Chapter 496 Match

Elizabeth had already made up her mind. "Anthony."

She thought it over; she didn't want to lie to him. But she couldn't tell him everything either.

Michael was taken aback by her answer. He had expected her to lie.

It seemed Anthony had already told her about his visit.

He decided to dig deeper. "Are you still in touch with him? You two broke up years ago. What could you possibly have to talk about? About who?"

Elizabeth bit her lip, struggling to find the words. "About..."

She couldn't say it was Eloise, so she said, "About Quinn."

Michael's eyebrows furrowed, and his face darkened. "Quinn? You still care about him?"

He harbored deep resentment towards Quinn.

It was this man who had swapped identities with him.

If that mistake had never happened, would he have met Elizabeth? Would he have become the Michael he was today, with all this wealth and power?

Quinn was a thorn in his side.

Elizabeth lowered her head and said nothing.

Michael slammed his phone down on the nearby table, threw off the covers, and got out of bed.

He left the room, went downstairs, and headed to the dining room.

Elizabeth followed closely behind him.

Michael took a bottle of red wine from the wine cabinet and opened it.

Just as he was about to reach for a glass, Elizabeth quickly grabbed his hand.

"Michael."

She looked at him with concern.

He turned his head away, ignoring her.

Elizabeth took the bottle and moved it far away, then turned back and hugged Michael from behind.

Her cheek gently rested against his back, and she spoke softly, "Michael, I don't want you to misunderstand me. But I want you to know, you're the only man in my heart. I love only you."

Michael didn't push her away but scoffed coldly. "What about Dean? Louis? Carter? Quinn?"

Elizabeth chuckled softly. "Dean and the others are just my friends."

Michael's face remained cold. "Carter is eyeing you. I don't believe you can't see that."

Elizabeth reassured him, "But I've clearly rejected him. He knows that."

She moved in front of him, looked up, and whispered, "It's late. Let's not wake Pearl, okay? Let's go back."

Michael sighed lightly. "Alright."

Elizabeth lifted his arm and smiled at him. "Carry me back, okay?"

Michael's face showed no expression, but he still extended his arms and carried her back to the room.

Back in bed, Elizabeth turned off the light and leaned against Michael.

For the first time, they fell asleep with heavy hearts.

The next morning, Elizabeth arrived at the office.

As soon as she entered, she closed the door and contacted Louis.

"Louie, did you see Quinn's test results? Are they compatible with Eloise?"

"Elizabeth, I saw the report. It was late at night for you back home, so I didn't want to disturb you."

"What are the results?"

"Perfect match."

Elizabeth heard the news and couldn't describe her feelings.

She hoped Quinn's match would save Eloise, but she also secretly wished it wouldn't, so Michael wouldn't have to make a painful decision.

She knew this thought was selfish.

If Michael had to choose... he wouldn't hesitate; he would save Eloise.

She spoke weakly, "Alright, Louie, I understand. I'll contact Quinn and get his consent to donate. But this might not succeed."

"Elizabeth, I understand. Eloise's periods of consciousness are getting shorter. Whenever she wakes up, she begs me not to tell you the truth. I can see she misses Michael deeply, but she doesn't want to burden any of you."

Elizabeth felt a bitter sadness. Eloise had risked her life to save Francis, and now, she was dying but still thinking of them.

Elizabeth buried her face in her hands, hiding her shameful tears, and whispered, "Goodbye, Louie. I'll try my best."

Dean entered her office and asked in surprise, "Elizabeth, why are you crying?"

Elizabeth wiped her tears. "Dean, I have something weighing on my mind."

Dean sat across from her desk. "I'm a good listener."

Elizabeth told him everything and confided, "Dean, I've been struggling with whether to tell Michael."

Dean advised her, "Elizabeth, if you keep this from him, it's like planting a ticking time bomb between you two."

"But I've already kept it from him for so long."

"Do you want him to hear it from someone else or from you?"

Elizabeth shook her head, uncertain. "He won't hear it from anyone else."

Dean urged her, "Elizabeth, there's no such thing as a secret that won't come out."

Elizabeth held her head in pain. "I didn't want him to suffer."

Dean lifted her head. "This wasn't a big deal, but now, it's causing you so much pain."

Elizabeth suddenly remembered something else. "I haven't asked Quinn's opinion yet. William and Anthony won't let me see him."

Dean reminded her, "And when you do see him? How will you ask him? 'Quinn, you have a twin sister who's dying and needs your kidney. Will you donate it?' Is that your plan?"

Elizabeth was at a loss for words.

Dean pressed her, "Can you face Quinn and ask him that?"

Elizabeth shook her head in pain.

Dean shook her shoulders. "So why are you being so foolish, Elizabeth? Why are you bearing this alone? This should be Michael's burden! He might even think you're betraying him right now!"

"Dean, you don't understand. If it were anyone else, it would be different. But it's Quinn! Do you know what Quinn means to Michael? He doesn't want to face Quinn!"

Dean grew anxious. "Did William and Anthony say what they want?"

Elizabeth struggled to speak, "They want Michael's Stellar Enterprises."

Dean's eyes widened. "Are they crazy? That's too greedy!"

Elizabeth nodded. "That's why I'm even more afraid to tell Michael."

Dean worried for her. "If you don't tell him, will William and Anthony agree to let you see Quinn?"

"Quinn is a person, an individual. They have no right to imprison him."

"True, but if they hide Quinn, you can't do anything."

"So, Dean, I plan to give the Jones Group to William and Anthony first. After I see Quinn, I'll make other plans."

Elizabeth finished speaking and couldn't bear to look at Dean.
