Chapter 140 They Were Together All Night

Elizabeth brought the hot milk over to Sarah and slid the plate of tomato hash browns in front of her. "Sarah, eat up first."

Sarah didn't hesitate. She forked a piece of hash brown, popped it into her mouth, and chewed with gusto. "Nancy's cooking is still top-notch," she said, satisfied.

While munching, she shot a look at Elizabeth. "Don't dodge the question. You haven't answered me yet."

Elizabeth sighed. "He's my business partner. A good friend in life."

Sarah leaned in, eyes twinkling. "What kind of good friend? The kind you can sleep with?"

Elizabeth rubbed her forehead. "We didn't sleep together. It's not like that."

Sarah looked a bit let down. "I thought you had moved on—Michael found a girlfriend, so you find a boyfriend! But it didn't turn out that way. Can't you just do that?"

Elizabeth shook her head with a smile. "I can't. But Michael was indeed quite angry."

Sarah turned, surprised. "Michael met him?"

Elizabeth nodded. "Yeah. Yesterday at the office. Michael stormed out, fuming."

Sarah grinned. "Serves him right!"

After breakfast, Elizabeth had to head to work, and Sarah left. On her way, she sent a voice message to David. "David, guess who I just saw?"

"Who? So early in the morning, it must be someone you really care about," David's tone was a bit jealous.

Sarah chuckled. "I went to see Elizabeth. And guess what? A handsome guy is staying at her place. Didn't expect her to move on so fast."

"Didn't she just divorce Michael?" David sounded surprised.

"Exactly! That's why I'm so shocked. I wonder how Michael's gonna react when he hears this," Sarah said mischievously.

David replied, "Sarah, I'll make sure he finds out. Just wait."

"Love you," Sarah said, feeling understood by David.

David checked the time and immediately called Michael. "Michael, are you at work? Sarah just left Elizabeth's place."

"And?" Michael's attention sharpened at the mention of Elizabeth.

David continued, "Sarah said there's a handsome guy staying at Elizabeth's place. Think about it, Michael, early in the morning, at seven o'clock, that guy was there. What does that tell you? They were together all night!"

Michael hadn't expected that Dean, the guy he met at Elizabeth's office, was her boyfriend. His heart sank at the thought of them living together. Years of distance hadn't prepared him for this. Elizabeth's new openness rattled him. He was furious.

Suppressing his anger, he tried to stay calm. "David, have you been too idle lately? Should I talk to your dad about giving you more work?"

David quickly backtracked. "Alright, no more gossip. I'll get to work right away."

But David loved gossiping. As soon as he hung up, he called Matthew.

When Matthew heard Elizabeth had a new boyfriend and they were living together, he clapped his hands in approval. He couldn't stand seeing Michael happy lately.

Who would've thought his longtime friend was capable of such betrayal? A bad guy with a hidden agenda, he cheated and then forced Elizabeth to divorce for his lover. Yet, in front of everyone, Michael still played the role of a devoted man.

Their group of friends, who didn't know the real story, felt sorry for Michael. But for Matthew, Michael's image had completely shattered. The angrier Michael got, the happier Matthew felt.

Over at Global Horizons International School, Nolan was in his usual spot, glued to his computer. He'd already sent Anthony's hair, along with his and Pearl's, to the lab for a paternity test.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Nolan didn't even flinch, just kept typing away.

The knocking persisted. One of the teachers finally got up and opened the door to find Eloise standing there.

"Eloise? Do you need something?" the teacher asked.

Eloise nodded and pointed straight at Nolan, who was in the middle of the room. Her health had improved, and Michael had arranged for a driver to take her to school. Today was her first day back after surgery, and she wanted to find Nolan.

She didn't know his name or which classroom he was in, so she searched the entire school. Finally, she spotted his baseball cap and computer through a window.

Eloise remembered how Nolan had used that laptop to help her leave the school that day. She walked up to him. "You."

Nolan stood up, indifferently, "I don't know you. Go away!"

Eloise's eyes welled up with tears. Why was he acting so differently? Just the other day, they had gotten along so well.

The teacher at the podium noticed the exchange and walked over. "Nolan, do you know her?"

Nolan said firmly, "No!"

Eloise said at the same time, "Yes!"

The teachers exchanged puzzled looks. Nolan then said, "Come with me."

Eloise followed him out of the classroom, leaving the teachers in shock. Nolan rarely spoke to anyone, and Eloise never approached strangers. What was going on?

Nolan led Eloise to a secluded corner. He turned to her, his voice cold. "Don't come looking for me again. I don't want to see you. I won't help you anymore. From now on, pretend we don't know each other."

Eloise's eyes filled with tears again. "Why? What did I do wrong? You weren't like this before."

Nolan snapped, "Before, I didn't know what kind of person you were. Now I do. I won't help a bad person who makes my mom sad."

Eloise started crying. "Why do you think I'm a bad person? I didn't do anything wrong."

Nolan ignored her and walked away, leaving Eloise alone and crying in the corner.

At Global Horizons International School, she had finally found a friend. Nolan gave her a sense of family, making her think of him often. But now, he was calling her a bad person.

Eloise felt a deep, unexplainable sadness and cried loudly. Her caretaker found her and tried to comfort her, but Eloise couldn't say a word.

Helpless, the caretaker called Michael. "Mr. Thomas, Ms. Thomas is very upset and crying."

Michael asked nervously, "What happened? Who did she see today?"

The caretaker replied, "She's been wandering around the school grounds. I think she was looking for someone."
