Chapter 128 Things Are Not Like That
Michael just brushed Matthew off.
But Matthew kept going. "Michael, come on. You've got money, looks, a great body, and status. You usually treat Elizabeth well, so why's she so set on divorcing you? There's gotta be a reason! We all thought she was the one messing up, but turns out, you messed up first! If she liked you, she wouldn’t put up with Eloise being around! If I were a woman, I wouldn’t put up with you either."
Michael looked up, frowning. "What are you even talking about? Are you gonna eat or not? I gotta head out soon to see Eloise, so hurry up."
Matthew leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, staring at him. "I ordered all this for you. You should eat more. Do you really not care about Elizabeth anymore? What if Dr. Griffin really asks to be with you, what will you do? Would you actually agree to it, just to treat Eloise?"
Michael didn't want to make assumptions about things that hadn't happened yet. He grabbed a napkin, wiped his mouth, and stood up. "I'm done. Let's go."
Matthew was taken aback. "Really? Come on, just answer the questions!"
The next second, Michael's phone rang. It was Calla. "Mr. Thomas, where are you? Eloise is awake, and she's a bit unstable. Please come ASAP."
Hearing this, he bolted for the door. "I'm nearby, I'll be right there."
Matthew grabbed his coat and hurried after him. "Michael, wait up!"
Elizabeth watched them leave in a rush.
She checked the time. It was about that time – Eloise must have woken up.
Michael left in such a hurry, it must be to see Eloise.
She thought, 'He really cares about Eloise. Even though Eloise's mental age is only three, Michael treasures her more than anything.'
Sarah also looked out the window. "Michael left in such a hurry. That call must've been about Eloise, right?"
She turned to Elizabeth. "Elizabeth, I don't get Michael. From the way he looks at you, it's clear he has feelings for you. But he can't let go of Eloise." She shook her head. "People are so complicated, I just don't get it."
Elizabeth chuckled. "Yeah, don't overthink it."
Sarah laughed. "So, now that you're divorced from Michael, what's your plan? I think I know someone you'd get along with great. I'd love to introduce you. You're single now, still young and beautiful, it'd be a shame not to date!"
Elizabeth shook her head. "Dating's just not for me right now. I'm all about my career and I want to focus on that."
Sarah suddenly remembered something. "Ms. CEO! I almost forgot you're rebuilding the Jones Group! If my current path doesn't work out, I'd love to explore opportunities at the Jones Group. Then you can pay me a good salary and bonuses, how about that?"
Elizabeth smiled. "If you want to join, you're more than welcome."
Meanwhile, Michael arrived at the hospital.
Eloise was sitting on the bed, looking a bit anxious. Calla was by her side, trying to calm her down.
Calla reached out to take Eloise's hand, but Eloise pulled away, her face a mix of fear and rejection. She didn't want to be in the same room with Calla; she didn't even know her. She wanted to leave but didn't know where to go.
Before she fell asleep, Elizabeth was always with her, taking care of her, and comforting her gently. She thought, 'Where did Elizabeth go?'
Calla said, "Eloise, try to relax. I'm Calla, your surgeon. You were in a very serious condition, so I had to perform brain surgery. You've just woken up, take it easy. Mr. Thomas will be here soon."
At that moment, Michael pushed the VIP ward door open. "Eloise!"
Seeing him, Eloise immediately reached out her hands.
Michael rushed to the bedside and held her hands. Eloise seemed very averse to Clara.
He then turned to Calla, "Dr. Griffin, I'd like to talk to Eloise alone. Could you please step out for a moment?"
Calla stood up and nodded gently. "Okay."
She walked out of the room, her face calm, though her heart pounded with anxiety. She wondered if Eloise remembered who had performed the surgery.
She thought, 'Would Eloise expose me?'
Calla then reassured herself: Eloise had been unconscious and under anesthesia before the surgery. She wouldn't remember who performed it.
Eloise's eyes followed Calla's back until she left the room. Then Eloise turned to Michael and whispered, "Michael, save me."
Michael patted her hand soothingly and asked gently, "What's wrong, Eloise?"
Eloise asked him, "Michael, who was that person? She was so scary; she kept trying to grab my hand." She shook her head in fear. "I don't know her at all; why is she here?"
Michael carefully observed her facial expressions.
From her language, he was pleasantly surprised to find Eloise's expressions were no longer childlike. The surgery seemed a success, and her intelligence had greatly improved.
Michael gently said to her, "Eloise, you don't need to be afraid of her. She is Calla, and she was the doctor who performed your surgery. Someone called 911 after you fainted and took you to the hospital. Calla saved your life by performing the surgery."
Eloise looked at Michael with suspicion and pointed to herself. "She performed surgery on me? I fainted?"
She shook her head in confusion, and a pained expression appeared on her face. "No, that's not it."
Seeing Eloise's painful expression, Michael hugged her and gently patted her back to calm her down. "Eloise, it's okay to be a little confused right now. Just focus on resting. Everything's going to be alright. I'm here, and you don't need to be afraid of anything. Now, lie down and rest for a while, okay?"
