Chapter 91 Making His Wish Come True
The winter wind nipped at Elizabeth's face. She turned and hugged Michael.
"This is incredible. I've never gone this fast in a wheelchair before," Elizabeth said, surprised.
Michael asked, "You cold?"
Elizabeth nodded, "Yeah, a bit."
"Okay, I'll slow down." Michael adjusted the button, and the wheelchair eased up.
Soon, they were back to the Thomas Villa.
As soon as they got to the entrance, Elizabeth quickly got off Michael.
"Sorry for sitting on your legs. Are you okay?" Elizabeth asked.
Michael patted her hand. "I'm not that fragile, don't worry."
They walked into the living room, where the guests were still waiting.
The bodyguard had already filled Matthew and the others in on what happened outside.
Seeing Michael and Elizabeth return safely, Matthew and the others relaxed.
Matthew stood up and said, "Michael, you and Elizabeth should go upstairs and rest for a bit."
Michael said, "No rush, we'll go up later."
As they were talking, Susan came in. "Mr. Thomas, the restaurant delivered the beef vegetable soup you ordered."
"Bring it over," Michael said.
Matthew and the others, seeing that they had safely arrived home, took their leave and departed.
Michael and Elizabeth sat at the dining table, sipping soup.
After finishing the soup, Michael asked Elizabeth, "Do you want to rest in your room for a bit?"
Elizabeth said shyly, "I've already taken my stuff back. I should go back to rest. You need the rest more than I do. I won't disturb you."
Susan said, "Mrs. Thomas, Mr. Thomas has already prepared clean clothes for you in your room. As for the bedding, we have everything ready at home, no need to prepare anything special. After what happened outside today, why don't you stay and rest here?"
Elizabeth thought for a moment and couldn't find a reason to refuse.
She said softly, "Alright, I'll lie down for a bit before leaving."
These days, she had gotten up early and had been busy knitting a scarf for Michael, so she hadn't rested well.
Opening the door to the room, Susan helped her make the bed comfortable. She looked at the room she had once stayed in, feeling nostalgic.
Elizabeth turned around and found Michael had also entered her room.
Elizabeth suddenly felt a bit nervous, "Michael, why did you come in with me? Aren't you going back to your own room?"
Michael said, "I'll go back later. I just wanted to check on you. I'll leave once you fall asleep."
Elizabeth gently pushed him out, "You should go back to your room. How can I sleep with you around my bed?"
Michael grabbed her hand, looking at her earnestly. "Elizabeth, today is my birthday. Don't you want to know what I wished for?"
Elizabeth naturally followed up, "What did you wish for?"
Michael asked her, "If I tell you, will you make my wish come true?"
Elizabeth said, "It depends. After all, I'm not God. I'm just an ordinary person."
Michael said, "This wish can only be fulfilled by you."
"What did you wish for?" Elizabeth asked, curious.
"I hope you can stay with me this year," Michael said, his eyes locked on hers, reflecting her image.
His gaze was full of hope and longing.
Elizabeth sat down on the bed. "I can't promise a year, but considering today is your birthday, I can stay here tonight."
Michael's eyes lit up. He silently thought, 'Not just tonight, but every night from now on.'
But he didn't dare say it out loud.
Elizabeth was so sensitive and stubborn. Michael didn't want to push her too hard.
He told himself to be patient and take it slow. They had so many days ahead to be together.
Elizabeth lay down on the bed, and Michael pulled the blanket over her, sitting beside her, watching. "Good night. I promised I wouldn't disturb you."
Elizabeth didn't expect to fall asleep so quickly. When she woke up, it was already dark outside. She saw Michael by the bed and asked in surprise, "Have you been here the whole time? Didn't you say you'd go back once I fell asleep? Why didn't you rest? You're still recovering."
Michael said, "It's alright. I didn't feel tired here. Susan has already prepared dinner. Freshen up, and I'll join you."
Elizabeth said, "Alright, you go first. I need to freshen up in the bathroom."
Michael said, "Okay, come out when you're ready."
When Elizabeth walked into the dining room, Michael was already sitting at the table and signaled her to sit accross from him.
Elizabeth smiled and began to eat.
Michael peeled a shrimp and placed it on Elizabeth's plate.
Elizabeth picked it up, dipped it in sauce, and ate it in one bite.
"Wow, delicious," Elizabeth praised.
She pushed the sauce dish towards Michael. "Try dipping the shrimp in this sauce; it tastes perfect."
Michael peeled another shrimp, dipped it in the sauce, and tasted it. "Definitely, Susan got the flavor just right."
Elizabeth handed Michael the soup. "Have some soup. It's really good."
She then scooped a spoonful and brought it to Michael.
Michael drank it, his eyes filled with warmth. "It's very good."
Michael scooped a spoonful and brought it to Elizabeth. "Have some soup."
Elizabeth turned her head and drank the spoonful of soup. She asked Michael, "Do you want to try Susan's pasta?"
Michael said, "Sure."
Michael found the dinner today especially delicious.
Elizabeth felt that she and Michael rarely had such peaceful moments together.
Was this what other people's married life was like?
No arguments, no coldness. Eating together, resting together. Talking calmly, discussing things together.
In each other's eyes, they saw reflections of themselves.
Elizabeth suddenly felt a pang of sadness.
The time she had with Michael like this wouldn't last long.
After dinner, Elizabeth pushed Michael into the living room.
They had just sat down on the sofa when Mary hurriedly pushed the door open and walked in.
Seeing her, Elizabeth instinctively intended to leave as she didn't want to get slapped again.
Mary called out to her. "Elizabeth, wait."
