Chapter 187 She's Pregnant
The servant came to get Calla for dinner.
Calla replied, clearly annoyed. "I'm not hungry; I don't want to eat right now."
But then, something clicked. She sat up in bed, suddenly breaking out in a cold sweat. Normally, she had a good appetite, so why was she losing it now?
She thought back over the past few days. Her appetite had been off. Food didn't appeal to her, and she felt full after just a few bites. Even the smell of cooking made her feel nauseous.
She grabbed her phone and checked her health app to see when her last period was. To her horror, it had been over forty days.
This was a huge shock.
Over at Whispering Pines Estates, Elizabeth hung up the phone and stared at her reflection in the mirror.
What was wrong with her? She had divorced Michael a long time ago. They had agreed to move on and have nothing to do with each other.
She was just his ex-wife.
It was her birthday, and Michael, being the wealthy ex-husband he was, had given her diamonds. And she was moved by it?
She looked at herself in the mirror, looking infatuated, and shook her head vigorously. She couldn't fall into his trap again. He had a girlfriend now. If she kept getting involved with him, she'd be a laughingstock.
She drew the curtains and lay on the bed, her mind racing. Could she really forget him completely? Probably not. But even if she thought about him, he might be thinking about her too. So what? She wasn't the only woman in his life. There was Calla and Eloise too.
As for Elizabeth, who knew how much space she occupied in Michael's heart? No one knew that. But in the hearts of her family and Dean, she was sure she was the most important. That was enough; she was happy.
Thinking about this, Elizabeth fell asleep.
At Moonlit Grove, Calla quickly changed her clothes, ran out of the room, changed her shoes, grabbed her bag, and walked out of the villa gate. She was in a hurry.
The bodyguard at the door saw her leaving and caught up to her. "Dr. Griffin, don't you need me to come with you?"
Calla didn't stop and prevented the bodyguard from following her.
She hailed a cab and went to a pharmacy far from the villa, asking the clerk for several types of early pregnancy test strips.
After paying, she took the bag and walked into a restroom. She tried each test strip. Every single one showed a positive result.
She walked out of the restroom in a daze and sat on a bench by the roadside, quietly thinking about what to do next.
Carla never thought she would get pregnant. She frequently underwent health check-ups at the hospital where she worked, and the results always indicated hormonal imbalances. The gynecologist had told her that her endocrine disorder would make it difficult for her to conceive.
Busy with her research and career, Carla had never taken the time to focus on her health, thinking she would address it when she started dating and got married. She never expected that this time, she would get pregnant so easily.
If Michael found out, the consequences would be unimaginable.
After all, she and Michael had never been intimate.
She always thought getting pregnant was unlikely. Who would've guessed that a one-night stand with Anthony would lead to this mess?
Should she be impressed by Anthony or just consider herself unlucky?
She sat on the bench, hugging her knees, curling up.
This baby was not part of the plan.
Her original goal was to marry Michael and climb the social ladder.
Now, this unexpected pregnancy was a major roadblock.
She had two choices: get rid of it or find a way to use it to her advantage.
Calla called Anthony. "Where are you?"
Anthony answered lazily, "At home."
Calla said seriously, "Come out; I'll send you the address."
"What's going on? Did my uncle find out?" Anthony's face turned pale.
Calla rolled her eyes. "Can you grow a spine? He doesn't know yet. Get out here now! We'll meet at the entrance of the third ride inside."
"Okay. As long as Michael doesn't know. I'm leaving now." Anthony hurried out.
Upon arriving, he asked Calla, "Why meet at an amusement park? It's noisy everywhere."
Calla told him, "Because Michael can go to malls, restaurants, cafes, and hotels, but he would never come to an amusement park."
Anthony praised her, "You're so smart."
Calla's face was serious as she looked at Anthony, "I'm pregnant."
Anthony was shocked. He opened his mouth wide. "How is that possible?! We only did it once, and it worked? I didn't expect you to get pregnant so easily."
Calla squinted her eyes and said, "Anthony, you seem very pleased. Gloating? Do you think you're impressive? Don't forget; you're involved in this too. If Michael finds out, do you think he'll let you off?"
Anthony gently tugged Calla's sleeve. "I'm just surprised, not pleased. Now, you and I are connected; if one of us gets in trouble, the other can't escape."
Calla glared at him. "Glad you understand!"
Anthony asked with unease, "So what do you plan to do next?"
Calla sat down on a bench at the entrance. "What do you think? My mind is a mess right now. That's why I called you to discuss a plan."
Anthony said matter-of-factly, "Isn't it obvious? Just get an abortion. If you keep it, it'll be a ticking time bomb."
Calla said distressingly, "Of course, I know it. But during my previous health check-ups, the doctor mentioned that I have a condition that makes it difficult for me to conceive."
Anthony didn't expect things to be so complicated.
He paced back and forth, anxiously pulling at his hair. "What should we do? If my uncle finds out that the child in your belly is mine, he'll kill me! I can't take that responsibility!"
Calla didn't believe him. "Is he really that violent?"
Anthony stopped pacing. "You haven't experienced his brutal methods! He's scarier than you think! Anyway, I've been living under his shadow ever since I was a child. In this world, I've only seen him be gentle to two people."
Calla was curious. "Who?"
Anthony replied, "My grandmother and Eloise."
Calla was surprised; she thought Elizabeth was also special to Michael.
Was she mistaken?
