Chapter 240 Drugging

Calla shot a quick glance at Eloise, who still had her head buried, a flicker of coldness in her eyes.

But when she turned to Michael, that chill disappeared like it was never there. She always had a perfect smile for Michael.

"Michael," Calla said, "Eloise is still pretty shaken up. This isn't gonna help her get better. Is Clio around? I need her to come with me to grab some meds."

Michael nodded. "Clio's waiting outside. I'll call her in."

Calla shook her head. "No need. I'll go get her. We'll hit the pharmacy together."

Michael nodded again.

Calla left the room, pulled a bottle of pills from her bag, and handed it to Clio. "Clio, these are sedatives. Eloise is really unstable right now, and she needs to rest. Just add one of these to her soup at each meal."

Clio took the bottle with a serious look and bowed slightly. "Thank you, Dr. Griffin."

Clio had been Eloise's nanny for years, practically raising her. She saw Calla as a lifesaver for Eloise and treated her with the utmost respect and gratitude.

Calla let out a sigh of relief.

The driver took Clio back to the villa, where she cooked and packed the meals in a thermal container. She brought the food to Eloise in the ward.

After her surgery, Eloise didn't have much of an appetite and only managed to sip some mushroom soup before falling asleep.

Michael sat by her bed, keeping watch, while Calla had already returned to the Thomas family estate.

Michael was dozing off when his phone buzzed.

It was Daniel.

Not wanting to wake Eloise, Michael stepped into the outer room to take the call.

"Mr. Thomas," Daniel said, "when are you coming back to the office? There are some documents that need your signature."

"No rush," Michael replied.

"Mr. Thomas, have you heard? Elizabeth's company is having issues with its products. Our Christmas benefits are also from the Jones Group, and we're not sure if our batch is affected."

Michael's face turned serious. "What kind of issues?"

"People online are saying the Jones Group's robots use cheap camera components, not as good as the ones Innovatech Solutions sells abroad. Elizabeth's getting a lot of heat for it, accused of ripping off her own countrymen."

"I see." Michael hung up, feeling troubled.

He hadn't expected Elizabeth to run into such a mess and wondered if she could handle it.

Returning to the inner ward, he found Eloise still asleep.

Clio was keeping an eye on Eloise in the inner ward while the bodyguards stayed in the outer room.

Dean walked into the president's office at the Jones Group and closed the door behind him.

Elizabeth looked up. "Dean, you're acting weird today. But your timing's perfect. I need to talk to you."

Dean sat on the sofa across from her, signaling her to go on.

"Dean," Elizabeth began, "my mom passed away, and there's no one at home to do the housework or take the kids to school. We're both swamped with work. So..."

Dean cut in, "You want to hire a servant?"

Elizabeth shook her head. "Not just that. I want to hire a bodyguard, someone to protect our family."

Dean suggested, "The Thomas family's bodyguards are top-notch. Should I hit up Daniel for some advice?"

Elizabeth gave Dean a knowing look.

Dean blushed. "Why are you looking at me like that? Is there something on my face?"

Elizabeth nodded seriously. "Yep."

Dean quickly touched his face. "What is it?"

Elizabeth said solemnly, "It says 'Daniel's property.'"

Dean pretended to be angry. "Elizabeth! Are you messing with me?"

Elizabeth said, "I don't mind you dating Daniel, but I do mind his ties with Michael. I don't want too many connections with people from Stellar Enterprises."

Dean responded, "Sorry, Elizabeth. I didn't think about that. But just so you know, I'm not actually dating Daniel. Ever since my last heartbreak, I've been steering clear of relationships."

"Dean, I respect that. By the way, you mentioned this morning you had something to tell me?" Elizabeth asked.

Dean slapped his forehead. "Almost forgot. Hang on a sec."

He opened an app on his phone, played a video, and handed it to Elizabeth.

"Check this out," he said.

Elizabeth watched for a few minutes. "Is this footage from our Jones Group robots? Is there a problem?"

Dean's expression was serious. "Someone's trying to sabotage us. We just started, and already our competitors are at it. The person who posted this video claims to have bought our Innovatech Solutions robots in Valoria. He compared them and said the cameras in our domestic robots are several grades lower. Did you see the comments? Many people are saying..."

Dean lowered his head, not wanting to continue.

Elizabeth pressed, "Saying what about me?"

Dean closed his eyes. "They're saying you're profiting off your own countrymen. They want you... to go back to Valoria."

Elizabeth snorted. "They want me to get out of the country, right? Are these netizens blind, deaf, or just stupid? How can they be so easily deceived? The Jones Group's robots' cameras aren't as high-end as Innovatech Solutions', but there's a price difference for a reason! What I'm trying to do domestically is promote the Super Brain system robots among the working class. I hope that in the near future, every household can afford a domestic robot. After all, it helps family members with chores and allows families to spend more time together. This is one of my goals in rebuilding the Jones Group domestically."

Dean sighed, "Unfortunately, they don't understand."

Elizabeth shook her head. "Let them be."

Dean was worried. "Elizabeth, the current online opinion is very unfavorable to us. If we don't address it, we might not get any orders. Then, we won't have any revenue."

Elizabeth replied, "We'll find a way."

A few days later, Eloise was discharged from the hospital, and Michael took her back to the villa. She remained groggy all day.

After every meal, she would fall asleep. When she woke up, she ate and then slept again. This pattern continued, and Michael was very worried.

Could this be a side effect of the surgery?

Was the surgery unsuccessful?

Had Eloise's condition worsened?

Michael finally couldn't hold back. He called Calla to ask if Eloise's grogginess was normal.

Calla's calm voice came through, "There's no problem, Michael. Eloise just had surgery not long ago. After all, it was brain surgery, which affects various nerves. It's not uncommon for her to be temporarily groggy."

Michael said, "Temporary? This doesn't seem temporary. It's been several days since her surgery, and this didn't happen after her last one."
