Chapter 199 I'll Drink for You
Michael cleared his throat.
He looked down and asked, "Hey Daniel, you up for some overtime?"
Daniel frowned, not sure how to respond.
He quickly said, "Mr. Thomas, if you need me, I'm in!"
Michael nodded, looking pleased. "Great. So, you wanna work late or hit up the banquet for some food and drinks?"
Daniel was taken aback.
Who in their right mind would pick the first option?
Only Daniel, who knew Michael well, could get it. "Mr. Thomas, if it's to check out the food at the banquet, I'm game..."
Before he could finish, Michael stood up. "Let's hit the banquet."
Daniel followed, wiping imaginary sweat from his forehead.
Michael's thoughts were harder to read than a woman's.
Sarah was chatting with Elizabeth when a buzz went through the banquet hall.
Everyone, including Sarah and Elizabeth, turned to look at the entrance.
Michael, in a sharp black suit, walked in with Daniel.
He was tall and stood straight, making him stand out.
The black suit made him look even more handsome, and he moved with such grace.
Sarah nudged Elizabeth and whispered, "Your ex is here. Looks like he still wants to see you. Wanna go say hi?"
Elizabeth took a sip of her wine.
She didn't move.
Sarah teased, "Bet how long you can hold out."
Dean's voice cut in, "Didn't someone say they weren't coming to the banquet?"
Daniel shot Dean a look.
Dean squeezed past Daniel and handed Michael a glass of wine. "Mr. Thomas, you're a hard man to get out. Glad you made it."
He signaled a waiter to pour wine for Michael.
Dean raised his glass to Michael. "We're really grateful you could join us tonight. On behalf of our Elizabeth, thank you."
Michael didn't drink. He looked at Dean, expressionless. "Elizabeth's banquet, who are you to her? How can you speak for her?"
Daniel quickly whispered to Michael. "Mr. Thomas, it's Elizabeth's party. Let's not make things awkward, show some respect to Dean."
Dean glared at them. "What are you two whispering about? Speak up!"
Daniel looked at Dean, speechless.
Dean shouted, "Daniel, we invited you out of goodwill, and now you say you're too busy to come? Is this payback for not inviting you last time?"
Daniel was about to retort, but Michael cut in. "Sorry, we were swamped with work and couldn't get away. As soon as we finished, we rushed over. Hope we didn't ruin the fun."
Daniel widened his eyes at Michael. In his mind, he gave Michael a thumbs up.
Michael was truly the boss, lying so smoothly.
After saying this, Michael raised his glass and downed it.
Dean was stunned.
Elizabeth was still chatting with Sarah.
Sarah said, "Elizabeth, do you like the birthday gift I gave you?"
"I love it! Seriously, Sarah, thank you so much! I never expected you to take so many photos of me and make a college-time memorial album. When I'm old, I'll definitely look through it and reminisce about my youth. I barely have any photos on my phone." Elizabeth felt a bit guilty for not taking any photos of Sarah during college.
Sarah hugged her. "Elizabeth, I know you too well. In college, you were either buried in your studies or wrapped up in your relationship. When would you have had time to take photos of me? But remember, I love taking selfies! I have tons of them on my phone."
Elizabeth hugged Sarah tightly, her eyes getting misty. "Sarah, I'm so lucky to have met you and become good friends with you."
Sarah patted her back. "Don't forget, we promised to be best friends for life!"
Elizabeth said, "Sarah, I will definitely cherish the gift you gave me."
Matthew walked over and raised his glass to Elizabeth. "Ms. Jones, a toast to you."
Elizabeth raised her glass and took a sip.
Daniel and David also raised their glasses to her, and Elizabeth responded to each of them. Soon, more people came over to toast Elizabeth.
Elizabeth raised her glass to drink, but unexpectedly, Michael grabbed her hand holding the glass.
He glanced at her lightly.
Elizabeth looked at him in shock, not understanding what he was doing.
Michael took her glass and drank it all.
Elizabeth's hand was still in mid-air. She said, "Michael, that's my glass."
Michael looked at her steadily. "I know. So what?"
Elizabeth was speechless. "You..."
Michael extended the empty glass. "Pour me some wine."
Daniel quickly poured him some wine.
Whenever another guest came to toast, Michael drank for Elizabeth before she could say anything.
Elizabeth stood there, speechless and unsure of what to say.
Soon, the guests started whispering.
"The beautiful CEO of the Jones Group and Michael of Stellar Enterprises seem to have an unusual relationship."
"Since ancient times, even heroes have found it hard to resist beautiful women. Michael is young and vigorous, and Elizabeth is young and beautiful. They make a good match."
"But it seems Michael cares more about Elizabeth."
"Women, when being pursued, always have to be a bit reserved."
The employees of the Jones Group, especially the young girls in the CEO's office, loved gossiping about Elizabeth.
"Dean is definitely out of the picture. He seems to have become good friends with our Ms. Jones."
"Daniel hasn't been visiting Elizabeth much lately. Why isn't he more proactive?"
"Michael is the best. He has the looks, the body, and the money."
"Look at Michael and Elizabeth standing together, they look so perfect!"
"I've always said, Michael is the ultimate winner."
"Don't rush, it's not over yet. Don't jump to conclusions so soon."
Elizabeth and Michael stood side by side, leaning against the balcony railing, watching the crowd.
Elizabeth pouted. "Great, now everyone is talking about our relationship. Are you happy?"
Michael glanced at Elizabeth beside him. "I didn't think that far. I just didn't want them to make you drink. Didn't you say you don't like drinking? So, I came to drink for you."
