Chapter 262 The Murderer
Elizabeth held up her phone and said, "Michael, I get it, you just lost your mom, so I'm not gonna fight with you about your attitude. But when your child died, you didn't investigate the truth; you just blamed me. Now your mom's gone, and you blame me again. What, is just being alive a crime for me? Can you at least check the facts before you start pointing fingers?"
Michael's eyes were bloodshot; he wasn't hearing a word she said.
He told the bodyguard, "Go to the Jones Group and bring Elizabeth here."
Elizabeth heard this and said, "No need, I'll come myself."
Before hanging up, she couldn't resist mocking him. "Michael, how did you get rich? Pure luck? 'Cause it's not like you have any brains."
She then hung up, grabbed her coat, and headed out.
Michael put down his phone and said to William, "Get someone to do an autopsy. I need to know what really happened to Mom."
William nodded and hurried down the hallway to contact the medical examiner. As he glanced towards the stairwell, he saw Anthony and Calla standing there.
He frowned, feeling a weird sense of unease.
Lately, things between Anthony and Calla seemed off.
Slowing his pace, he quietly moved to the side.
In the stairwell, Calla looked at Anthony. He turned his head away, avoiding her gaze.
Calla said, "Anthony, what are you saying? Are you planning to cut me off completely? Never see me again?"
William, standing by the wall, heard this and frowned even more.
So, they really did have some dirty secret.
Anthony's voice sounded sad. "Calla, I told you before, you're too manipulative. I admit I was into you. But now, Grandma's dead. I can't forgive myself!"
Hearing this, William covered his mouth in shock. He thought, 'What does Anthony mean by this? Was Mom's death really not an accident?'
Calla's voice came. "You can't just dump me! Otherwise, I'll tell Michael that Mary didn't fall down the stairs by herself. You pushed her!"
William's eyes widened in horror.
Anthony's voice became panicked, "Calla! You evil woman! If you hadn't played the victim in front of me, making me grab the paternity test from her, I wouldn't have accidentally pushed her! I'm guilty! But you're even more guilty! You heartless woman!"
Calla said, "If you hadn't pushed her, would you have let her see me coming out of your room all messed up? And then let her tell Michael? We'd still be screwed!"
Before Anthony could respond, William couldn't take it anymore and stepped out. He rushed forward, angrily slapped Calla, and yelled at her, "You wicked woman! So it was you who caused my mom's death!"
Caught off guard, Calla took the slap. She covered half her face, looking up at William with cold eyes.
Seeing this, Anthony immediately hugged William's leg, crying, "Dad, please don't tell Michael! He'll kill me!"
William pushed Anthony away forcefully. His hands trembled as he pointed at Calla and Anthony, his lips quivering. "I never thought you two could be so shameless, doing such disgraceful things right under our noses!"
William swayed as his head buzzed. He quickly steadied himself against the wall, then closed his eyes and roared, "And Anthony, you killed your grandma! Get out! Never come back!"
Hearing this, Anthony scrambled away.
William didn't chase after him. He knew that if Michael found out the truth, he really would kill Anthony.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth arrived at Tomorrow's Cure Hospital.
As soon as the familiar Range Rover appeared at the hospital entrance, Michael's bodyguard immediately notified Michael.
Elizabeth had just parked her car and opened the door when Michael grabbed her.
Without a word, he dragged her to his car, shoved her into the passenger seat, and climbed in behind the wheel.
Turning the steering wheel sharply, he stepped on the gas, and the car roared out of the parking lot. The Rolls-Royce sped down the road, heading toward the outskirts of the city.
Elizabeth clutched her seatbelt tightly, extremely nervous. 'Has Michael gone mad? Driving so fast without saying a word?' she thought.
The car stopped at the foot of the mountain.
Elizabeth finally breathed a sigh of relief. She unbuckled her seatbelt and opened the door to get out.
As soon as her feet touched the ground, she collapsed, her legs too weak to support her.
Michael stood in front of her and roughly pulled her up.
Elizabeth shouted, "It hurts! Let go!"
Michael ignored her pleas. He glared at her, as if he could swallow her whole.
In a cold voice, he said, "Alright, there's no one else here now. Elizabeth, you can tell me exactly what my mom said to you during that phone call."
Elizabeth said helplessly, "I can't tell you."
Hearing this, Michael tightened his grip. Elizabeth felt like her arm was going to break.
Angrily, she exclaimed, "Michael! It was just a phone call! I've already told you, the content had nothing to do with Mary's death! This matter involves my privacy, and I have no obligation to tell you!"
She then closed her mouth and refused to say another word.
Michael stared at her for a while. His chest heaved, and his fists clenched tightly.
Struggling to suppress the urge to strangle her, he shoved her back into the car. The Rolls-Royce roared to life again, heading up the mountain.
Elizabeth looked out the window. It seemed he was taking her to the mountain estate again.
Sure enough, Michael stopped the car at the estate entrance, where two servants opened the car door.
He turned and instructed, "Take her to the guest room, keep a close watch, and don't let her leave." The servants then grabbed Elizabeth and unceremoniously took her away.
However, Michael got back in the car and drove away from the estate. He needed to return to the hospital to see Mary's autopsy report as soon as possible.
Inside the estate, Elizabeth was roughly pushed into the guest room. The door was immediately locked.
She knew shouting was useless, so she sat down and carefully examined her surroundings.
She took out her phone to call Dean, only to find there was no signal. No wonder Michael didn't take her phone. He knew that once she was inside, she couldn't call for help, so he felt secure leaving her.
Elizabeth sat on the bed, trying to calm down.
She recalled the phone call with Mary. At the end of the call, there were the faint voices of a man and a woman.
At that time, Mary seemed to ask, "What are you doing here?"
She definitely wasn't talking to Elizabeth.
So, who was she asking?
