Chapter 386 Curse

Margaret was now in a foreign country, temporarily staying at Samuel's villa in Phoenixia.

After fleeing years ago, Samuel had taken all the funds from Zenith Investments and registered a new company abroad.

However, Samuel wasn't planning on involving Margaret in his business affairs just yet. Margaret found herself a bit idle.

"Jennifer, how's Elizabeth's kid doing?"

"I heard they've issued a critical condition notice. The kid might not make it."

"No wonder Michael called me. He wants to kill me."

"He should feel the pain of losing a loved one! To make him suffer even more, I don't mind adding fuel to the fire!"

Margaret asked, puzzled, "What else are you planning to do? What more can you do?"

Jennifer sneered, "The hospital's ICU is too well-guarded to plant someone inside. But that doesn't mean I can't do something else! I can make Elizabeth's life even more miserable!"

Margaret laughed, "Jennifer, we met too late! If only we had met earlier!"

Jennifer agreed, "It's not too late now. We can still form an alliance, can't we? By the way, does your brother Samuel also hate Michael?"

Margaret felt a bit down, "He started it for me. He saw how Michael mistreated me and stood up for me, which angered Michael. Now they're enemies, on opposite sides."

Jennifer sensed an opportunity, "Next time, ask Samuel if I can collaborate with him. I've heard a lot about your brother Samuel. His Zenith Investments is very successful."

Margaret readily agreed, "No problem, the more friends, the more opportunities."

At the hospital.

Elizabeth had spent the entire night outside the pediatric ICU with Francis.

Early the next morning, she dragged her exhausted body back to Whispering Pines Estates.

Susan saw her and rushed over to support her, "Elizabeth, you can't go on like this. Your body hasn't fully recovered. If you keep exhausting yourself, you'll get sick. Mr. Thomas is at the hospital, let him stay with Francis."

Elizabeth collapsed onto the sofa, "Francis is still in critical condition. I can't rest easy unless I'm there with him. Unless I physically can't go on."

Susan thought to herself, 'Aren't you already at that point?'

She whispered, "Elizabeth, let me help you to your room. You'll sleep better in bed than on the sofa."

Elizabeth didn't want to move at all. Susan called the chef over, and together they helped Elizabeth to her room.

The doorbell rang.

Susan quickly said, "You rest, I'll go check."

Elizabeth weakly nodded.

At the door was someone in the uniform of the estate's property management company.

"Hello, is Ms. Jones here? There's a package that requires her signature."

Susan took it, "I'll take it. She's resting."

The property worker insisted, "It needs her personal signature. Are you Elizabeth?"

Susan knew Elizabeth was too exhausted to come out, and she worried the package might be important.

Just then, Dean returned. "Susan, what's going on?"

"Mr. Palmer, there's a package for Elizabeth that needs her personal signature. But she's very tired."

Dean remembered the last time Elizabeth received a package containing Louis' finger.

He gave the property worker a cold look, "If you want to wait for her to wake up and sign, go ahead."

With that, he used facial recognition to enter the estate.

The property worker quickly called out, "Mr. Palmer, since you live with Ms. Jones, you can sign for her."

Dean turned back, disdainful, "I thought it needed her personal signature?"

The property worker smiled obsequiously and handed over the package.

Dean signed for it, took it, and weighed it in his hand, frowning, "Why does it smell weird?"

The property worker had already ridden away.

Dean placed the package on the entryway shelf.

He took a photo and sent it to Elizabeth, "Elizabeth, I signed for a package for you. Open it when you wake up."

Less than a minute later, Elizabeth came downstairs. Her hair was disheveled, and she looked haggard.

Susan approached, "Elizabeth, why don't you sleep a bit longer?"

Dean scratched his head apologetically, "Elizabeth, did I wake you?"

Elizabeth sat at the dining table and poured herself a glass of water, "No, I just can't sleep. Even though I'm exhausted, as soon as I lie down, I think of Francis. Maybe I need some diazepam."

Dean walked over, his expression serious, "Elizabeth, please don't push yourself so hard. You still have Nolan and Pearl, and you have me! Don't drive yourself to the brink, okay?"

Elizabeth drank her water, closed her eyes, and propped her head on her hand, nodding slightly, "Dean, don't worry, I won't collapse."

Susan reminded her, "By the way, Elizabeth, did you order something online? There's a package for you."

Elizabeth opened her eyes, "No, I haven't shopped online in a long time."

She suddenly thought of something else, "Could it be someone responding to Michael's online post?"

Dean stood up and brought the package over, "It's this one. But it smells weird, so I left it at the door."

The last package had contained Louis' severed finger, giving Elizabeth a phobia of opening packages.

"Dean, could you open it for me? I'm worried it's something strange again."

Dean looked at it, "It is strange, there's no sender information."

He grabbed a pair of scissors and opened the box. With a gasp, he dropped the box to the floor.

Elizabeth and Susan looked over. Inside was a small kitten, about a month old, its neck twisted at an odd angle, long dead.

Elizabeth covered her mouth and ran to the bathroom, retching.

Dean quickly cleaned up the box.

Elizabeth hadn't eaten much, so her stomach was empty, and she didn't throw up anything. She washed her face and slowly came out, her face pale.

"Dean, someone is cursing Francis. But I'm helpless."

Dean looked at her with concern, his face full of sympathy, "Elizabeth, since you know it's a curse, don't let those bad people win! You need to eat well, rest well, and be there for Francis! Don't let yourself fall when he needs you the most!"

Elizabeth leaned on his shoulder, closing her eyes, tears silently falling, "Dean, am I useless right now?"

Dean gently lifted her head, "Not at all! To me, you'll always be the resilient Elizabeth! No matter how tough it gets, you won't give up easily!"

Behind them, Susan picked up her phone and quietly walked into the kitchen, closing the door.
