.'
Elizabeth tagged along as Michael shopped from store to store.
Anything Elizabeth liked, Michael had the clerk wrap up.
Before long, the bodyguard was juggling twenty shopping bags.
After hours of shopping, Elizabeth felt a bit worn out, and Michael's pace slowed, too.
Elizabeth turned to Michael and said, "Michael, it's getting late. Let's head back."
Michael nodded, and they took the elevator down and walked out.
In the lobby, there was a watch counter, which was immediately caught sight of by Elizabeth..
The watch had a silver band, a deep blue dial, and a diamond-cut case. Simple yet classy.
Elizabeth saw the price and quickly walked away.
Michael stopped at the counter, glanced at Elizabeth walking away, and then looked at the watch she had been checking out.
The next morning, Elizabeth went to the restaurant for breakfast.
Michael placed a blue velvet box in front of her.
Elizabeth gave him a questioning look.
Michael said, "This is for putting up with three hours of shopping last night."
Elizabeth opened the box and saw the watch she had been eyeing. She knew it was pricey.
She quickly pushed it back, "You really didn't have to."
Michael took a bite of bread, "Just take it. The watch was 90% off. If I put it in the company raffle, no one would pick it, and it'd just go to waste."
Hearing that, Elizabeth quickly put it on.
She thought, 'Michael might be cold, but he's really good to his employees.'
Michael sipped his milk, a slight smile on his lips.
STellar Enterprises.
Top floor, CEO's office.
Michael called Daniel in through the intercom.
Daniel walked in, looking puzzled since Michael rarely called him in.
Michael handed him a list.
Daniel took it.
He glanced at the list, which was full of women's names.
Daniel asked, "Mr. Thomas, what's this?"
Michael said, "Check out these people and print a copy for me."
Daniel asked, "Are these new hires?"
Michael glared, "These are all Samuel's ex-girlfriends."
Daniel promptly cottoned on.
Michael was finally making a move.
He left the office with the list, feeling excited.
He discussed the info on these women with Matthew while checking it.
Michael was finally going after Samuel.
In the evening, Elizabeth stepped out of The Jones Group building and waited by the roadside for a cab.
The street was buzzing with traffic.
Elizabeth waited for ages but couldn't catch a cab.
She pulled out her phone to check for a ride-hailing service.
Out of nowhere, someone dashed over and snatched her bag, running off.
Elizabeth looked down at her dress and sighed. Even if she had been in sneakers and jeans, she couldn't have caught up with the robber. Plus, she was pregnant.
There wasn't anything super valuable in the bag, anyway.
Then she remembered the watch Michael had given her that morning. She hadn't worn it; it was in her bag. Also, the ultrasound report from the small hospital was still in there.
Thinking of this, she quickly called the police and then managed to get a cab.
She returned to Sunset Heights feeling down. Susan saw her and asked, "Mrs. Thomas, what's wrong?"
Elizabeth said, "My bag got snatched, and I couldn't catch up to the robber."
Susan quickly comforted her, "Mrs. Thomas, it's good that you're okay. Go wash up and come out for dinner."
Elizabeth went to her room, changed clothes, and washed her hands.
Susan quickly called Michael, "Mr. Thomas, Mrs. Thomas said her bag was snatched. She seems really upset. I don't know if there was something valuable inside."
Michael heard this and said, "Okay, I got it."
He told the driver to take him to the police station.
Michael found the police chief and explained the situation.
A few hours later, some officers brought in a man.
One officer handed a black women's handbag to Michael and asked, "Mr. Thomas, is this your wife's bag?"
Michael took it and immediately saw the blue velvet box inside.
He opened it and saw the watch he had given Elizabeth that morning.
Michael replied, "Yes, this is my wife's bag."
The police returned the bag to him and had him sign a form before letting him leave.
The driver took Michael back.
Elizabeth was already in bed when Susan knocked on the door and called out, "Mrs. Thomas, Mr. Thomas found your bag. Do you want to check if anything is missing?"
Hearing this, she quickly scrambled out of her bed, worried that Michael had discovered the ultrasound report.
She opened the door and saw Michael standing there with her black bag.
Elizabeth grabbed the bag and asked, "Michael, did you look inside my bag?"
Michael, thinking she was worried about the gift he had given her, felt a bit pleased and softly replied, "No, I didn't. I just recognized the bag. It's late, you should rest."
With that, Michael left.
Seeing his demeanor, Elizabeth knew he hadn't looked inside. If he had seen the date on the ultrasound report, he wouldn't be acting so calmly.
Michael looked pretty tired, probably from the effort of finding her bag.
Elizabeth suddenly felt that her earlier attitude had been a bit harsh.
