Chapter 588 Surrogacy

David quickly scrambled out of bed, trying to stop his mom. "Mom, please don't go!"

Jolin stood there, looking at him with a calm expression.

David scratched his messy hair, frustrated, and stomped his foot. "She said she needs a few days to cool off."

"Cool off from what? You two are just avoiding the issue!" Jolin frowned. "I know you care about her. We don't oppose you being together. But as long as the issue with the child isn't resolved, the conflict between you will always be there!"

"It's not about the child!" David retorted. "I just don't like her always going out for social events."

"Doesn't her family's business require socializing?" Jolin countered.

David was speechless.

"You need to be more understanding of her." Jolin softened her tone. "The doctor said Sarah has difficulty getting pregnant. So from now on, let's not bring up the topic of children in front of her."

David looked at Jolin in surprise. Were they really this considerate?

"What we mean is, you can have a child with someone else." Jolin explained. "It's simple. We can pay a woman to have a child for you."

David found it hard to believe. He widened his eyes and whispered, "Mom! Are you crazy?"

He never knew Jolin could think like this.

Jolin thought he was overreacting. "What's the big deal? Plenty of wealthy people who can't have children find young women to have them for them. Since Sarah can't have a child, find someone else to do it. You two are still married, it won't affect your relationship."

"If Sarah finds out about this, she'll definitely divorce me!"

"Then let her! It's not your fault she can't have children." Jolin said indifferently.

Outside the bedroom, Sarah's hand trembled violently on the doorknob.

She knew that ever since the kidnapping incident, Jolin and Gareth no longer wanted her to stay with David.

They resented her for not being able to have children.

When she remarried David, they acted graciously, but they never gave up on the idea of David having a child.

Sarah's chest heaved with anger, but she held back and didn't push open the door.

She closed her eyes tightly, gripped her purse strap, and quickly ran down the stairs.

The housekeeper called after her, "Mrs. Franklin, are you leaving already? You just got back!"

Sarah ignored her, walked straight out the door, and drove away.

In the bedroom, David stared at Jolin in horror. He still couldn't believe these words came from her mouth.

He and Sarah had known and loved each other for so many years. Although they occasionally argued, they never considered divorce.

Gareth frowned. "Why are you so upset? We're not asking you to find another woman! Sarah's uterus isn't working, so pay for a healthy one to carry the baby. It'll still be your sperm and Sarah's egg! The child will still call her mom! This isn't betrayal!"

"Why don't you have another son?" David sneered. "Your idea is disgusting. I won't do it."

He said this while walking into the closet.

At noon, David called Sarah, but couldn't get through.

In the afternoon, he tried again, still no answer.

He started to panic and left work early to go to the Martinez Villa.

Wren greeted him warmly. "David, Sarah's got a lot of social events. Her dad forces her. Don't blame her."

"I'm not mad," David said. "Mom, Sarah isn't answering my calls, so I came to find her."

"Didn't she come to see you this morning?" Wren asked, puzzled.

"No." David was even more confused.

Wren said, "She left early this morning without even having breakfast to see you. I thought she wanted to talk to you. She took a thermos, probably to bring you breakfast."

David felt a chill in his heart. He asked, trembling, "Mom, what time did Sarah leave to see me?"

Wren shook her head. "I didn't notice, but it was very early. She's never left that early before."

David felt a deep sadness. Sarah had come home but didn't tell him. She must have heard his parents talking about finding another woman to have a child.

Given her usual temperament, if she had heard those words, she would have confronted them immediately.

This time, Sarah chose to leave without a word.

David held his head, thinking sadly. She must be heartbroken.

He wondered how much she had heard. Did she hear his determination?

David took out his phone, dialed Sarah's number, and hit call.

The phone responded with a "cannot connect" message.

He gave Wren a bitter smile. "Mom, Sarah blocked me."

In the intensive care unit of Silverline Hospital in Majestic City.

Elizabeth changed into a new isolation gown, walked to Michael's side, and used a cotton swab to moisten his lips.

She saw Michael's eyelids move slightly.

She called to him excitedly, "Michael, are you waking up? Do you know I'm here? Don't worry, I'll stay with you. When you wake up, we'll go home together. We'll live in my little villa. Our family will be happy together, never apart."

Elizabeth thought of something and quickly corrected herself. "Well, not always together. Pearl sometimes has to record shows. Nolan has to study abroad. I have to work, and you have to work too. But as long as our hearts are together, we can be happy."

She finished moistening his lips, put down the cotton swab, and started massaging his arms and legs.

She kept talking. "I never thought, after all these years, you'd be in a coma again, and I'd be massaging you again. This time, when you wake up, you won't accuse me of lusting after you, calling me a pervert, will you?"

In the waiting room, Cordelia was furious. She stared at Elizabeth, wishing she could bore holes into her.

A maid brought in a food box, set out the dishes on the table.

"Ms. Murphy, it's time to eat. Stop staring at her. No matter how much you stare, she won't disappear. You're carrying Mr. Thomas's child. You need to take care of yourself."

The maid handed Cordelia a spoon. "Ms. Murphy, if you don't have an appetite, at least drink some soup. You need to ensure your daily nutrition."

Cordelia stood up. "I have no appetite, I don't want to eat."

The maid glanced at Elizabeth in the ICU and sighed. "Ms. Murphy, let's go home. Taking care of a patient is hard and exhausting."

"Besides, we don't know when Mr. Thomas will wake up. Waiting here will wear you out. Don't you care about the baby?"
