Chapter 102 Who Bought The Jones Group Building Four Years Ago?
"Jealous much? You wanna be some old guy's sugar baby, but no one's biting," one staffer chuckled.
"Man, that old dude hit the jackpot! Look at her, she's drop-dead gorgeous and classy!" the first staffer replied.
Over at Elizabeth's villa, Nancy said, "Elizabeth, don't kill yourself trying to clean everything at once. Take a break with the kids, and I'll handle the cooking."
Elizabeth smiled, "It's fine, Mom. I got plenty of sleep last night. If we get this done now, we'll be more comfortable later."
Just then, her phone rang. It was Louis.
Elizabeth stood up and told Nancy, "Mom, I need to take this."
Louis was an assistant in Ms. Johnson's lab. Back when Elizabeth was working in Ms. Johnson's lab, Louis always looked out for her.
Elizabeth answered, "Hey, Louis."
Louis's voice was full of concern, "Elizabeth, have you settled in? Got a place to stay?"
"Thanks for asking. Yeah, we found a house and moved in. When are you coming back? We should catch up," Elizabeth said.
Louis replied, "It'll be a while. I called because there's something important you need to know."
Elizabeth's face grew serious. "What's up, Louis? Is it about Ms. Johnson?"
"Yeah. Michael's been in touch with the lab. He's looking for someone, a student of Ms. Johnson," Louis explained.
"Who?" Elizabeth asked with confusion.
"I think it's you," Louis said.
"Why do you think that?" Elizabeth pressed.
"Before Ms. Johnson passed, her last call was to Michael. She told him she couldn't finish the task he gave her but recommended one of her students. She didn't get to say who before she died. Now Michael's trying to get a list of her students. I didn't put your name on it because I know you two don't get along. If he finds out later, it's on him. He asked for a list of students who are now top neurologists in hospitals. Since you don't work in a hospital, you're not on that list. It's his mistake, not ours."
Elizabeth let out a sigh of relief. "Thanks, Louis."
"Just be careful. You and Michael are in the same city now, so there's a higher chance you'll run into each other. I gotta go; it's crazy busy here," Louis said.
"Okay. Take care, Louis," Elizabeth replied.
After hanging up, Elizabeth went upstairs to check on the kids. Nolan was quietly staring out the window. Pearl was playing with her Barbie dolls on the carpet.
Elizabeth walked over to Nolan and gently stroked his hair, sighing inwardly. She couldn't let Nolan hear it.
Elizabeth watched Nolan. Since he was born, he was different from other kids. He didn't like interacting with others, let alone starting conversations.
Elizabeth had him thoroughly checked out, and there was nothing physically wrong with him. His cerebral cortex was even more developed than that of his peers and some adults.
Pearl, his twin, was the opposite. She was cute and talkative, though she didn't like strangers.
Both kids were four years old, school age. But back abroad, only Pearl could attend kindergarten.
Elizabeth had tried many schools for Nolan, but he couldn't adapt. He didn't like the kindergarten environment, the teachers, or the noisy kids. Elizabeth had to bring him home.
Now back in the country, she still needed to find a school for both of them.
The next day, after the breakfast, Elizabeth said to Nancy, "Mom, stay home with Nolan. I'm taking Pearl out to visit the school."
Nancy replied, "Okay."
Elizabeth took Pearl to the kindergarten in Whispering Pines Estates. The kindergarten in Whispering Pines Estates was private, with luxurious facilities, even a small playground.
The principal saw Pearl and liked her immediately. She squatted down and asked, "Would this lovely little princess like to attend our kindergarten?"
Pearl stared intently at the small playground, excitedly tugging on Elizabeth's sleeve. Elizabeth immediately crouched down. "Pearl? Do you like it here?"
Pearl replied, "Yes, Mommy. I want to go to kindergarten here. Look at the little playground over there. Can Nolan come too? If we can go to school together, I would be very happy."
Elizabeth looked at Pearl, holding her hand gently. "Pearl, Nolan is different from you. He can't go to this kindergarten. I'll take him to another school. When he's ready, I'll bring him back to be with you every day. Okay?"
Pearl replied sensibly, "Okay, Mom. I understand."
The principal said, "Pearl can go home and rest today. She can officially start tomorrow morning."
Elizabeth took Pearl back to the villa. Pearl immediately ran to Nolan's room to play with him, while Elizabeth went upstairs to the study and turned on the computer. She needed to find out who bought the Jones Group building four years ago and contact her lawyer to confirm if the divorce had been finalized. She didn't want to have any more dealings with Michael.
Pearl entered the room and saw Nolan still in front of the computer. She sat next to him and sweetly asked, "Nolan, did you find out who our dad is?"
Nolan, staring at the computer screen, said, "Yes, I did. His name is Anthony."
Nolan was a computer hacker. He had hacked into the hospital's patient record system and found Elizabeth's obstetric records from four and a half years ago. In the "Father" column, it clearly stated "Anthony."
Pearl asked, "Nolan, can you find his picture?"
"Yes." Nolan typed a few keys. A photo of a young man appeared on the screen.
Nolan turned the screen towards Pearl.
Pearl looked at Anthony's photo and whispered, "Is this our dad? He looks really handsome."
Nolan snorted coldly, "What's the use of being handsome? Besides, how is he handsome? He's just a bad man."
Pearl then asked, "Bad man? Really? Nolan, are we going to find our dad?"
Nolan thought for a while and then replied, "Not yet. I'll let you know when it's time."
Pearl immediately hugged Nolan's arm. "Okay, Nolan, I'll listen to you."
