Chapter 337 Discovering the Dark Web

Dean took her empty bowl and headed back into the kitchen to serve her another helping of oatmeal.

"You got caught in the rain last night and came down with a fever. You fainted. Louis didn't want to risk giving you any meds, so I brought you home. Michael was waiting for you at the door. He took care of you all night."

He passed her the bowl. "I don't know what he did to bring your fever down, but when he left this morning, his eyes were red."

Elizabeth had a pretty good idea of what he did.

She had moments of clarity last night and could feel a cold body holding her.

That body carried a familiar scent that made her feel incredibly safe.

Years ago, when they were still together, she had told him an old story.

In the story, the heroine used her body to cool down the feverish hero. Later, they got married and lived happily ever after.

She thought he must have remembered that story. But she had also told him that the heroine had a high fever the next day from being in the cold all night and almost died.

Fortunately, the hero's subordinates found them in time and got them medical help.

Did Michael forget? This method was very risky for him.

As Elizabeth sipped her oatmeal, she thought silently, he must have known. But to ensure her fever went down safely, he chose to take the risk himself.

This man, so foolish...

After finishing her oatmeal, Dean had already changed his clothes. "Elizabeth, take the day off and rest at home. I'll go to the office. If anything comes up, I'll call you."

Elizabeth nodded. "Alright."

A lot had happened recently, and she needed to take care of her health and calm her mind.

Elizabeth fell into thought. "Dean, I think the person who caused Calla's death didn't intend for her to die. Their real target was probably me."

Dean was about to open the door but turned back when he heard this.

"Elizabeth, leave this to me. I'll investigate thoroughly. If I can't handle it, there's always Michael. Don't take any risks alone. If you're the target, you need to be extra careful."

Elizabeth nodded. "I understand. Go to work."

At a restaurant, Margaret and Octavia sat in a private room.

Margaret angrily cut into her steak. "I can't believe Calla was so weak. Losing her sight and she jumps off a building? Pathetic!"

Octavia agreed. "Exactly! We were counting on her to get revenge on Elizabeth! And she just let her off so easily?"

Margaret chewed her steak, her eyes cold. "Calla's death at least removes a potential threat, even if it was a minor one. Octavia, we don't need to be too upset."

Octavia looked up. "Margaret, do you have another plan?"

Margaret smirked. "I just realized Calla's death might still be useful. No one knows who really blinded her. At least in Michael's mind, Calla's death is linked to Elizabeth. As long as they can't find the real culprit, Calla's death will be a wedge between them. This conflict will fester, and even the strongest relationship can't withstand that kind of strain."

She raised her wine glass with a triumphant smile. "As their conflict deepens, they'll eventually hate each other. That's when we make our move."

Octavia's face lit up with a sinister smile. "Margaret, with Calla gone, we have no more pawns. It's time for us to act directly."

Margaret glanced at her. "You got a plan?"

Octavia leaned in. "Margaret, we can do this..."

After explaining, she looked at Margaret expectantly.

Margaret gave her an approving look and nodded. "Good idea. This will ruin Elizabeth for good. Not only will Michael reject her, but every man will find her repulsive."

Octavia, pleased with the approval, raised her glass to Margaret. "Margaret, to our success."

That evening, Dean returned to Whispering Pines Estates.

After dinner, Nolan approached Dean. "Dean, can I use your computer?"

Dean glanced at Elizabeth.

Elizabeth noticed their eager looks. "Go ahead, but not for too long."

She felt a bit puzzled. Hadn't she already returned Nolan's computer? Why did he need Dean's? Was his computer too old?

Elizabeth shook her head, dismissing the thought.

Nolan followed Dean to his room and quickly shut the door behind them.

Dean leaned against the desk, arms crossed, looking at Nolan inquisitively. "Nolan, what's up? Why do you need to talk to me alone?"

Nolan walked over. "How did you know I had something to say?"

Dean replied confidently, "You're my apprentice. How could I not know when you have something on your mind?"

Nolan opened Dean's laptop. "Dean, I need to show you something."

He pulled up a website and whispered, "Dean, take a look at this."

Dean sat down, his expression growing serious as he read. "When did you find this?"

Nolan sat beside him. "I hacked into Octavia's phone. This is a site she visited many times. But since she came to Celestria, she hasn't logged in."

Dean turned to him, placing his hands on Nolan's shoulders.

"Nolan, this is the dark web of the Valoria black market. Hacking in like this, they'll notice quickly. From now on, leave this to me. Don't get involved, understand?"

Nolan nodded solemnly. "I know. I'm just a kid. I shouldn't mess with this."

Dean nodded. "Exactly. It's dangerous. Let me handle it. Did you find anything else?"

Nolan explained, "There's human trafficking on this site. Octavia is involved."

Dean glanced at the screen. "Got it. I'll follow up. Now go back to the living room and spend time with your mom."

Nolan gave Dean a serious look. "I've signed up for a summer camp. I'll be away soon. Take good care of Mom and Pearl."

Dean replied, "Of course. Are you going to the camp alone? Let me take you."

Nolan shook his head. "No need. I'm not a little kid."

Dean laughed. "You're not even six. How are you not a kid? You just said you were a kid a moment ago."
