Chapter 125 She Must Never Find Out
After ending the call with Michael, she had already anticipated the questions he would ask.
She was ready with the answers.
Right then, Calla stood up and said, "Mr. Thomas, when I got the call from the hospital, I rushed over immediately. The situation was too urgent to think of notifying you. The director at Harmony Health Hospital knows me and my skills in cranial surgery, so he called me right away, hoping I could operate on Eloise ASAP to reduce the risk."
Michael stared intently at Eloise's sleeping face.
"How did she end up at the hospital?"
Calla took a deep breath and said, "I heard Eloise fainted outside, and someone called 911. She was taken to the emergency center at Harmony Health Hospital. The attending doctor saw her condition was serious and told the director, who then called me. That's the story. Any other questions, Mr. Thomas?"
Michael turned to Calla and apologized sincerely, "I'm sorry, Dr. Griffin. I didn't mean to doubt you. I was just too emotional upon hearing about Eloise. Thank you so much for doing the surgery. When she wakes up, I'll make sure she thanks you."
Calla nodded and replied, "Mr. Thomas, no need to be so formal. I was just doing my job. Performing surgery on Ms. Thomas is part of my duty."
Michael still thought he was a bit too emotional as he added, "Your dedication is admirable, but to me, it's a huge favor. Dr. Griffin, thank you again."
Calla walked over to Michael, "Mr. Thomas, there's something you need to do right away."
Michael looked at her, puzzled.
Calla said, "Mr. Thomas, even though the director here knows me, I have to say the medical standards and facilities at this hospital are pretty average. We had to do the surgery here because it was urgent and close by. Now that it's done, I suggest transferring Ms. Thomas to a better-equipped hospital as soon as possible. I'll go with you to make sure she's safe."
Michael agreed with Calla's suggestion.
He immediately called his team to arrange Eloise's transfer.
Michael sat by Eloise's bed, holding her hand.
He gently stroked her hand, feeling the warmth.
Eloise was finally back with him. His anxious heart over the past few days could finally rest.
Thank goodness he didn't lose Eloise.
Otherwise, he wouldn't have forgiven himself.
Michael saw that Eloise was stable after the transfer.
He stepped out of the ward and called Daniel, "Check the call records from Harmony Health Hospital's emergency center for the past 24 hours."
"Look into each one and find out who called the emergency center for Eloise. I want to thank this person properly," Michael instructed.
After a while, Michael's phone rang.
"Mr. Thomas, we checked all the calls, and none of them are related to Ms. Thomas."
Michael frowned, feeling something was off.
Didn't Calla say Eloise fainted on the roadside and was taken to Harmony Health Hospital by a good Samaritan who called 911?
So, who was lying?
Was it Calla? Or the hospital director?
Did the good Samaritan not know about the huge reward posted online? Or did they just not want to come forward?
A reward of 500 million dollars, and this person didn't care?
Was there really someone in the world who didn't love money and only did good deeds?
Michael didn't buy it. People were greedy by nature. No one would leave that kind of money on the table.
He kept making calls.
"Get me the surveillance footage from the emergency center entrance at Harmony Health Hospital for the whole day." Michael ordered, "Cancel the high reward posted online. Delete all related web pages, topics, and posts. Especially any photos and topics about Eloise, wipe them all out."
Michael didn't want anyone talking about Eloise behind his back.
Now that Eloise was found, there was no need for the missing person notice.
If someone wanted to claim the reward, they would've already noted the contact number.
Elizabeth got home, washed up quickly, and crashed into bed.
Nancy and the kids knew she was wiped out, so they kept things quiet, trying not to disturb her.
Elizabeth slept for ages.
She totally forgot about her dinner plans with Sarah.
Sarah waited for her at the restaurant for a long time but didn't see her. So she called.
Elizabeth was half-asleep when she heard the phone ring, not even checking who it was.
"Hello!"
Sarah's voice came through loud and clear, "Elizabeth! Don't tell me you stood me up again! We had dinner plans tonight, remember? You said you were gonna treat me to something special to celebrate you becoming a big boss! I've been here for over an hour, where are you? Are you messing with me? Hurry up! You have one hour to get here!"
Hearing Sarah's voice, Elizabeth immediately opened her eyes. She remembered she had made plans with Sarah, either yesterday or the day before, to treat her to dinner tonight. They even booked the restaurant.
She had performed surgery on Eloise and was so tired she forgot about it.
Elizabeth rubbed her eyes, yawning, "Sarah, what time is it now?"
Sarah couldn't believe it when she heard Elizabeth's sleepy voice, "Elizabeth, are you serious? You're sleeping at this hour? What have you done to get so tired? Don't tell me you were fooling around with a guy! I haven't even had a chance to celebrate your newfound freedom!"
Elizabeth couldn't help but laugh at Sarah's cheeky remarks.
"No, what are you thinking? I just stayed up too late last night. I was catching up on sleep today. I was really tired and forgot about it."
Sarah immediately understood and said, "Since you sound so tired, don't come over. Stay at home and wait for me. I'll bring the food to your place. We'll have dinner together. I'll be there soon, wait for me."
Elizabeth was about to agree in her drowsy state.
Her eyes suddenly widened, and she snapped awake.
'No, I can't let Sarah come to my house. I absolutely can't let her find out about the kids.'
