Chapter 488 A Pawn
Anthony still had that indifferent look on his face. "Elizabeth, stop acting like you're so perfect. If you had to deal with what I did, tossing and turning every night, you'd want to smoke too."
Elizabeth waved her hand in front of her nose, trying to dispel the smoke, and frowned. "Anthony, so you hit a rough patch, and now your whole life is just doom and gloom?"
Anthony immediately got defensive. "Elizabeth! I was just starting to think better of you, and now you're mocking me! I thought you called me because you felt guilty! You must have known Michael's true identity all along! But you didn't tell me! You just watched him bully me! He shot my mother! He made me lose my mom! He bankrupted my company! He left me with massive debts! He even took my old mansion! Made me homeless!"
"Tell me, who wouldn't go crazy after all that? I used to tolerate him because I thought he was my real uncle! I thought he was family! So I didn't hold it against him! But now? Now I know he's not my real uncle. My real uncle is Quinn. Michael is just a thief! He stole my uncle's life! He even stole my grandmother's inheritance! The Thomas family estate is still in his hands!"
Elizabeth listened patiently to his indignant accusations against Michael, but internally, she was rolling her eyes.
She had thought Anthony had grown up, but he still hadn't realized his own issues, just like before, believed that Michael was always the one at fault.
However, Elizabeth needed something from him today, so she couldn't afford to anger him, even though she knew Anthony was talking nonsense.
Across from her, Anthony continued to vent his grievances.
Elizabeth was getting tired of listening. She didn't even want to drink the coffee in front of her, wondering how much of Anthony's spit had landed in it.
"Elizabeth, are you even listening to me? I'm telling you, when you get back, tell your husband to return our family's old mansion! And the Thomas family inheritance! Return it all!"
Elizabeth thought, 'You might as well go eat dirt!'
If it weren't for needing to find Quinn, she wouldn't have come to listen to Anthony's drivel!
She cleared her throat and adjusted her posture.
Anthony immediately stopped talking and stared at her.
"So, why did you ask me out?"
Elizabeth sighed inwardly, finally getting to the point.
She cleared her throat again and said seriously, "Anthony, I need to see your uncle."
Anthony rolled his eyes and said irritably, "You two are married! If you want to meet, just meet! Why tell me?"
Elizabeth didn't respond, just looked at him.
Anthony suddenly realized, "Oh, you mean my real uncle, Quinn?"
Elizabeth nodded. "Yes, I need to see Quinn. As soon as possible."
Anthony snorted. "Elizabeth, you just got married, haven't even finished your honeymoon, and you're already meeting other men. My uncle... No, Michael, won't he get jealous?"
Elizabeth was really fed up. "Maybe with other men. But with you, not a chance."
Anthony stood up angrily. "Elizabeth! Do you want to see Quinn or not?"
Elizabeth took a deep breath, trying to suppress her irritation. "Yes."
Anthony suddenly laughed. "Elizabeth, does Michael know how much you care about Quinn? If he knew, would he let you two off the hook? When you agreed to perform surgery on Quinn, did you have other intentions? A handsome fool, wouldn't he be at your mercy?"
His expression was so lewd that Elizabeth couldn't stand it anymore. She stood up abruptly.
The next second, she grabbed the coffee cup in front of her and threw it in Anthony's face.
There, that felt good.
She grabbed her bag and walked out, heels clicking.
Anthony, wiping coffee off his face, jumped up and down in rage. "Elizabeth! You just wait! I'll never let you see Quinn!"
Across the street from the café, in a Rolls-Royce parked next to a clothing store, the driver didn't dare to breathe.
The atmosphere in the car was tense.
Michael watched Elizabeth walk out of the café but didn't follow her.
He had just returned home, hadn't even had time to rest and adjust to the time difference, and had come out with his assistant to buy clothes for Elizabeth.
He had seen everything that happened in the café through the glass.
He didn't understand why Elizabeth was in such a hurry to end their honeymoon. If she missed the kids so much, why didn't she stay home with Francis and wait for Pearl?
Why was she so eager to meet Anthony, only to end up arguing with him?
Was she discussing something important with him that didn't work out?
Michael's brow furrowed deeply.
He was her husband. If she had a problem, why wouldn't she come to him for help instead of seeking an outsider's assistance?
Was he really that untrustworthy to her?
The assistant stood by the car, holding several shopping bags, and gently knocked on the window. "Mr. Thomas, the clothes are ready."
The driver, seeing no reaction from Michael, opened the driver's door and got out. "I'll take care of it."
Michael slowly unclenched his tightly held fists.
No, she was his new wife. He couldn't doubt her anymore. He had hurt her too many times already. He should give her a chance to explain.
He spoke hoarsely, "Let's go back."
The driver immediately started the car.
Elizabeth returned to Whispering Pines Estates and, after calming down, decided to call William.
"Mr. Thomas, when do you have time? Can we meet?"
William's voice was cold. "Ms. Jones, I don't recall us having any personal relationship."
Elizabeth didn't want to give up. "Mr. Thomas, I need to see Quinn."
William sneered. "Ms. Jones, Quinn is my brother. Watch your place and stop looking for him."
Elizabeth thought, 'This guy is just like Anthony.'
But since she needed his help, she couldn't afford to fall out with him, so she didn't argue.
"Mr. Thomas, can I at least contact Quinn by phone? I need to talk to him."
"Ms. Jones, you make it sound like I'm deliberately preventing Quinn from calling you."
Elizabeth thought, 'You confiscated his phone, and you still have the nerve to say that.'
She had originally thought Jesse treated Quinn badly because he wasn't his biological son. But she hadn't expected William, knowing Quinn was his brother, to still keep him under house arrest.
He clearly saw Quinn as a pawn to control Michael.
