Chapter 37 He Came to Pick Her Up Personally

The stranger had a mask on and his hat pulled down low. Elizabeth couldn't see his face, just that he was tall and kinda scary. She knew she didn't stand a chance against him.

Elizabeth quickly put on a smile and said, "Can you untie me? I mean, I can't run away anyway."

To her surprise, the kidnapper was chill about it and untied her. As he did, he said, "You look like a little chick. Even if I let you run, you wouldn't get far."

Elizabeth glanced at her clothes and shoes, sighing to herself. Dressed like this, she wouldn't get far before getting caught.

She asked the guy in front of her, "Why'd you bring me here? You want ransom money or something?"

The kidnapper replied, "The person who hired me didn't mention money. He just wants me to ask you a few questions. Just answer honestly."

Elizabeth felt a tiny bit of hope and said, "What questions? Ask away. As long as I know the answers, I'll tell you."

The guy seemed a bit impatient. "Enough, just answer what I ask honestly."

Elizabeth nodded like crazy, "Okay."

The guy said sternly, "You gotta answer truthfully. If I find out you're lying, I can kidnap you again just as easily."

Elizabeth nodded, looking at him with fear.

The guy suddenly seemed a bit softer and asked, "Have you been to The Jones Group building?"

Elizabeth realized this was about her, not Michael.

She nodded, "Yeah, I've been there."

The guy asked another question, "Do you know there's a safe in the CEO's office?"

Elizabeth nodded, "Yeah, I know."

"Do you know the combination to the safe?"

Elizabeth thought for a moment and nodded, "Yeah, I do."

"Did you take something from the safe?"

"Yeah, I did."

Just as the guy was about to ask more, Elizabeth's phone rang.

The guy took her phone from her bag. The caller ID showed The Thomas Family Landline.

He glanced at it and asked Elizabeth, "Do you know someone from the Thomas Family?"

Elizabeth nodded, "Yeah, I do."

The guy asked, "Did someone from the Thomas Family take you to the party at the estate tonight?"

"Yeah."

The guy was shocked, "You even have their landline number. Are you close with someone from the Thomas Family?"

"Well, let's just say a man from the Thomas Family took me to the party," Elizabeth replied.

"Among the men in the Thomas Family around your age, it must be Anthony, right?" the guy asked.

"Yeah, yeah, you're right. You're so smart!" Elizabeth nodded vigorously and gave him a thumbs up.

The guy didn't do anything to Elizabeth. He stood up and said, "The person who hired me said he already knew you took the item. He just wants to know where you put it."

Elizabeth said, "I wouldn't carry it with me. I live at school, and it's not safe to keep it in the dorm. I gave it to someone trustworthy to keep for me. This person has money and wouldn't be tempted by it, and we're close."

The guy grew impatient, "Just tell me who this person is!"

Elizabeth grinned, "Didn't I tell you? Who took me to the party tonight? Go find that person."

The guy suddenly got it, "Oh, Anthony, right? Got it."

He walked towards the car door.

"The person who hired me only asked me to kidnap you and ask you questions, not to take you back. Besides, taking you back would be a hassle. Stay here and see when your family comes to find you." With that, the guy drove off.

Elizabeth looked up at the dark sky and the empty surroundings.

She was only wearing the dress from the party, and the cold wind made her shiver. She quickly took out her phone and called Susan, "Susan, it's me, Elizabeth."

"Mrs. Thomas, you finally answered! Where have you been?" Susan sounded worried.

"Never mind that. I was just kidnapped. I'm in the suburbs now. I'll send you my location. Have the driver come get me."

Susan had her phone on speaker.

So Michael heard everything Elizabeth said.

Hearing that Elizabeth had been kidnapped, Michael furrowed his brows tightly, and his eyes turned fierce.

In Aurora Bay, there were actually kidnappers bold enough to take Elizabeth right under his nose.

He called over his bodyguards.

Michael had Susan forward Elizabeth's location to the driver's phone.

Soon, Michael and the bodyguards got into the car.

As soon as Michael got in, he sternly instructed the driver, "Drive fast, but safely."

"Yes, Mr. Thomas."

"Turn on the heat," Michael said.

"Yes, Mr. Thomas," the driver responded.

The black Rolls-Royce sped down the road like a cheetah.

The car drove further and further from the city, into more desolate areas.

Michael's face remained cold.

It was so late. She must be scared, alone in such a dark and desolate place.

When they reached Elizabeth's location, the bodyguards and driver got out and helped the shivering Elizabeth to the car.

Michael didn't get out. He watched Elizabeth's disheveled state through the window.

He said, "You should've just come with me."

Elizabeth hadn't expected Michael to come for her so late.

She muttered, "How was I supposed to know someone would kidnap me? If I'd known, I would've stuck to you like gum."

This seemed to please Michael.

His cold expression softened slightly, and a small smile appeared.

The bodyguards helped Elizabeth into the back seat.

It wasn't until she was seated in the car that her tense nerves finally relaxed.

Inside the car, the air was warm and cozy, which soon made her eyelids droop.

She had inhaled some kind of drug earlier. In the cold air outside, she hadn't felt sleepy.

Michael noticed her silence and asked, "What did the kidnapper look like? Why did he bring you here and did nothing to you?"

The only response was silence.

Michael turned slightly and saw that Elizabeth had fallen asleep.

Her head rested against the window, her arms still hugging herself.
