Chapter 146 Have Children Early
Elizabeth had no clue why Calla had shown up, so she asked politely, "Ms. Griffin, what brings you here?"
Calla grinned. "Oh, nothing major. How about we grab a bite and chat? I know a great spot nearby. Wanna give it a shot?"
Elizabeth knew the place well. She often ate there when she couldn't make it home for lunch.
"Did you drive here?" Elizabeth asked.
Calla's smile stayed put. "The driver brought me."
Elizabeth remembered Calla was now Michael's girlfriend, with the Thomas Family's driver and bodyguards at her beck and call.
Elizabeth drove herself, while Kara was brought to the restaurant by the Thomas family's car. Before going in, she whispered something to the bodyguard.
Kara found a seat by the window and took out her phone to start ordering.
Elizabeth parked her car and arrived at the restaurant a bit later. As she entered, she noticed one of Michael's bodyguards and casually nodded at him.
After ordering, Calla kept her usual smile. "Ms. Jones, when I was studying for my master's abroad, I heard about you. In a way, we're classmates."
"Oh, really." Elizabeth responded coolly, thinking, 'You didn't come just for a casual chat. There's more to this.'
Seeing Elizabeth's indifferent reaction, Calla continued, "Ms. Jones, I heard you left your medical research career to start a company. Is that true?"
Elizabeth nodded. "Yes."
"Ms. Jones, that's impressive. Running a company must be lucrative. Unlike me, working at a hospital for peanuts."
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow. "Well then. Quit and serve Michael well. He won't treat you poorly."
Calla looked a bit embarrassed and lowered her head. "Michael did mention giving me some money."
Elizabeth smiled lightly. "As long as you cure Eloise's illness, Michael won't treat you badly. If you can cure her, the reward will be even bigger."
Calla touched her phone. "Michael said he'd pay me a lot, but how can I take so much? I only want what I deserve."
Elizabeth crossed her legs and leaned back. A faint, ambiguous smile played on her lips. "Ms. Griffin, what do you mean by 'what you deserve'? Is being Michael's girlfriend part of that?"
Elizabeth didn't mind Michael having a girlfriend, but not someone like Calla. Calla was too scheming and lacked character. She didn't even perform the surgery but dared to take credit for it.
She even used this to threaten Michael, and he actually bought it. Elizabeth couldn't stand it.
Calla's gaze turned sharp. "Ms. Jones, what do you mean by that? Sounds a bit rude."
"Does it?" Elizabeth shrugged. "Sorry, I don't like beating around the bush; it's too exhausting."
Calla smirked confidently. "Really? Are you sure you're not jealous of me? After all, Michael divorced you. Now, he's my legitimate boyfriend."
Elizabeth laughed. "Are you kidding me? Get your facts straight. Why would I be jealous of you? Michael is a man I didn't want. You took him off my hands, and I'm glad. Why would I be jealous? Am I crazy?"
Calla squinted her eyes. "Do you think I believe you? Ms. Jones, since you're divorced, I hope you recognize your position. You're just Michael's ex-wife now. I hope you won't continue to see or contact him."
Elizabeth couldn't help but laugh again. "Didn't you say you're Michael's legitimate girlfriend? Why so insecure? Afraid I'll take him away? Or," she leaned closer, resting her elbows on the table, "is your relationship a bit undefined?"
Calla seemed hit in a sore spot. She frowned immediately.
"Elizabeth! What nonsense are you talking about? Eloise's condition is very complicated. It's hard to find someone who can restore her to normal. And I," Calla pointed to herself, "can perform surgery on her. I can provide her with follow-up treatment."
Elizabeth stared into her eyes, smiling meaningfully. "So that's it. Michael is grateful to you, so he agreed to be your boyfriend? That's quite a sacrifice."
Calla was provoked again.
"Elizabeth, why are you always so sarcastic? I think you're just mad I took Michael away. You're jealous. What can you do about it?" Calla raised her head arrogantly. "You've let down Emily by abandoning your medical career and starting a company. She invested so much in your training, and you wasted it all. It's a shame. You wasted such good medical resources. Now, she's passed away. It's too late for regrets. Admit it, your surgical skills will never surpass mine. Your medical skills will never be as good as mine. So, only I can help Michael. Only I can perform surgery on Eloise."
Elizabeth looked at Calla with a probing gaze. "Really? Did you perform Eloise's surgery? Are your surgical skills that advanced? When I graduated from my master's program, you had already started working and were no longer in Emily's lab. You had no chance to know the surgical plan she developed for Eloise. Even Emily herself wasn't very confident in this plan. Ms. Griffin, you are quite impressive! You performed Eloise's surgery so well in one go. It seems Michael needs someone like you. You two are a perfect match. I wish you an early marriage. Have kids soon. May you be a loving couple forever."
