Chapter 511 Seeking Refuge

Elizabeth quickly responded, "Sherry, why'd you call me? Is something up?"

Hearing her gentle voice, Sherry felt tears welling up.

She sniffled and whispered, "I think I might be pregnant."

There was the sound of a chair being pushed back, followed by the click of high heels on the floor, and then a door closing.

Elizabeth's voice came through again, "Sherry, are you sure?"

Sherry nodded, then remembered Elizabeth couldn't see her, so she whispered, "Yeah, I bought a pregnancy test, and it showed two red lines."

"When was your last period?"

"It's already two days late."

"Then you probably won't see anything on an ultrasound yet. You should go to the hospital for a blood test to check your HCG levels. If they're high, it will confirm the pregnancy."

The thought of going to the hospital made Sherry even more anxious.

She took off her shoes, curled up in the corner of the couch, hugged her knees, and said helplessly, "If I really am pregnant, what should I do?"

"Sherry, you're an adult now. No one can make this decision for you. If you are pregnant, you can discuss it with the baby's father. If you both decide to keep the baby, you can choose to get married or live together. If neither of you wants the baby, you can go to the hospital for an abortion."

"Or, if you want to raise the child alone, you need to consider becoming a single mom. But you must be prepared to face all the challenges that come with it. Being a single mom isn't easy. Ultimately, the decision is yours."

Sherry's mind was still a mess, but hearing Elizabeth's words helped her calm down. She nodded and whispered, "Okay, I understand. Thank you."

Across the distance, Elizabeth suddenly said gently, "Sherry, before you make any decision, whether you plan to keep the baby or not, you can always talk to me."

"Okay, Elizabeth."

After hanging up, Elizabeth stood at the end of the hallway, looking out the window. The trees below were lush and green.

She was far away in another country, separated from Michael by miles, but their emotional distance felt even greater.

Now, his sister had reached out to her for help, and she felt a bit closer to him.

She picked up her phone and called Sherry back.

"Sherry, it's me, Elizabeth. You should go to the hospital soon to confirm if you're really pregnant."

Sherry hesitated, "Elizabeth, I'm scared to go to the hospital. I'm afraid of the smell of disinfectant and the doctors and nurses in their white coats and masks."

Elizabeth said, "Sherry, would you feel better if someone went with you? Having someone by your side might make you feel more comfortable."

Sherry didn't respond.

Elizabeth asked tentatively, "Sherry, do you know anyone else in Celestria?"

Sherry shook her head, "I only know you, Matthew, and Michael."

"Would you consider contacting Michael?"

"No way. He doesn't care about me."

"Unfortunately, I'm not in the country right now and can't go with you. How about asking Matthew to go with you?"

Sherry shook her head vigorously, "No, I don't need him. I'll go by myself."

Elizabeth thought, 'It seems Sherry doesn't want Matthew to know about her pregnancy.'

"Sherry, do you need me to call a friend to go with you?"

"Elizabeth, don't worry about it. I know you're busy in Valoria. I'll handle this myself."

"You're still young and need help. If you need..."

"Enough, Elizabeth. Let's not talk about me. I can tell you're upset. Are you having trouble?"

"Sherry, your brother isn't answering my calls."

"Did you two have a fight?"

"I'm not sure if it counts as a fight. I made a mistake, but he's not answering my calls or messages. I think he blocked me."

"He dared to block you? That jerk! Elizabeth, I'll find him and make him contact you."

"Forget it, Sherry. You have your own problems to deal with."

"It's okay, this isn't urgent."

Sherry hung up the phone and suddenly forgot about her own situation. She stood up and started packing.

She thought, even if she was pregnant, it wasn't a big deal. She never planned to marry any man for life.

After living with the Reed family for those years, she didn't believe in marriage or love.

But she longed for the warmth of a family.

If she was really pregnant, she would have the baby, raise him with all her love and care, and make him feel happy and warm.

In the end, she would gain something—having her own child without needing to marry or fall in love.

Now, she decided to move to Matthew's place.

Matthew's house was big enough, with good security. Living there would ensure her safety.

In the later stages of pregnancy, unexpected situations could arise. Living at Matthew's place, he could help if needed—assuming he wouldn't leave her in the lurch.

Most importantly, Matthew was Michael's good friend and subordinate. He surely knew Michael's whereabouts.

She wanted to help Elizabeth. She wanted to get information about Michael from Matthew and tell Elizabeth to ease her mind.

Sherry finished packing her suitcase, grabbed her phone, and headed out.

Elizabeth had already paid the rent for this place, so she didn't need to move out immediately. If anything unexpected happened, she could always come back.

She hailed a cab and headed straight to Matthew's house.

Matthew, reeking of alcohol, stepped out of the elevator and was about to enter his door code when he was startled.

Sherry, with her hair down and wrapped in a black cloak, appeared silently beside him.

Matthew screamed and nearly collapsed.

Sherry scoffed, "Matthew, is that all the courage you have?"

Matthew clutched his chest, trying to catch his breath, "Sherry! You scared me half to death!"

Sherry leaned against the door, arms crossed, "I didn't mean to scare you. You changed the door code, so I had to wait for you."

Matthew opened the door with his fingerprint and turned back, annoyed, "What are you doing here?"

Sherry pulled her suitcase and followed him inside, "Of course, I'm here to seek refuge with you."
